Sorry, it's 3pm here on Xmas day. Just wanted to say I hope you all have a great Christmas and new year and a happy and safe holidays to you and your families.
Thank you to all for your patience and hard work over the last off-season as we made significant changes to the VHL. So far I'm very happy with the way these changes have shaped up and I think S58 is going to be exciting. However, the off-season was obviously a long one as we had to take extra time to implement these changes and that is often boring/frustrating for some.
I mentioned in my previous announcements that we are hoping for S58 to be a big season for the VHL as we make changes and start investing heavily in recruitment. Now that the ball is rolling on S58, we wanted to give everyone a little bonus to kick things off (and as an apology for the long off-season).
Therefore, anyone can claim a doubles week either this PT week or next week. Welfare doesn't qualify for doubles weeks - it has to be a point task.
This will certainly not replace our annual Christmas giveaways so stay tuned for more TPE opportunities!
I love when a manager reaches for that panic button
At Least you know now, that teaches you something
Here I am taking shots at all past, present and future GMs. When a team has a successful season and then the GM questions the team after a playoff loss or a bad season. They blow the team up and acquire assets for the future without giving the team they built a good shot to prove them selves. I've done this and traded away players I shouldn't have all because of that "panic button" and really the pressure of just doing well as a GM. - This annotation was brought to you by Kesler
New commish in town, but wheres the votes?
Blue team is a boat docked and I just untied the ropes
Like an anchor I sure hope it floats
Like an anchor it sank with all their hopes
I know these rhymes ain't got much buoyancy
Like the blue team, I mean just some boys lost at sea
With these bars bolded above I am kind of taking shots and making fun of the newly appointed commishes in the league. I question who voted for these guys [if there were any votes?(I dont have a problem with any of them, they just happened to be apart of my creative process when writing these rhymes)], I then go on to use the whole theme of water, sea, boats, anchors etc. as metaphors to take shots at these guy's. I thought I was being clever here and this was meant to hurt no one. - This annotation was brought to you by Kesler
Now here is a tell tale story of being lost and sin'd
John and Frank my mentors so let the story begin
Let me paint a picture, it was the mid thirties
Okay here I "sample" a line from a song off one of my favourite albums, J coles Born sinner. The original line is "Now what you 'bout to hear is a tale of glory and sin" and then Cole goes into talking about his mentor No I.D similar to how I do. I then mention my General Manager mentors in Frank and John, John being Fever95 who gave me my first shot back on Turku 20 something seasons ago. I then say "Let me paint a picture" and this is me giving a transition to the following lines where I mention my struggles as GM, a past GM who is no longer around and a member I had on my team at one time. - This annotation was brought to you by Kesler
You know you cant mention roman without hermes
I didnt really know how to act tho
A decade later who knew being a GM was my plateau
I dont even wanna mention being a rookie GM
"You cant mention roman", here I am referring to Romaneuntdomas (or some shit like that), as I am talking about me being a GM in the mid thirties for Quebec, Roman was a GM back then so thats the connectin with roman. Now Hermes is a a greek god and is a part of roman mythology (clever right?) so theres the connect between romana and hermes (Roman being a double entendre). I then mention being a GM and that will likely be the highest position I will ever old on the VHL. - This annotation was brought to you by Kesler
Who know a couple seasons later that Boy was a gem
I didnt even know where my team was at on the map
Dont mention that one trade or i'ma snap
The first line of "That boy was a gem", when I traded for Travis BOYchuk, I had no clue what kind of player or member I was getting when I outbid a couple teams to acquire him. He turned out to be a huge part of my success as a GM on Quebec and turned into a huge contributor in the VHL community. So I think that line was appropriate. The second line was referring to my first season as GM where I believe Quebec made the finals, I had no idea "where I was on the map" as in I didnt know that team was good enough to make the finals and in hindsight was actually the last time my team made it. The last line is me just saying, I've made quite a few bad deals in my not so long time as GM so I thought it was a cheeky way to end it. - This annotation was brought to you by Kesler
