  1. Scotty Campbell, Brett Slobodzian, Aidan Shaw and so many more. The names of the league's legends live forever etched in the names of our coveted player awards. With the VHLE kicking off shortly a new batch of awards are up for grabs, and as it stands (to my knowledge) they are actively unnamed. This opens a window for the first generation of VHLE stars to leave their mark on the league and seek to set the bar for future players. Through these first couple seasons, VHLE players that stand atop the class may very well carve their name into VHLE history, leaving these awards named after their historic performances. Will the next generation of VHLE goaltenders be fighting for the Tobias Reinhart Award or Xavier Booberry Award? Will Genghis Khan transfer over the level of skill he exhibited in the VHLM and establish himself as the league's top performer? There are so many players with the potential to be game breaking in the VHLE, because we have never seen this level of competition at scale before. The closest we've come has been the recent iterations of the World Junior Championship, and there have been some wild performances there. Who's to say what the VHLE landscape will truly look like even 15 games in? S80 will be the start to determining the answers to these questions, and I think it's fair to say we are all eagerly awaiting. Here's to a great inaugural season and to history in the making.
  2. Total opposite for me lol, I tried to earn as much as I could before and it would kill my interest after a couple seasons, now doing a couple of tasks every now and then makes it more interesting for me.
  3. I couldn’t find it anywhere but there’s a decent shot I just missed it, however if it’s not already implemented the VHLE should have a reduced player experience model similar to the VHL as technically speaking the VHLE is still pro hockey. Obviously it wouldn’t be to the same extent but scaled back to maybe 50% seems fair.
  4. 1. What did you think of the Awards Show this year? Malmo won quite a few awards! I was out of state when the awards show went down, but I’m super proud of the boys for raking in as much as they did. Well deserved all around! 2. The new season is already upon us, how are you ensuring there's no Cup hangover? By winning a different cup, all aboard the Cologne Express baby this train has no brakes! 3. Do you think we have what it takes to go back to back? I think it’s going to be tough, a lot of depth moving out to the E and regression hitting some of our vets will hurt, but we’re not going down easy. 4. Which team do you think has had the best off-season? I’m only just starting to pay close attention again so I honestly couldn’t tell you, I don’t even know who’s on half the teams lol. 5. What has been your main focus as you prepare for the new season? Starting to up my earning so I can be a truly impactful player once I return to Malmo. 6. What did you do with the Cup when it was your turn to have it? Big pasta guy over here.
  5. Having the passion for it is what makes it all worth it, you brought an energy to that lockeroom every day that I could only dream of matching. Ultimately only you can know when the time is right for you to step away, but you’ve been a hell of a GM for Malmo and no matter what you’ve left your mark on this team. Best of luck to you with whichever decision you make, I’m glad I got to play for you.
  6. With the conclusion of S79 I conclude Zeljko's first pro season in the VHL. Drafted by Malmo 30th overall back in S77, a pick that has been exactly on target (ranked 30th in post-draft TPE rankings), Zeljko would go on to dominate in the VHLM for two seasons before joining the pro squad this year for his first taste of professional hockey. With a fairly experienced core, Zeljko would play sheltered minutes and ultimately be a low impact player in his rookie season. This wasn't without promise, however, as the player's 29 points through 796 minutes of regular season play made him the most offensively efficient defenseman on the roster second only to Scotty Kaberle. His defensive game felt extraordinarily weak this season, seeing only 52 blocked shots, 18 hits, and a +3 on a team that won the most regular season games in the league. If Zeljko wants to take that next step in the VHL, his leaky defense needs to be a primary focus of his. Ranogajec's rookie season didn't net him any individual awards, which came to the surprise of nobody, however with Malmo he would get to stamp his name on the Continental Cup, an achievement many players will never get to see in their careers. The playoff stint capped off an incredible season for Malmo, in which the Victory Cup was secured in the regular season followed up with a Continental Cup win in the playoffs. Zeljko crumbled under the pressure of playoff hockey, posting by far his worst offensive performances of his career thus far. With 2 points through 19 games, Zeljko was the least efficient producer on the team. Despite this, his defensive game took major strides, seeing a team high +5 as well as an uptick in rate of blocked shots and hits. While it still needs work, these developments prove promising for the young defenseman. Malmo wasn't the only team Zeljko went all the way with, as under leadership of GM Minion Team World would go on to win gold at the World Junior Championship. An incredible showing saw the defenseman post a 2 PPG pace through the round robin and medal stages of the tournament, finishing with 1 goal and 19 assists through 10 games. The defenseman led the tournament in points and was third in shots blocked and hits, a dominant showing that bodes well for his eventual transition into the VHLE. Fortunately, with the introduction of the VHLE Zeljko has a major opportunity to evolve his game. Drafted 25th overall in the VHLE Expansion Draft by the Cologne Express, he sits as the top defenseman on one of the best teams in the VHLE. The level of competition in the VHLE is similar to that of the World Juniors, which is a promising sign for Zeljko in the upcoming season. Cologne is poised to be a powerhouse, one the player hopes to be an integral part of. The expectation should be nothing short of dominance for the defenseman, and hopefully with some additional hardware Zeljko can return to Malmo in S81 with a plethora of new experience and a more developed/mature game that is VHL ready. 523 Words
  7. I was transported so @NSG88is solid as towny
  8. Oh we got a wise guy eh? You know you don’t have a case you’re just being aggressive for no evident reason. There’s multiple people who missed the first night phase lol.
