    1. I did take part even though I have no idea what I'm doing. That said I'd be happy with 1 right!

    2. I think he should be because he's a fantastic GM and made excellent moves not only to get deep into playoffs but also set us up to be even stronger in the future.

    3. I don't think anyone would be surprised if Gavilrovs wins every award. I mean let's face it, the guy is legit.

    4. Geeze you're going to make me look at the trades.. ok I think the one we made was the best, because we are the best, that's obvious.

    5. No way, the Moscow Meanies got lucky, it could happen to anyone. I think they will not be back next season, but all kidding aside was nice to see Spartan win one, he works hard in the league.

    6. I think if GM's aren't paying attention to everything other teams are doing they are doing themselves a disservice. Gotta be on point with everything all the time. No days off.

Girts got a reaction from Smarch in Gavilrovs Gearing Up
Big Latvian defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs just completed his 2nd season in the VHL and is gearing up for a big 3rd season! Currently he is being extremely mean to his opponents in the S94 World Championships playing for Eastern Europe, he had 24 hits in the first 4 games and a fight. I can't tell what his final round robin stats were because it switched to the medal round index but he probably had 40+ hits in the round robin and at least a few points. He's a beast. Heading into his 3rd season experts are expecting a nice step in his offensive production as he will have a little more responsibility as the #2 Dman on Vancouver with Liv Slater moving to forward. Gavilrovs was on pair 1 last season with Mark Calaway and played a mean physical came as he chipped in 10 goals and 49 points. We expect that number to jump to over 60 points this season with his usual 250+ hits and hopefully he approaches 200 blocks. Looking ahead we believe in S96 Gavilrovs will have his major breakout offensively as the #1 Dman in Vancouver and be in the running for personal awards and of course help lead Vancouver to the Cup! The Wolves have a strong roster again this coming season and other teams should be very worried when playing against them.

I don't know why but I was thinking earlier this week about the time I was working with a few other SHLers way back when in designing a new startup league. It was before I joined the VHL, back when this league had the reputation of being a bunch of elitist gatekeepers, so I was interested in making a league, a leagueovus for the restovus, if you will. If I recall correctly, OrbitingDeath was involved in that process, and I know the infamous Fernando was as well, which was the reason the project died. Also, quick shoutout to OD once again for sponsoring my short story at the Holiday Charity auction a few years back. I still really like that story.

Anyway, one of the league concepts I was most interested in trying to figure out was a way to incorporate European Football-style relegation, and it's still a concept that intrigues me. Obviously doing it in an established league like the VHL is impossible, but as a startup, the idea of having two leagues of 6 teams each, and they shuffle up and down, vying for promotion to the top league and then the league title... it just sounds super cool to me. In this hypothetical, I always imagined having the draft picks go across the leagues, so it would be 1-12 in reverse standings order, but maybe the teams in the lower league would pick 1-6 and then again 7-12 before the top league teams had a chance to pick. I don't know, and I guess it's irrelevant because it'll never happen.

But the point of me writing this is to ask you all, during a rather long offseason: if you could incorporate one new rule, one new structure, to the VHL, what would you do, and why?

    Busy off-season for some!!

With the off season in full swing some teams have been busy pulling off huge trades, re-signing players and generally trying to figure out their future outlook. Players are either training or getting ready for different international tournaments. While others sit around at the beach or in cool dark AC filled rooms wondering when training camp will actually start and if anyone will notice if they don`t show up; at least in shape!! Ugh, off season continues ……

    1.     VHL Awards should be handed out by the end of next week; Did you take part in the Predictions and how many do you think you managed to get right?

    2.     Frank made a ton of moves last season to improve the team but in the end it wasn`t enough but do you think he will be up for the David Knight Trophy? Why or why not?

    3.     Think ahead to the awards do you think any of the awards winners might surprise you or others? Which trophy and why?

    4.     Sixteen total trades as I write this question; Which trade stands out the most and why? Or I am not paying attention like most of the GM in the league!!

    5.     Moscow Menace have rebuilt their Championship team as the most active team in the trade market; Do you think they have improved their team and have a chance at repeating or have they cut too deeply and will resemble a burning dumpster? Explain?

    6.     Moscow Menace now have 4 (four) first round picks in S96; Do you think other GM even pay attention to what other teams have or are trading to other teams? Why or why not?

    7.     Bonus: What is the difference between a bad pizza joke and a good pizza joke?

    Team trading Moscow First rounders!!

Next season's best team in the league the Vancouver Wolves just made three major call ups! They promoted superstar forward Pierre Marc Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito who obliterated the VHLE last season for Bratislava to the tune of 43 goals, 62 assists for 105 points and took a measly 470 shots.. Jesus Christ this guy is good! Can't wait to see "PMB" in Vancouver this coming season as he's my pick for rookie of the year! The second gigantic call up is uber-skilled defenseman Bollos de Trueno @Thunder who dominated the VHLE last season in Bratislava with 22 goals, 57 assists, for 79 points and had nearly 200 blocks! My god this guy can do it all and is going to immediately have a major impact on the Wolves blue line this season! There's also rumors that Rip Wheeler's wife has the hots for him, but we can't confirm or deny those at this time. The third call up is a player who's so good he only needs one name, Soju @Frank the elite netminder who posted fantastic numbers for Cologne last season in the VHLE with 41 Wins in 64 appearances, a 2.40 GAA and an impressive .926 SV% along with 4 shutouts! He followed that up with a ridiculous playoff performance posting a miniscule 1.63 GAA and an eye-popping .945 SV% including 3 shutouts and 8 wins in 12 games as he led his team to the championship in game 7 against the aforementioned Bratislava. Vancouver is absolutely loaded with young talent and this trio is going to be a major boost to the young core already in place. Can't wait to see all these S95 rookies in action!
