    S62 Award Committee + All-VHL Teams

S62 Award Committeee As I mentioned 2 seasons ago when we announced the inaugural Award Committee, members are only eligible to serve 3 consecutive seasons and General Manager's aren't eligible to serve on the Committee. As such, we have a few rotations to make this season - the remaining members from the original committee will be rotated after this season when their eligibility expires. I hope everyone agrees that the first Award Committee has done a terrific job the past 2 seasons, all the members have been active with participating in the Awards discussion and voting, and I can tell you from looking over the discussion that they've done a great job of keeping the discussions thoughtful and thorough. So I'd like to thank the 4 members that will be leaving the committee this season for all their hard work and a job well done: @Quik, @Spade18, @tfong, @der meister. Now, your Season 62 Award Committee will be: @diamond_ace (Chairman) @Tagger @Smarch @CowboyinAmerica @omgitshim* @Devise* @Victor* @.sniffuM* * New Addition All VHL/VHLM Teams For the first time ever, this season we will be naming All-VHL & VHLM Teams. This will be more clear for anyone familiar with the NHL All-Star Team, but if not, note that this is different from the All-Star Game - the All-VHL Teams are more 'team of the season' and, while there is no actual sim attached to this, there will be TPE Awarded to each player selected and the All-Star Teams will be tracked in the HOF each season. In effect, the All-Star Team is intended to be sort of a supplemental award to give added recognition to players, particularly to Defensemen and Goalies whose true awards are rather limited. How it will work The Award Committee will vote each season, naming VHL Players to the following teams: All VHL 1st Team = 2 TPE Uncapped (LW/C/RW/D/D/G) All VHL 2nd Team = 1 TPE Uncapped (LW/C/RW/D/D/G) All VHL Rookie Team = 1 TPE Uncapped (LW/C/RW/D/D/G) Players will who make each team will receive the corresponding Uncapped TPE and, in time, will have their spot on the All-Star Team preserved in the Portal's Hall of Fame and on their player page. VHLM VHLM will also get two Teams that work in the same way: All VHLM 1st Team = 2 TPE Uncapped (LW/C/RW/D/D/G) All VHLM 2nd Team = 1 TPE Uncapped (LW/C/RW/D/D/G) However, these teams won't be decided by the Award Committee. They will be voted on either by VHLM GM's or named by the VHLM Commissioner's. TBD.

    VHL Trades Analysis

(This was requested by the amazing, @Beaviss) There always a lot of trades in the NHL, but there are also a lot of trades in the VHL! I'm going to analyze 2 pretty recent trades to see who came out on top! TRADE No. 1 (The New York Americans traded Casey Jones to the Quebec City Meute for Bryce Zhields and Roctrion King.) Quebec City picked up a player who has showed that he is elite throughout his entire career. Quebec City gave away two younger players to go all out so they have better chance of winning the Cup. The New York Americans are second to last in the standings and are currently rebuilding. In the trade, the New York Americans received two young players in Roctrion King and Bryce Zhields. Who won trade No. 1? I personally think that the NYA came out on top. Casey Jones is in his last year which really hinders the Quebec City Meute. The NYA got two really good young players that will both make a big impact. The trade is only worth it for the Quebec City Meute if they win the Cup. Expectations are super high for the Quebec City Meute now. This trade was somewhat related to the VHLM Halifax trade where GM Shawn traded a ton of picks for two people who are going to the VHL next season. TRADE No. 2 (The Helsinki Titans traded Jack Shephard to the Seattle Bears for a S63 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick. The Titans also received an additional 3rd round pick for the S64 draft) The Helsinki Titans traded away Jack Shephard who is currently in his last year in the VHL. Seattle got a few picks in the trade. The Seattle Bears aren't even up there to be Cup contenders. Helsinki is currently re-building so the picks really help them. Who won trade No. 2? I personally think that Helsinki won the trade. Seattle is nowhere near to be considered a Cup conteder in the VHL. They shouldn't have traded away those picks as those picks could have been beneficial to them.

