  1. Potential misinformation. The same lightning storm moving across that area also confused people in Ukraine. It was probably just lightning and this guy jumped the gun thinking it was missile strikes.
  2. As crazy as it sounds, I'm almost certain Ukraine is more desensitized to conflict within their country than we would be if US/Canada was invaded instead. They've been bordering a civil war since 2014 [in my opinion] with the whole Donbas fiasco.
  3. China won't do anything to Taiwan until they see what NATO and UN do in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It's both a strategical and tactical opportunity to collect some passive intel on how countries would react to a real world invasion of another sovereign country, they'll be relying on their military intelligence to interpret the response and create a threat profile for any future decision they make. It might seem crazy right now, just wait until 9:00 AM tomorrow for us as NATO and the UN deploy their responses.
  4. Despite the strikes that'll probably continue throughout the night for us on the western continents, I don't think this escalates into a 'world war' like people are assuming. NATO and some UN countries might commit to the threat of deploying troops to Ukraine and engaging Russian military on the ground and in the air, but the majority of the world will simply watch as two superpowers [Russia vs. USA] go at each other if this evolves into that. Right now it's just Russia hitting military targets with missiles and bombs; Ukrainian command and control centers, ammunition depots, Ukrainian Air Force assets, Ukrainian Army assets, surface-to-air missile defense positions, radar arrays and what not. They're disarming the Ukraine before likely annexing the country, I'm not sold many nations want to engage in an active fight against Russia for what's mostly a Russian country in the first place.
  5. Don't worry about it, Nurx's parents don't know he's playing M rated games yet. My list of particular games or franchises. 1. Escape From Tarkov 2. ArmA 3 [Modded] 3. Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock 4. Halo: The Master Chief Collection 5. Mass Effect franchise 6. Horizon: Zero Dawn 7. Battlefield franchise 8. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 9. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 10. Wargame: Red Dragon
  6. Congratulations! So... Did Shrek teach you about newborns as well the first time around? "They just eat and poop, and they cry... and then they cry when they poop and poop when they cry." Why yes, I did watch Shrek 1, 2 and 3 on repeat for two years. And Lilo and Stitch. And Frozen.
  7. You're partially right, but it's more thorough than handholding and immaturity. Some days it was the leagues inability to forgive someone who hurt or wronged you, instead grudges are kept and mistakes are remembered as deterrents; some days it's the inability to be thoughtful or understanding, instead replaced by personal agendas and fragmented integrity; some days it's the inability of conflict resolution, replaced by blacklisting and avoidance; some days it's the meme culture, or perhaps the very real ostracism that happens at various levels on the forum; and other days it's watching a known exploit be exploited; and more! I am both a culprit and victim to the above, I have done what eats away at me. Kinda all binds together and makes the atmosphere here feel really toxic. I said this in another thread, but I didn't realize that until I had posted my resignation.
  8. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it. I probably should have stepped down a long ass time ago, I've felt this toxic grip on me for awhile now... just didn't realize it until the weight was lifted after posting my resignation.
  9. I just want to state for the record I'll transfer server ownership of Toronto's DLR to the individual who replaces me. I did the same thing with Saskatoon's when I received Toronto, I don't mind doing it again.
  10. This is my notice to the league. I am stepping down from my role as a VHL GM at the conclusion of Toronto's season (prior to the VHL Entry Draft). Over the last few months my interest in the Victory Hockey League has taken a steep nose dive, and as a whole I've found myself growing more irritated with the league recently; it has become a chore to login. It's not fair to those on the Toronto Legion, the league or aspiring VHLM & VHLE GMs/the GM wishful that a sitting VHL GM struggles to visits the forum beyond seeing sim results, engaging in minor trades and rarely reading threads. As the GM of Toronto I had massive plans for the second rebuild I had put the team through, I had doubled down on my scouting and was drafting members I thought would be a good fit within our developing locker room. Normally I think someone here would say something along the lines of how they feel bad the Legion weren't in a position to compete, but I'll be leaving my replacement with what I consider a decent young roster. Continuing on: I've come to terms with myself on numerous subjects; as I get older I've noticed I have less personal patience with people, which can absolutely be attributed to the daily stresses I've had [and continue] to endure over the last couple of years and the mental pressure of those stresses; I lack the tact to deal with people and the drama -- innocent or not -- that comes with the territory of being a general manager; and frankly I'm an older soul who has more controversial opinions on the practices and strategies within the VHL. History will remember me as a mediocre GM with no accomplishments, I accept that, but at least I'll step away with my integrity intact (and the S69 Saskatoon Wild). Take care everyone, - Peace (To whom it may concern, Doomsday was hired as my AGM recently, we all know he's a great person and has GM experience with the VHL. I'd like to recommend him for the position if he'd like it, but I understand that decision is not mine to make.)
