  3. With Doug Matchett hitting the TPE limit for the VHLE recently we decided it would be a great idea to take a look into this promising players career leading up to this point. In his very first season in the M, Doug Matchett put up 26 points in 50 games with the Las Vegas aces. Only joining part way through the season I suppose he was a very solid pickup for the aces adding in 18 points in a 16 game playoff run. Although they came up short in the end it was a very impressive start to his career. After a very impressive start to his career Matchett was picked 7th overall by Halifax . In a short run with Halifax he would put up 42 points in 44 games At the trade deadline he would request a trade to a contender knowing his time in the M was limited. His requested would be granted and he would be moved to Houston shortly after his request. After the trade Matchett would put up 32 points in 26 games helping his team get into the post-season showing he was a force at both ends of the ice. He would end his season with 74 points in 70 games with a total of 100 points in the VHLM. The bulls had a very deep play off run where matchett would put up 18 points in 19 games, once again his team would come up short. A small concern with his game began coming up, was he purely offensive? His defensive game began to show some major problems. Was he just to slow or was he too focused on offense? Although he couldn’t get a championship in the M he had a very solid start to his career and the following season he would move up and joins Cologne. Drafted 33rd overall Matchett was excited to finally suit up in a new league. While not being at the top of the league skill wise he would still manage 53 points in 72 games. Not bad for a rookie defender. Although his performance in his own end became a slight question mark as he would have a +/- of -11. Something that did not improve in his short run in the playoffs. Only having 1 point and a -4 cologne was out in 4 games. during the off-season Matchett would completely re-vamp his game to improve himself. He put in long hours training all off-season to prepare. coming into this season he knew he was close to a shot in the big leagues he just had to prove himself. So far this season he has put up 40 points in 59 games with a +/- of 8. With the post season getting closer and closer will Matchett finally get a cup? Certainly a promising prospect for the Americans, when will Matchett be called up? Will he have to wait for next season or will it be sooner than we think?

Oh not a clue. I really can’t give an answer for that. 4. Oh I’ll more than likely be in the E 5. park somewhere nice and enjoy the weather. 6. I haven’t asked for a lot help recently. When I first started ages ago there were a lot of people helping me out and I’m really grateful for that

  8. 1. I’m not sure honestly. I can do a lot of things and whatever the team needs me to be, is what I’ll be. 2. I was always a bud light guy so I guess that. 3. Oh that’s a good question. The obvious one would be vegas but I feel like somewhere in Canada would be great too. 4. No not at all. We’re the best for a reason. 5. I’m not the gm type so no. 6. I’m not sure what I’ll do. 12. 1. I don’t do a thing. I’m actually working rn. 2. Oh I don’t pay attention to other players if im being honest. 3. Car crashes…. I have 4 4. 15. 1. Well it’s my first couple nights here too I’m not sure what they’ll do but I’m joinin them! 2. Back when I played highschool hockey my very first year we went into every game knowing we’d get destroyed. I’m used to these games and I get over it pretty quickly. 3. The only reason I came back to the M this season was to win. I want to win. Sure if we can just barely squeak in to the playoffs I’ll be fine with that. My goal this season is winning. 4. Oh back when I joined it wasn’t even half of what it was today. The past 3 years have seen huge improvements in the sight and ease of access. When I joined we still had to update our player manually. 5. Depends really sometimes milkshakes sometimes smoothies and no particular flavour. 6. A English band called Mumford and sons is my favourite band. Anything by them is my go to.
  16. 1. Well being drafted 7th ovr was a huge shock to me. I’m very happy to get the chance to play for a team that took the chance and drafted me so high. 2. Well I made a deep playoff run last year with the aces so I think I can bring a lot to the table in terms of experience and leadership. 3. I’m a true two way defenceman. That’s my goal 4. just to improve overall. I’m okay if we don’t make a playoff run I just want to improve. 5. I’m a huge car guy. Love workin on cars and in the summer I’m in a pit crew for my buddy. 6. Somewhere warm and covid free.