Rylan Peace - Rookie Profile [1/2]

Rylan Peace | #36 RW | 6'1'' | 212 lbs | Age: 18 | FREE AGENT Rylan Peace Born: September 6th Birthplace: Cardston, AB, CAN Shots: Right Draft: Undrafted prospect Junior Career [S59 - Cardston Steelheads (AA)] || 60 GP // 45 G // 28 A // 73 P // +24 || [S60 - Cardston Steelheads (AA)] || 55 GP // 49 G // 30 A // 79 P // +29 || [S61 - Lethbridge Hurricanes (CHL)] || 68 GP // 25 G // 20 A // 45 P // +01 || [S62 - Lethbridge Hurricanes (CHL)] || 72 GP // 37 G // 29 A // 66 P // +11 || CARDSTON, ALBERTA --- The lights of the Enmax Arena have long shut down, but yet their shining young star still brightly lights up the moderate sized city of Lethbridge, Alberta; Rylan Peace - now eighteen and a free agent of the Victory Hockey League - was never truly able to lift the Cardston Steelheads or the Lethbridge Hurricanes into the next realm, but the young adult was able to give a small town something to cheer and hope for in the future - a future of, just maybe, the crowned achievement making its way down main street in the next decade; Lethbridge on the other hand would be satisfactory to have a great alumni player to add to their growing list. Rylan Peace has a magnitude of tools in his handy-dandy utility belt, but let's be real - he won't be a batman of the VHL anytime soon - but he could be the super hero a struggling team needs, a person to inject hope and inspiration into the club's identity. His most prolific tool is his deadly shot, which some would compare to highly accomplished players even at his young age. Rylan Peace accomplished what many thought was impossible with the ever struggling Cardston Steelhead AA high school team, he showed that his near legendary work ethic and unfaltering determination was more than enough to carry a smaller less talented team into the playoffs not once, but twice, even if they were eliminated in the first round in their back to back appearances. Rylan was also modestly successful at a higher level of competition in the CHL, becoming an asset for the Lethbridge Hurricanes while they pushed for a Memorial Cup, although both attempts were in vein as the club never progressed beyond the conference finals. Having success in two entirely different competition levels means that Rylan Peace has the tools to adapt to scenarios, learn the flow of the game and make it work for the type of player he is. Rylan also thrives in the twilight zone between heavy spotlight exposure... and the blank articles fourth-line grinders rarely gets, which just happens to be about as dark as a moonless light in the middle of a forest; however, like many youngsters, Rylan struggles when expectations are set to high for him to accomplish - but perhaps his most respected attribute is his sportsmanship. Overall, the young prospect just might make a good first line player in the VHL, but for now he's just an extra ordinary young man anyone can approach and get a laugh from. STRENGTHS SHOT: Rylan's shot - as mentioned above - is absolutely deadly. You couple his shot speed and accuracy with his quick, clean releases from in tight and as far out as the faceoff hashes in the attacking zone, you're going to get a high scoring individual. If you're able to put the puck on his stick, he'll more than likely get a good shot on goal faster than a defender can react. STRENGTH: Rylan is fairly strong for his size and age. He is able to hold people along the boards - which in turn allows him to battle for the puck along the boards if he wasn't the one who initiated board play - on top of having the strength to compete in a mans game, although the young man still needs to bulk up in places to be more competitive in the future. PERSONALITY: Rylan has a 'never give up' attitude and a strong work ethic that has a tendency to slowly radiate around him. He's one of those players who will be on the ice until management tells him to get off, he's one of those players who will take three hundred shots at an open net aiming for a tooth picks hanging down from the netting just to improve his accuracy. What ever the task, Rylan will try his best to achieve success in it. WEAKNESSES: SKATING: Rylan is - unfortunately - a little underwhelming with his skating ability. Becoming faster and more agile on the ice should be Rylan's highest priority this offseason, especially once teams start showing an interest in the young draft-eligible prospect. Although Rylan isn't fundamentally fast, he is still a physically strong skater and doesn't get knocked around easy. PASSING: Rylan isn't a play maker by any sense of the means - his offensive tools rely on his accurate shots - but he certainly needs to improve his passing skills in order to compete in the VHL beyond bottom six roles. While Rylan isn't the worst passer out there, he'll struggle on stretch passes and collecting flip passes on the rush. If he focuses on Improving his passing abilities and hand eye coordination in relation to passes in the air, he can become a far more effective player. CHECKING: Rylan needs to utilize his large frame and VHL ready weight before he can truly elevate to the next level in the VHL. Although he isn't afraid of taking a hit, the youngster rarely - if ever - throws a check of his own despite his relatively modest size and good strength. When Rylan does throw a hit, he struggles finishing his checks which can (and has) resulted in the opposing player gaining the advantage on Rylan both offensively and defensively due to his poorer skating abilities.