  11. 1. On the eve of Season 82, what expectations do you have for the Toronto Legion as the new season begins? I'm certainly expecting playoff hockey for us, I think that's a healthy expectation to have considering we made it last season. 2. Otto Numinen was the leading scorer in Season 81, so after his retirement, who will become the offensive leader for this team? We're a little into the season now, and while I lead the team in points currently, I'm almost positive one of Fire or Nylen will climb above me. 3. What team do you feel is the biggest threat to win the Continental Cup this season? Vancouver for obvious reasons. 4. Toronto recently hired a new AGM, what were your thoughts on the new addition to management? 10/10 AGM 5. Who is a musical artist you don't feel gets enough respect? I'm going to say it... I don't really listen to music, so I wouldn't know how much any artist is respected. 6. Will anyone take down Pistil Stamen to become the Unofficial VHL World Heavyweight Champion? Yes.
  12. For what it's worth Vasteras' LR during S81 was essentially the S80 championship team going back and saying 'WE CHAMPS!' throughout the season. Keep in mind we were alumni at that point, so the 'roster player' LR might have been different. Alumni only areas often fizzle out anyway.
  13. I don't wanna. I only want to bash members if it's not allowed in a thread. Chaos, Gustav, chaos... not order!
  14. Still going TOR strong! Jannik Nylen
  15. No you don't, it's a snake draft so the only people who have to picks are 1 and 6. 1 starts, 6 picks twice at the end and start of a new round, then 1 again at the end and start of a new round, etc. That being said, I don't want Powers, so I'll just tag @ajwllmsn instead. (of course unless our group GM wants otherwise, I'll tag him too. @v.2) G - Oskar Lindbergh D - Cadmael Ixazaluoh
  16. This needs to be, well, not a thing honestly. I'll admit I called up my guy remembering a false conversation, I thought they wanted to play up but never actually requested it when we were talking about where they'd play on the roster. I made sure earlier today when I was pinged about this issue in the AM and verified his intent.
  17. I'm going to break the ice here. Two-way communication is a double edged sword when failure happens on both sides. It's easy to say VHL GMs should be contacting VHLE GMs saying 'Hey, we're calling this guy up!' as a courtesy. Yeah, that makes absolute sense. But for you as a VHLE GM I'll add to this conversation by saying it should also be your responsibility to contact VHL GMs throughout the postseason, communicate with players who'll be within that 350-400 TPE gap and ensure your own rosters' stability by figuring out whether or not you'll be loosing some of your assets. If I'm calling up a player because we need that player, then that player should have already been informed, so when they're not then it turns into a problem. That means a VHL GM isn't communicating at all and just clicking buttons, that's a failure of our responsibilities to that player. Hopefully this is a learning experience that mutual communication needs to start somewhere and there's going to be many different perspectives on this.
  18. F - Kyle Peace F - Matty Fire @Scurvy
  19. 1. Drafting at 9th overall, Toronto selected defenseman Bo Johansson @Shindigs, further adding to the Legion's defensive depth. He factors to join pro roster for Season 83, spending this season in the VHLE with the Bratislava Watchmen. What type of impact can we expect from Johansson as a pro? I'm tagging him through association because I'm that excited to have him with the Legion. I expect Johansson will made an immediate impact as Nylan begins to regress as he makes his way onto our roster, and instantly replaces an inactive Lemiuex. Dance, dance, dance! 2. At 25th overall, Toronto drafted Phoebe Bridgers @GrittyIsKing, adding another prospect into contention to fill in for the loss of Otto Numinen in the future. What could set Bridgers apart from other forward prospects in Toronto's pipeline? Bridgers development path will be quicker than the prospects we've got in the current pipeline. That means he'll have more time as a VHL forward before the required career retirement at the end of his ninth season. 3. Johansson and Bridgers were the two additions Toronto made through the Season 82 VHL Entry Draft, passing with their fifth round selection. How would you rate the Legion's draft class? Individually I'd rate it around an A, but overall probably a B- personally. The two picks we made are awesome, but optimally I would have had more ammunition to continue the rebuild and replace losses we've sustained [and will continue to sustain] through hiatuses and retirement. 4. Who do you think was the biggest steal in this season's draft? I'm not sure, but if BigAL returns he'll absolutely be the steal of the draft. 5. What's your mindset like heading into Season 82? Finals. 6. If a VHL logo of your choice came to life, which one do you feel you'd have the easiest time beating up? Prague. Phantoms don't have no ground to stand on when I'm the ghost hunter on Phasmophobia! I may not be able to physically beat him up, but I leave them an emotional mess when I've discovered what they are.
