  4. Coming off his recent VHLE Defenseman of the year award, Guntis Gavilrovs continues to perform at a high level in the S92 WJC tournament for Team Europe! So far through 6 games of the round robin Europe is 5-1 and Gavilrovs leads the team in scoring with 8 points, consisting of 1 goal and 7 assists! He also has a whopping 26 hits to lead the tourney and 16 blocks as he's once again showing a dominant physical game to compliment his offensive game. Amazingly he has kept his penalties somewhat under control with only 10 pims in 5 games. It appears that Team Europe and Team Canada are the top teams in the tourney this year, they've played once so far and it was a 3-2 win for the Canadians but could have gone either way. It should be fun to see how this tourney ends and if Gavilrovs can lead Europe to a 1st place finish. It also should be noted that other Vancouver S93 rookies are also playing great in this tourney, Ninefingers, Carstein, Martin and DB IV are all performing at a high level. The Wolves future is incredibly bright!
  5. 1. I would have to say Annie Oaks to Vancouver at 4, player and person seem awesome and should become a superstar 2. I'm currently in the WJC so that's fun but I wouldn't mind a golf sim league lol 3. Minnesota without question. The state of Hockey. Questions: 1. What does your player do in the off-seasosn to keep busy? 2. What are your goals for the upcoming season? 3. How much should a beer cost at your home arena?
  6. Honored to have won the Jake Thunder Trophy! Congrats to all the other winners as well!
  7. The Vancouver Wolves will be taking the ice this season with 6 active rookies in the line up! A very exciting time for the organization as this group has a lot of upside and star power! Logan Ninefingers: The 1st Overall pick in the S92 VHL draft, the big power forward had a great minor league career racking up 230 points in 162 games along with 531 hits. He brings an elite skill set and a rugged physical game to the Wolves and has to be one of the favorites for rookie of the year in S93! Riley Martin: The 4th Overall pick S92, Martin is coming off a fantastic season in the VHLE where he tallied 90 points in 72 games and was among the top scorers in the league. A sublimely talented forward who also has a strong two way game, Martin will become a superstar in this league for Vancouver! Vlad Von Carstein: Taken 6th Overall in S92 the highly skilled defenseman is coming off a championship in the VHLE and was one of the best defenseman in entire the league with 71 points. VVC has also racked up 152 points in 156 minor league games from the blue line! High end offense and strong defense means the sky's the limit for him in the VHL! Guntis Gavilrovs: Taken 7th Overall in the S92 draft, the mammoth defender is a beast at both ends of the ice, leading the VHLE in hits (295) and assists (61) as well as all defenseman in scoring with 78 points last season. Gavilrovs was a force during his entire minor league career throwing 519 hits and scoring 143 points in 152 games. Just an absolute beauty. DB IV: 12th Overall from the S92 draft, the well rounded defenseman plays a strong phsyical game and has good offensive upside as evident by his 60 points from the blue line in 72 games during his VHLM season. His 371 hits in 160 minor league games shows he can get it done in both zones and he should develop into a strong blue liner for the Wolves! Mikko Borisyuk: The journeyman rookie was taken 27th back in S89 and has had a bit longer road to the VHL but he is a highly talented forward who can produce offense with 268 points 360 minor league games. He will add great scoring depth the Wolves this season! A great looking rookie crop for Vancouver, it will be exciting to see what kind of impact they all have in season 93!
  8. 1. I think he will add much needed experience and a high skill set which should help us push for a playoff spot 2. All talented high upside rookies, anyone is capable of breaking out but I'd have to say #1 pick Logan Ninefingers will be the standout this season. 3. I think it's a solid trade that improves our current roster, so as long as management think it was the best move then I'm on board! 4. Assuming that is the rookie of the year trophy.. then again I'd go with Ninefingers, but if it rewards hits then I'd say Gavilrovs. 5. I think with the recent moves and our experienced coaches we can definitely push for a playoff spot. I have confidence in our group. 6. Lots of great players available but probably another high end forward, someone with a good all around game. Bonus: I think we can do it, winning a round would probably make him a lock for the trophy, so I'm not counting him out. Then again I have no idea what the trophy is for but Frank is awesome and should win everything.