    Rauno Palo - Biography [1/2]

Early days Rauno Palo was born in Vaasa, Finland - 13th of October in 1999 to Veikko and Jasmine Palo. At the time, his birth was celebrated as a small miracle, when Rauno was born, he had a full mustache on him, which caused people to think if Rauno was more than just your average kid, could he be some kind of holy kid that has special powers? News about the holy kid born in Vaasa started spreading during the first few days after Rauno´s birth. Naturally the local media tried to feature the whole Palo family in multiple stories and articles, but it was all for nothing, the family demanded privacy and only gave one interview, in that interview Veikko said that Rauno is not going to save the world, he is going to be a hockey player. From there on the family of three lived fairly normal life in Vaasa. Veikko worked as a bouncer and Jasmine was a stay at home mom, who worked part time on the local circus as the bearded lady. Jasmine and her unusual job made her a minor celebrity in Vaasa, many suspect that Rauno inherited his almost supernatural facial hair genes from her. Growing up as the hairy kid with a hairy mom was not easy, Rauno had to shave his face every other day, that helped to tone down the comments from other kids especially. Hockey and sports in general played big part on the daily life in the Palo household. During summer time, volleyball and football were popular and when winter came, it was time to focus on hockey. Vaasan Sport Team that these days plays in Liiga, the highest level in Finland. Vaasan Sport was and still is Veikko Palo´s favorite team. Quite interestingly, Veikko remembers seeing Jasmine in Vaasan Sport game years before they actually met for the first time. Either way, only natural that when Rauno was eight years old and when he joined his first team, it was the Vaasan Sport and their U-10 junior team. Same team where Veikko used to play in as a kid long time ago. From early on it was clear that Rauno had all the tools to be a hockey player some day, he was the tallest and biggest kid who could simply use the larger frame to dominate games and on top of that, his understanding of the game was a lot more developed than most kids. Did not take too long for him to be moved all the way to U-14 team, there he could play with and against players who were closer to him physically. Eight year old getting moved up to the U-14 team was something that was never seen before, once again the media showed interest towards Rauno Palo. He was featured in a local newspaper as the next big thing in hockey. Nothing too exciting happened after that and the next years were typical for any kid, school and just having fun while playing hockey. School Rauno was never a big fan of school, he did the absolute minimum to get by. Jasmine and Veikko tried to push him to focus on the school work, but only thing Rauno really put any effort in was hockey. When Rauno was 14, he almost failed to pass eight grade, turned out that he skipped last few hours of school multiple times to go and play hockey in the local rink, resulting in him failing multiple classes, but he worked hard during the summer and got shown mercy, he moved on to the ninth grade with the others. Jasmine and Veikko were not pleased to hear how their only son is putting all eggs into one basket and focusing so heavily into hockey that it effects the school work, but there was very little they could tell to Rauno, he was determined to play hockey on professional level. If you take the lack of interest towards school out of the picture, Rauno was a good kid. Rarely got into trouble and always helped around the house if something needed to be done, he just wanted to play hockey more than anything. Towards the dream At the age of 15 Rauno practiced with the first team of Vaasan Sport for the first time. At the time Sport´s coach was Reino Köyri, tough but fair coach who had been following Rauno´s progress for some time already. In the practice Palo´s defensive abilities really caught the eye of Köyri, he said that he has never seen a 15 year old play like that. From there on few times per week Rauno practiced with the first team while playing in the junior league. Despite showing a lot of promise as a player and performing well in the practice, Rauno had to wait over a year before finally making his professional debut at the age of 17. Reino Köyri later commented how he did not want to rush Palo and that is the reason why he waited for so long before putting him on the ice in Liiga. Good thing that he waited though, Rauno showed that he is right at home while playing against grown men, in 50 games he scored 25 points, 5+20. After the rookie year in Liiga and with Vaasan Sport, Palo moved to VHLM. Oslo Storm signed the talented center. Start to life in Oslo was not easy, the first time Rauno spent more than few days away from Veikko and Jasmine, then everything that cames with living abroad really tested the young man, but despite all the off ice turbulance, Rauno was able to show tremendous progress on the ice. Moving to VHLM was the right choice for Palo, he got to learn the North-American style of hockey and show to everybody what kind of player he is, 72 games with 35+55, the 6th best total in the whole league! Oslo made the playoffs that year and in the end managed to win championship in front of Yukon Rush who were a heavy favorite after the regular season. Next in line was the VHL draft, great individual season in Oslo pushed Palo up in the rankings, multiple teams were rumoured to be interested, eventually at fourth overall Quebec Meute picked Palo as the first center in the whole draft. What happens next? Only time will tell... (1050)