  9. That’s some crazy hard pushing for day one, I’d like to see a little more concrete evidence than that.
  10. 1. We've started the season 9-4-0. What do you think about our record? That's a good start, I think we can do better. I hope we start putting together some better results down the road here. 2. Would you consider us a serious cup contender? Yes, we have a deep and strong roster. We should expect to compete every night. 3. The Yukon rush and @Juice have declared war on us? What do you think of this potential rivalry? There is no rush. 4. Other than the Yukon Rush, who would you consider our biggest rival? I don't have enough of a pulse on the community to determine rivalries in all honesty. 5. We have a handful of players who are above a point per game including Genghis Khan @caltroit_red_flames who's tied for the league lead in points and Alex Johnston @Alex_J32 who's leading the league in goals. Are you happy with your players performance so far this season? Because we have a stronger roster our top 3 guys aren't running the team anymore, so my production has dropped off. It's disappointing but not unexpected. 6. What's your favourite video game right now? Knockout City is so much fun, I've been having a blast with that. 7. What is your go to hype up song? I jump between genres so often I don't have a set go to lol. 8. Peanut butter or Nutella and why? Peanut butter all day, Nutella is too rich. 9. Is water wet? Yes.
  11. Looking to start recording a podcast since I have lost the ability to write 500 words and graphics are hard, so if anyone has questions they want answered or talked about drop them down below!
  12. 1. With the draft we have a completely new look team. How do you think the draft went for the team? This team can and will contend. We picked up a load of strong assets and as the season goes on they will only continue to get stronger. Let's win a cup in Philly how 'bout it? 2. Do you have any goals for your player this season? I got runner-up for defenseman of the year, and I think there's an argument where I win that award last season but that's neither here nor there. Point is that trophy is mine this season. Nice try everyone else. 3. If you could have a goal song for your player, what would it be? I feel like if I don't pick Down Under there will be charges pressed so we'll stick with that one. Maybe @Berocka and @dasboot can weigh in on that lol. 4. How do you think our team will do this season? Easy contenders, I want to call at WORST conference finals but I'm a little stitious about making calls like that. 5. Any recommendations for a new channel of Discord? (counting, etc...) Not really, suppose there's no harm in having them lol. 6. If you were drafted to the VHL, where were you drafted? And how are you enjoying your VHL experience so far? 30th overall to Malmo, almost all of the staff and players there are people I've had nothing but good interactions with so its been a good time. 7. What team is your pick to win the Stanley Cup playoffs in the NHL? Did your favourite team make it? The Canes have looked unstoppable, it's hard to vote against them. I'd really like to see Minnesota get it but I don't see it happening. Detroit will not see the playoffs before I graduate college so no they did not make it lol. 8. Favourite food? Probably sushi or thai food? It depends on how I'm feeling really there's a lot of other VERY close options.
  13. Ranogajec's second season in the VHLM was nothing short of shocking. The rather off-meta puck mover was expected to be mediocre, having put no points into scoring and having the majority of the TPE allotted to physical defensive play. This was not the case. Zeljko instead dominated on the Reapers top pairing, posting 90 points with a league leading 84 assists and ranking 4th and 3rd among blocked shots and hits respectively. This performance won him the Vladmir Boomchenko Trophy and runner-up for the Ryan Sullivan, the VHLM's top defenseman award. Sitting about 40 TPE shy of the VHLM cutoff, Zeljko will be spending another season with the Reapers in the VHLM before moving up to join the Malmo Nighthawks, a prospect rich season that should hopefully be entering its window shortly. I had zero expectations coming into this player. Zeljko was going to be purely a welfare+ player and ideally fade into mediocrity as I played with weird build ideas. Then this dood wins an award and almost wins another. Assuming similar if not improved results this season, Zeljko may clean house with defensive awards. Clearly there's something here that works, and works well. I'm going to try and make Zeljko live up to an award winning player's expectations. Does this mean max earn every week, probably not, but I'll at least look to develop more and hopefully turn into a Moritz Seider-esque piece for the Nighthawks in seasons to come. Also writing is a lot harder than I remember it being I think this pandemic gave me brain rot.
  14. Cannot believe Sonnet would apply for a job, really disrespectful of him to throw his hat in the ring, next time he should just start shit for no apparent reason
  15. Still think I had the most fun back when me and @Sonnet used to butt heads for VHLM goalie dominance. Coming up with new storylines every week was a blast and led to a lot of good laughs.
  16. I mean I'll take being confused with a platinum artist any day of the week
  17. Zeljko Ranogajec the VHL defenseman shares a name with a real world gambler of Australian origin. The name was chosen as any player I make is guaranteed to be a gamble, and I might as well embrace it at this point. However, this season begs an interesting question for Zeljko, which may push him to become a true top pair D-man for the VHL should it go his way. That question: Is Zeljko Ranogajec the best defenseman in the VHLM? There is definite merit to this question, which I never thought Zeljko would even be near that conversation. On one of the league's bottom feeding teams this season, Zeljko led all defensemen in points and the entire league in assists, with 90 and 84 respectively. But being an offensive threat doesn't make you a strong defenseman, if you don't excel at the other end of the ice that point generation is all for nothing. No worries, as Zeljko also placed 4th in shots blocked and 3rd in hits, at 127 and 292. While +/- suffered this season, which is to be expected from a non-competitive roster, few other defensemen consistently punched in the top 10 across the other primary defensive metrics, and those who did fell a ways behind the Australian defender. Only time will tell if Zeljko walks away with the award, but it is a very real possibility. I realized after writing everything that the portal has fucked up metrics for players who were traded so it may not be 100% accurate, but regardless Zeljko still punches very high in this seasons defensive ranks.
