MALMO, SWEDEN - Randy Marsh had a couple days to bask in the glory of being the first ever Victory Fighting Federation champion, after being awarded the belt in his very first game of the season. The prospect of glory got a certain unexperienced fighter excited, however, as The Terrible Trivium, a five-season veteran playing for the London United, decided to get into his third career fight against the current champion. Marsh obviously took Trivium down easily under thunderous applaud from teammates and fans altogether. Since that second brawl, however, it seems like other VHL fighters respect Marsh too much and don't want to force him to defend his title again, as he's now been exactly 12 games without punching anyone. That, or maybe they are too afraid of him to drop the mitts against him. Marsh himself seems like he's ready to get back into it though, as he publicly invited other VHL heavyweights to dance with him. Here's hoping someone answers the call in the next couple of days.

    Dear VHL,

Randy Marsh here with an open letter to all the players and teams out there. As you may know it is my final season in the VHL and I do have a few goals and fights left in me before I go back to Tegridy Farms. Now the goals have been coming as easily as a spooky ghost, but the fights not so much. Now I know I am an imposing figure, but gaul I didn't think it would be so scary to fight a middle out of shape dad like myself. I thought this was America, where any red blooded hockey player would drop the gloves at a moments notice.

I do hear from many anti fighting hockey fans, who say things like "The players should all wear bras! And instead of helmets, they should wear little tinfoil hats, ‘cause, you know, it’s the future and we shouldn’t be so barbaric!" The pansification of hockey is well underway and well I'm just trying to keep it old fashioned.

So I'm giving an open invitation for any VHL player to fight me, cause I for one didn't hear no bell!

    Regards,
    Randy Marsh

    FrostBeard's Chronicles "Calgary and Bushito"

Well then, we haven't seen this in a few weeks, and now that my previous FrostBeard's Chronicles article is buried deep down in Thunderdome I can come here and speak openly about my first experience as a member of Calgary Wranglers back in S67. It was truly a wild time and I am not gonna sit here and sugarcoat it but there was a lot of bad blood between members and teams, we had no real rules and some GMs were just generally lazy and didn't want to do anything.

When I moved from S66 Founder's Cup-winning Philadelphia Reapers to Calgary Wranglers, I have to say, I was extremely excited. I was hyped up by my VHLM GM Blade who's player Brick Wahl was a goaltender for the Wranglers and by other members who were active in the Philly locker room and said that Calgary is going to be an amazing place. When I first joined the team and I was greeted by all these amazing people I felt lucky and honored to be among so many league-wide known community members.  It however didn't take long before my GM Bushito or Bush as I will refer to him from now on was quite distant from me. We never had a conversation, he always was cold and really only communicated with BladeMaiden and Dil at the time. It was fine but I was used to actually having chats and discussions with GMs rather than them being someone who you see rarely on. I don't think anyone really thought that Calgary had the greatest chances at the cup that season, we had a lot of younger players and older players that were not really that great anymore. Surely, we had rising stars like Wahl and Starload but it felt like we needed to get ourselves ready and spend time developing our players.

I wanted to be a member of Calgary because I knew people there and they knew me and it felt natural but after joining the team didn't feel like home. It felt like I was thrown into a situation where I was the third wheel, discussion in Discord LR general chat made me realize that there were different opinions surfacing and that one of the strongest opinions was that Calgary had to improve and become a true contender instantly. And so it began. There were two sides of the story - I would call it Dil side and the Blade side. Dil side was the one who really wanted to compete right now and felt like we didn't have the time to wait for my player John Frostbeard and some other prospects to grow. Blade's side was a lot more favorable - she wanted to make Calgary home to players and she really strived to make Calgary a place where everyone is accepted and people are not traded just because we need to win right now.

Discussions about this topic ranged from talking about the fact that Calgary won't play John Frostbeard and other prospects in playoffs because the format 6-4-1 didn't permit other, younger and weaker players to have a role to blowing up the team and selling off some of the really older players and just building the new Wranglers around Wahl, Fish, and Starload. These discussions never really led to anything and to me, a newcomer to the team it felt weird, I felt left out and I thought that Bush wasn't even interested in anything that was discussed.

    The trade

It was quite a shock to receive a message, without a real warning just a fact that I am getting traded. It is interesting that I didn't even take it as bad as I thought I would. I understood that I am just an asset, nothing else and if an asset is not going to be ready to perform when the team needs it to, the asset is getting moved. What did however make no sense was that I actually didn't even get any warning that it would happen, GM Bush told me that I am going to be a part of the future for Calgary and yet I am getting moved?

After a lot of thinking, my first idea was that maybe they want to get a truly huge, superstar player on their team like Matt Thompson. I thought that Calgary might have another deal locking in and that I was just gonna be traded to free some cap space. Boom! The trade is announced and to me, it honestly didn't make any sense for Calgary. Calgary decided to part ways with John Frostbeard, a young and perspective player, Maxim Kovalchuk, a future Hall-of-Famer and an important piece in their defensive core and a third-round pick to get their hands on Joel Ylonen, a player that was well known around the league for underperforming with high potential. At first, I looked at it as a desperate move by incompetent GM, and yet the more I looked I understood that it didn't make any sense to me at all. Why would you trade away a significant part of your future (Consider that my player, John Frostbeard was picked as 12th Overall in S66 VHL Draft) and a star player that was still able to help your team dominate? It made and still makes no sense.