What Odd VHL Things Do You Do?

Everyone has their quirks. What are some of the odd VHL related things that you do? For example, I: Used the same last name for all of my players Always tried to play at least one season for the Ottawa Ice Dogs/Lynx while in the VHLM Look at the games simmed each day in game number order, no matter where they stand in the "most recent posts" Haven't changed my profile picture in way over a calendar year Almost never hit free agency and stay with the same team unless traded Of the above, two or three of them are most likely going to end at some point. I'm not sure what my next players name will be, but I'm not sure if it'll include the same last name. I'm terrified of someone work-related finding my account on here. I actually planned on changing my profile picture when @Devise asked about it in a press conference. I'm unsure what my free agency plans will be this year. I'm enjoying my time with Quebec this year (more than I thought I would, and that's nothing against @Beaviss and the rest of the Meute), but I may want to hit free agency and choose my own spot for my last year with Jeff.

To call them "People" is giving them too much credit. I don't talk to my family. Fuck them. I don't give them the time of day. My mom was on the phone with her as seconds before the tower fell. They won't tell me what her last words were. They won't tell me if she was trying to get out. I know for a fact they told her I was coming to get her. She and they knew I was in town. I was on my "30 cities in 30 days" party tour. So she might have thought I was coming. So her possible last thoughts were I failed her. I don't know anything. All I know I was in New York and I failed to get there.

I don't feel bad. Just question things that lead up to the tower following. I talked to her that morning. I was just getting back from a party so I was downright fucked. I heard the plane hit and i headed that way. Watching that tower fall was well... horrible. I'll just say that. I know she survived that impact of the plane. She called my mom, she even tried calling me but I was... getting head. I only found out after my buddy turned on the TV. Tried calling back and nothing. What if I answered that call? would I have been able to get to the tower in time? who the fuck knows. Thats the burning question that will pretty much haunt me the rest of my life. I'm not "depressed" or anything like that because of this. It's just haunting questions of what if. These questions only pop up once a year. The rest of the year I don't even think about it.

What Odd VHL Things Do You Do?

Jim - don't think I hit FA Robin - did not hit FA Bernie - FA for 1 season to get traded to CGY mid-season - player sucked though Shayne - Hit free agency after getting traded to SEA, player wasn't very good at the time. HSK was only team that made offer. Jeff - Was on DAV until trade to QUE. Only time I think it's "fun" to hit free agency is if you're a premier player sought after by a bunch of teams...otherwise it just reminds you how much of a scrub you are 😆

    1. He's on those new fangled bath salts. Guy's a beauty but the sim is just fucked this season lmao. His inspiration is ruining the sim engine. 2. Leph Twinger is a bust, no doubt about it. Plus Seattle is just having a lucky sim. It's LIFE 3. Ironside I would say is pretty under appreciated at the moment. He does a shit ton of goodies for the team, has a decent +/-, and is probably the best d-man on the team. 4. Personally I would lean towards Hjalmarsson, but I think he's pretty fairly rated. He's definitely my pick though. Him and Del Zotto in my opinion. 5. Lmao, guess you gotta go with Cast considering how ridiculous the point total difference is. 6. I mean, he can. But Seattle I think has no chance in the playoffs anyways. They won't do much, and they won't make it.