  17. 1. Obviously yknow I’m disappointed. This is a great group of guys.. would’ve loved to get it done with them. Obviously I’m not going to be able to stick around next season so it sucks. 2. Yknow I was alright. I could’ve been better in the finals to help us push for the cup. 3. It’s looking like I’ll move up a league but if I don’t I’d love to come back here for another season. 4. Well this was the only team I wanted to play for this year and it was great. 5. Can’t watch football. Don’t like it. 6. I’m boring and haven’t made one
  18. 1. Well we’ve been playin solid hockey in every zone and that’s a big part in our success so far 2. Well I’ve been putting up a solid number of points and playing well in my own end so I’m happy with my play. 3. We have to get back to out game. Consistency is a big thing in this game. If we aren’t consistent we’re done. 4. Gotta go with Shea Weber in his prime. He was a menace and had that booming slap shot. 5. I don’t have one. Honestly, hockey is the only sport I don’t get bored watching. Sometimes basketball but only when the raptors are decent. 6. Porks out of the list right away. Steak or chicken is tough. I’d probably have to take steak though
  19. With the playoffs on the horizon I figured it would be a great time to review Doug Matchett’s season and take a look into his future. Matchett joined the aces a few games into the season and had a slower start then he had hoped for. After finally getting his body to top form he got back on track and helped vegas clinch a playoff spot. Putting up 26 points in 50 games he proved how well he can play in his own end but also how he can help out offensively. With only 4 goals this season matchett’s team of trainers were slightly disappointed. He never scored 5v5 every goal coming from the powerplay, which means he will be a great asset to have on the point for powerplays. Matchett is committed to playing the best of his abilities and wants to improve on his goal scoring for next season and even through these playoffs. With this season being a shorter one for him he averaged 1 penalty minute a game, he hopes to continue his good behaviour throughout his career and stay out of the box as much as possible. His team chose to play him just around 20 minutes a night, matchett wanted to prove it wasn’t a mistake and he proved he could take the load of being a top defender. Now let’s take a look at some potential destinations for Matchett. Now it the chances of staying in the VHLM for another season are very slim as he’s already sitting around 160 TPE so it’s looking more and more likely we’ll se him suit up in the VHLE next season. He’s reportedly not heard from any teams quite yet but he’s already heard from a team in the big leagues. Matchett would like to stay in North America if he were given the opportunity but wouldn’t be completely against going over to Europe. For him he’d like to spend a season in the VHLE on a lower tier team, figuring he can get more minutes and if he stays long enough maybe even less the team to a playoff run. Doug has 3 teams he would prefer in the VHL Chicago,Toronto, and LA. All are teams that aren’t exactly the top tier teams, one could make an argument for LA. Toronto is closer to home for Doug and with his family and friends so close it’d be perfect for him. They wouldn’t have to rush him into the lineup they can let him play his game in the lower level for a season or two and same goes for Chicago. when it comes to LA it’s somewhat different they are currently in a position to win but playing against Vancouver and Seattle it’s less likely to have a run in the playoffs. This is one of his top choices because when they were first announced it was instantly his favourite team to watch. The nicest logo the nicest colour scheme. But, if it came to him choosing a team he would place the other two above LA just for the fact he’s be able to make the team and maybe even work his way up the lineup quicker. Doug is looking to go on a deep playoff run and win the cup. He’s stated that anything less would be considered a failure to him. However in anyone else’s eyes this has been a successful season for him, joining the team late, missing out on training camp and conditioning. He finished the season a lot better than how he started it. It’s looking like the beginning of a promising career for this blue liner, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for him. (word count 618)
  20. 1. I had a pretty tame New Years. Me and a few buddies had a couple drinks and went to bed shortly after midnight. 2. Well we were one of the top teams in the league anything other then a deep playoff run is a disappointment for us. We are here to win. 3. We just have to take it game by game. 4. all I want is a cup. Nothing else. 5. Ya no clue I’m not really the management type. 6. Well the hams….. nevermind. I like dogs always have