  9. VHL Prospect Scouting Report Name: Guntis Gavilrovs Position: Defense Birthplace: Ogre, Latvia Height: 6'8" Weight: 250 VHLM Draft: 12th Overall - Houston Bulls VHLE Draft: 3rd Overall Stockholm Vikings VHL Draft: 7th Overall - Vancouver Wolves VHLM Stats: GP: 72 - G: 27 - A: 43 - P: 70 - PIM: 44 - HIT: 187 - SB: 79 VHLE Stats: GP: 72 - G: 17 - A: 61- P: 78 - PIM: 204 - HIT: 295 - SB: 184 Guntis Gavilrovs is a monster defenseman who is about to make his VHL debut for the Vancouver Wolves in season 93. After putting together a phenomenal minor league career in Houston and Stockholm there is a ton of hype and expectations surrounding the behemoth blueliner when he hits the ice for Vancouver in S93. Minor League Career: Gavilrovs started his minor league career in Houston in the VHLM after being drafted 12th overall in Season 91. He quickly became a fan favorite with his play style, throwing thunderous checks and hammering home slapshot goals from the blue line. The goal in his first season was to make a name for himself with his elite physical shutdown play, which he did, but his offense game developed much quicker than everyone expected. Gavilrovs lead the VHLM in goals by a defenseman with 27 in S91 and racked up 70 points in the process along with 187 hits and 78 blocks. An exceptional season for the big Latvian as he was one of the top defenseman in the entire VHLM and prospective GM's in the next level VHLE took notice. Guntis was then drafted 3rd overall in the Season 92 VHLE draft to the Stockholm Vikings, who obviously were impressed with his play in the VHLM and knew they had to get him to lead their blue line. Gavilrovs not only led their blue line but he led the entire league in numerous categories while helping Stockholm to a strong season and 3rd place finish. Gavilrovs led all defenseman in points with an incredible 78 and the entire league in assists with 61. He also led the league in hits with 295, penalty minutes with 204 and was among the top in shots blocked with 184. Once again he was a physical force while adding high offense, which surprised even himself, but no question he has the offensive game to compliment his elite shutdown capabilities. Strengths: Checking: Hitting is definitely the strength of Gavilrovs game, he uses his size to absolutely obliterate opponents and is a beast in the corners as well as in front of the net. Racking up 482 hits during his 144 game minor league career there's no question he has an elite physical game. Goals/Assists: Yes both have quickly become a strength of his game, he's already led an entire league in assists last season with 61 and then goals for a defenseman the previous season with 27. Posting 148 points from the blue line over 2 seasons there's no question this has become a strength of his developing game. Toughness: Gavilrovs is one tough customer evident by his league leading penalty minutes, 204 last season in the VHLE Weakness: We couldn't find any. Future VHL Outlook: Gavilrovs joins Vancouer this season in the pros and we can expect a strong physical performance by the former 7th overall selection. The big rookie defenseman will be in the top 4 and definitely throw his weight around making the Wolves very hard to play against every night. With higher talented competition and being further down on the depth chart we don't expect high offense in his first couple VHL seasons but he's surprised us before so we're not counting him out. With a focus on defense and physicality early on, moving to offense later in his career there's no question Guntis Gavilrovs has what it takes to become one of the best all around defenseman in the VHL one day and will certainly be in consideration for top defensive defenseman in his peak years, maybe more. There's a lot to like about his hulking VHL rookie defenseman and we expect him to have a major impact for the Vancouver Wolves not only in his rookie season but during his entire career in the VHL.
  10. Lets' GO!! Great article, going to be a fun season!
  11. I'd have some interest in this if you need more people, not sure my gfx skills are up to par though..
  12. So I have no idea if there's any kind of awards in the VHLE, but if there's a defenseman of the year trophy I think Guntis Gavilrovs deserves to be a front runner for it. The big Latvian blueliner had an absolutely huge season, leading the entire league in assists, hits and pims as well as all defenseman in points. He also ranked near the top in blocked shots, blueliner goals and finished 8th overall in league scoring. Just a monster performance and some really impressive numbers all around. He helped Stockholm to great season finishing 3rd overall and a strong playoff run losing to the eventual champs. I think most people would be impressed by Gavilrovs performance on the blue line this season and would support him for any kind of Defenseman of the year award. Other defenseman deserving recognition would be Vlad Von Carstein, Darko Alexander Malkovich, Joseph Dubois and Sunset Moth who all had great seasons of their own and I have a ton of respect for. Whatever happens it would be fun to see Gavilrovs get some hardware before he moves onto the VHL where it will likely take him at least a few seasons to be in consideration for any VHL awards. Also with it being off-season I couldn't think of anything else to write about, lol, so yes I'm shamelessly plugging myself!
  13. 1. I was happy to see some of our guys win the cup in Bratislava, it just means we have that much more experience to help us win the cup with Vancouver! 2. Without question Logan Ninefingers partied the hardest, he's huge and can consume a ton of alcohol. 3. Bummer for DBIV who is one heck of a player and my teammate from the VHLM in Houston, but still good to get a deep playoff run and that experience. 4. I always enjoy it more when I play against friends, the win just feels better and you can talk shit later. 5. Can't check a guy through the glass unless you go for the hit! 6. Last season in the VHLE Ninefingers and I were hoping to have a friendly tilt, would have been fun but never happened and now thankfully never will
  14. It was a fun season for formerly hated rivals Guntis Gavilrovs and Logan Ninefingers in the VHLE this season, the two monsters battled all year long on and off the ice but eventually Ninefingers won out by hoisting the cup with the Bratislava Watchmen. Ninefingers had a great playoffs and beat Gavirovs's Vikings head to head in their match up so Guntis has nothing to do but salute him with respect. Guntis may have won the regular season with an all-world stat performance but Ninefingers lit it up also and won the post-season so he gets the ultimate W in this rivalry. Gavilrovs has nothing but respect for his now beloved teammate in Vancouver and was happy the two could spice things up in VHLE media this season. Ninefingers took all Gav's comments in stride, even when he remarked on his looks and threatened to check into the stands. The guy is pure class and Gav is thrilled to be taking the ice with him and the other great VHL rookies in Vancouver this season! Gavilrovs would also like to take this opportunity to thank his GM's and teammates in Stockholm this past season. He really loved playing for the Vikings, great people and management there as well as an awesome fanbase. Guntis hopes he made good on his lofty 3rd overall draft position for them and has a lot of great memories from this season. The team had a very strong year as well, finishing 3rd overall in the standings and putting forth a great effort in the post-season against the eventual champs. Guntis wishes everyone in Stockholm the best as he now looks forward to going pro with Vancouver this coming season.
  15. Congrats on a well-earned cup for Ninefingers! Can't wait to get out on the ice with you and the rest of the crew in Vancouver this season!
