DollarAndADream 3,356 Posted January 31, 2015 Share Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) D - Slaeter Fjorsstrom - 1st Overall -------------------- -------------------- As the 1st overall pick in the Season 37 VHL Entry Draft, Slaetor Fjorsstrom had pressure on him as soon as he set foot on the ice as a rookie. Fjorsstrom broke onto the scene as a rookie with 72 points in 72 games, becoming a European Conference All-Star in his first season. Slaeter was just the defensive quarterback that the Riga Reign were asking for when they drafted him, and has bolstered their blue line while not seeming to slow down season by season. He has remained consistent in all stat categories and holds the fort down in Riga with ease. The Riga Reign then went on to win the Continental Cup in Season 40, giving Slaetor Fjorsstrom his first taste of VHL glory. With 360 games played in the VHL, he has scored 365 points while coming close to the 20 goal mark this season with 18. Fjorsstrom’s Riga team look to repeat last year, as they face off once again against the New York Americans in the finals. C - Tom Slaughter - 3rd Overall -------------------------- -------------------------- Tom Slaughter is far and away the most committed player to come out of the Season 37 Draft. He was picked 3rd overall by the New York Americans. It’s simple to say, that with so many practice minutes, Slaughter is the best centerman and player out of this draft. Carrying plenty of hardware under his belt, this man was a two-time Founder’s Cup Champion at the VHLM level, and stepped into the VHL winning the Rookie of the Year trophy with 76 points in 72 games in Season 37. Slaughter is a two-time All-Star as well from both Season 38 and 39. To go along with the All-Star accolades, his New York Americans team were also the owners of the Victory Cup in those same 2 seasons having the league’s best record. Tom Slaughter then went on to win the Continental Cup as an American in Season 39. In that same season, he took home the Mikka Virkkunen as the Most Sportsmanlike Player. Slaughter has remained consistent with 488 points in 360 career games, with this past season scoring 122 points being his best yet. Easily one of, if not the best players in the VHL today, the sky seems to be the limit for him. LW - Logan Laich - 4th Overall ---------------------- ----------------------- Going 4th overall in the Season 37 VHL Entry Draft, left winger Logan Laich had a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Coming into the VHL as a rookie with the Americans in Season 37 he was placed on a skilled New York squad with fellow rookie sensation Tom Slaughter. Laich only managed to score a miniscule amount of 12 points in 72 games for a disappointing rookie season. He did manage to be on the Americans squad that won the Victory Cup though, nonetheless. In his second VHL season, he put up yet another upsetting effort with 20 points in 72 games, although with a positive plus/minus rating. Logan Laich was then traded to the Cologne Express and things started to take a turn. With all of the skill he possesses as a two-way power forward, he came onto the Express team with a strong season scoring 69 points in 72 games, with 39 of those being goals. Although, since hitting that 69 point mark in S39, he has remained a 60 point player with 60 in S40 and 63 in S41. Laich’s Express team was recently outed in the 1st Round by the Helsinki Titans in just 5 games. While he has the assets to produce even better, it remains a question of whether he can raise his game to another level. C - Travis Boychuk - 8th Overall ------------------------ ------------------------ Coming into the draft fairly unknown, Boychuk managed to sink into the 8th overall spot on the draft board to the Calgary Wranglers. Boychuk’s career in the VHLM was played in the shadow of future superstars, but he caught the eye of some GM’s in the VHL with his consistency as a practitioner. Breaking into the VHL as a rookie in Season 38, he scored 103 points in 69 games handing him the trophy for Rookie of the Year. Travis Boychuk is a S38 and S39 North American All-Star, impressively as a rookie and a sophomore of VHL action. This young centerman hit a decline in production throughout Season 40, though his Wrangler squad upset the Quebec City Meute in the playoffs of that season making headlines. Boychuk was then dealt that off-season to the same team they beat, being the Meute. As a member of the Meute in Season 41, Boychuk rose back to elite status posting 103 points in 72 games behind even better seasons by Aksel Thomassen and Bruno Wolf. The Meute had to face-off once again versus Calgary, but this time pulled away in 5 games before being taken out in 5 games by a strong New York Americans squad looking to regain the championship. The rest of his career will be aimed at the Continental Cup. FYI, I'll probably do more of this in another media spot. There's more skill out of that draft class but I didn't want to make this too lengthy. Grammar: 2/2 - Just nitpicking here. There's a lot times where you said got drafted 1st or 3rd I find that it should be written out as first or third. Appearance: 1/1 - It was great.