This situation also created tension between players and GMs. There was a great rift that formed between Bush and some part of his team as this trade was seen as a pander to Dil's wishes. It also created a huge rift between GM Bush and GM Bana. GM Bana was looked at as a traitor and a terrible GM and even my role in Calgary LR was cur short and I got kicked out due to the fact that I was labeled a Bana spy. It made no sense to me and still doesn't due to the fact that I was willing to be a member of Calgary Wranglers for all my career, I wanted to be there and contribute to the team. GM saw it differently. The fact that there was no real communication between me and my GM made it even worse an it felt like my huge anticipation for VHL was just beaten into the ground by someone who didn't care about anyone else except himself.

To me, this just shows that Bushito was a weak GM and a GM that wouldn't hold his job right now for longer than a week. It was an experience that opened my eyes to different GMs, their approaches. It allowed me to understand that Calgary wasn't really GMed, it was run as a rivalry between Dil and Blade where Bush was trying to make peace with both.
And that is going to be it, thanks to anyone who actually read it, and cheers! I will catch with my next FrostBeard's Chronicles in 2 weeks!

MIAMI (JP) - There's an old saying in hockey that goes thusly; "After the Cup, cometh the hangover."

And there's no more popular a place to be hungover than Miami, Florida.

The team was ravaged by VHLM graduations and waiver losses like no other. Gone were the historical conquerers Alexander the Great (@Shiny) and Napoleon Bonaparte (@CptSquall) to their respective VHL teams. The defence was gutted as S78 1st Rounder Damien Salducci (@Deee.Geee) and Jocke Jockesson (@ThomasSyster) returned to the VHLM draft to oppose the Maurauders in S78. Worst of all, Skyler Rift Trophy winner and starting goaltender @ClapbombsRus went on to make his VHL debut with the Calgary Wranglers.

Little enough was left behind. Most notably defenceman Vassily Grigorev (@Noxalpha), who was promptly dealt to the Philidelphia Reapers for a 1st and a 3rd in the S80 Dispersal Draft.

While competing for a playoff spot may seem bleak under these circumstances, it has allowed the new additions to the team to shine. Chief among them is team captain Mikey Markov (@JetsFan81), who has put up an incredible 13 goals and 20 points in just 11 games so far this season.

On a more earthly scale, we also see the likes of Roberts Stutzle (@Coldex) quietly making a name for himself. After putting up 14 points in 50 games in his inaugural VHLM season with the Las Vegas Aces, Stutzle slid all the way to Round 3 of the VHL Draft, being selected 44th overall by the Calgary Wranglers. Miami GM @InstantRockstar wouldn't wait quite as long in the Dispersal Draft, grabbing the big lanky Latvian winger 21st overall in the 2nd Round. Stutzle has been improving greatly under Miami management, already putting up 6 points in 11 games, matching his goal total from last season, and putting him on pace to shatter his production rates altogether.

Meanwhile, the new goaltending duties have fallen to early season waiver pickup Em Em Flex (@oilmandan). With only two mediocre defencemen remaining in front of him, the young goalie has been holding his own, facing an average of 25 shots per game. The amount of action he sees will give him plenty of opportunity to improve over the season, and his 2 assists so far put him on pace to finish the season with 13 points, which is nearly as many as Stutzle got last season as a forward.

Speaking of mediocre defencemen, Poopy Peepants is there as well.

It will be a challenging season for the Maurauders, but these new faces will be front and center of it all until more mid-season signings make their way to Florida!

oilmandan reacted to Telkster in Malmo off to hot start
    Intro
Malmo’s 6-3 start has shaken up the EU conference, with many teams overachieving, and also underachieving. Teams like Riga have left fans confused and almost shocked. With a solid goalie tandem and a great group of forwards on Riga, there only real question mark was defense. I don’t think this really warrants the start they have of 1-5-2. While Riga could continue to pick high and essentially constantly be solidifying the future, for whenever that future may start, it’s almost the opposite scenario in Malmo. If they get to another year of playoffs and no lottery picks, will that give Malmo high enough picks in the next couple of years to win a cup down the road? In short, yes I think they still can.

    Player Stats
Malmo have been popping off in the goals department. At one point this week, Malmo had 4 players in the top 10 for point totals. Muffbeav, Telker, and Dayne each have 15, 14, and 13 points respectively each in 9 games. If this pace continued, there could surely be no doubt that playoffs would be in sight for this young team. The question becomes if they can now. Captain Druss is already set to crush his rookie season scoring of 17 points in 72 games. Look out, cause with all the hits he’s been racking up, Deathwalker already has 7 points in 9 games this year. Walkers is on current pace for a near 50 point season, which would be a big leap up from his first 2 seasons of around 25 points. Sterk is off to a slower start of 4 points in 9 games, but this could be due to the Muffbeav pickup, as not everyone can be at a ppg. Marsh and Kamenov have combined for 21 points in 18 games combined, a great start for the presumed #1 and #2 defensemen on the team, not in any particular order. Wu and Wakaro are both off to pretty typical starts, but both have the potential to beat their season personal bests. Rookie D man Sova is off to a great start for a player that young with 4 points through his first 9 games. Goaler Tretiak is off to a beastly start of 6-2, with a .939 SV% and a 2.58 GAA. The backup McPine has played just one game and lost, but he did post a .936 SV% that game.

    Off-season + S79 Predictions
This off-season could be the major shift into a gunning for the playoffs for real, instead of somehow sneaking in with one of the worst on paper rosters. I think this will be dependant on if Malmo moves draft picks for players or not. I think one move for a center, and another for a D man could make us a legit threat in the league next season. I still believe in building for the future and not moving all of next years picks. But with 3 1sts this year, all it would take is another Muffbeav type of trade, and maybe a nice FA signing, and we could be talked about very soon as one of the top teams in the league!