What Odd VHL Things Do You Do?

Yeah maybe. I don't know and I could be off base here but it always felt like, talking with you about it mind you, that you simply want to make one of the best VHL players ever, not just one of the many HoFers who get in because they are good or great in spurts. But you've very much had several players who I think had you stuck them out for sure they would of made it in. I just always got the vibe that wasn't good enough for you. Which is fine, game the VHL however you wish in most cases.
  24. 1 point
Inspired by @Devise to make this topic! At the start of last season, we all thought Vegas was going to be a bottom 5 team in the league. It looked like they didn't have anybody besides James Neal (who now plays for Calgary) and Marc-Andre Fluery. Marc-Andre Fluery was playing subpar a couple of seasons ago and none of us knew if he'd be able to step up his game. Surprise, Marc-Andre Fluery was out of his mind good throughout the whole season. Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson both emerged into these two beast-like hockey players for the Vegas Golden Knights. Their current "number one" defenseman is Nate Schmidt (they got Nate Schimdt from the Washington Capitals in the expansion draft) who was just the Washington Capitals' 7th defenseman. The Vegas Golden Knights didn't just get 80 points last season, they got 109 points. They didn't just earn an immaculate amount of points, they also made it to the Stanley Cup finals. Vegas is a pure example of what dedication and unison can do for you. We need to think for a moment though, would they have made it to the Stanley Cup finals without Marc-Andre Fluery? They probably wouldn't have. Another question is, how long can Fluery be super for the Vegas Golden Knights? Can the Vegas Golden Knights even make the playoffs next year?? They recently acquired Paul Stastny (C) which should help them down the middle. If they can work together in unison again, then they have another good shot at making the playoffs. You don't need these shiny players to be a top team in the league. In conclusion, the Vegas Golden Knights were not a fluke.

They will score goals that's forsure. But the D is not even in the top 15 in the league. They will cough up a lot of quality scoring chances. Anderson faltered last season to the point they thought about a upgrade. We will see. But I do not see a cup in the future unless they fix that D. Which will be hard with the money they spend on Forwards. Still need to re-sign Nylander. Then Matthews and Marner next season. They need to get rid of some forwards to fix that D

WJC and other fun facts for TPE

So with the lack of simming, thanks @Higgins, we've been relegated to suckling on the teet that is the world juniors, spelling it out for word count points. The tither tather of wishy washy performance has, me personally, slacking in the TPE department. My creative juices are being whipped with folks like @Enorama racking up maximum uncapped TPE via hof articles, watch out Gabriel McAllistar (sp?). But, what can ya do as a youngling right? You can just do what you can, hit the capped TPE, and roll with it, hope to be an impact player and perform within the shadow of these behemoths. Will uncapped TPE opportunities arise, will they be exploited and abused? Perhaps, but I guess that's anywhere you go, parity, alas. Here's an interesting tidbit, I'm writing this within the editor on the forum site, and I can't press the enter key .... I'd really much like to format this POS article for the three (3) people who will potentially read it ... But honestly, they're just here for the reviewing TPE since the trivia is fkin hard (for me). I want to see our team excel, but I would also rather a few games consistently than 5 games one day and then a 3 day break, bruv. So, without further ado, RIP my enter key, let's get to the meat of this proverbial sandwitch. The world juniors. Why is there no link on the home page to this? No link on the portal. I have to thumb through forum tabs to get to the games? oof. With that said, team Asia or team Europe, or whoever the fk switched from Canada, first of all, fk you. Second of all, Europes "super star" Oilstain Revchokeblow is having a "career" year, after being torched by his VHL affiliate (seriously, who would draft this guy), he was relegated to the VHLM where he has been riding the coat tails of Borwinn and the other winger we have .... But on the world stage, when he's leaned on to be "the guy" it seems like he cant quite locate the top shelf where mama keeps the peanut butter, or the bottle of frenchies mustard for that matter. But what did you really expect? Something of substance? Go read an actual magazine. It's 379 words so far, and I had to copy paste it into a new tab into google docs, fml. 150x2 good for 4tpe, sure, I'm a hore(s).
