  2. 1. Recently, you were taken #11 overall in the VHL Entry Draft by Moscow. Tell us why you should have been at least #10. 1. With all the hype surrounding the draft, I was really hoping to go in the first round. Unfortunately, I had to wait one more pick but I'm thankful none the less. 2. The Menace have been projected to be, well, not that good, and so far their games have reflected that. Do you think the team is right for you? 2. It'll certainly be hard. I'm a guy who likes to win and it appears I'll have to be patient for that day to come. 3. What are your thoughts on the rivalry that seems to be brewing with Malmo? 3. I think it's a healthy part of the league and there's nothing wrong with a little bad blood makes it all the more interesting. 4. Jerry Garcia recently scored his first career VHL goal against you, and some in Houston have speculated that it's because he knows your tendencies, having played with you for a year. What do you know about him that might help you shut him down in the future? 4. The only tendency I have is letting a former teammate put one in when we're being blown out. It's one and done. I just wanted to be there for the first to congratulate him. But now we'll see how lucky he gets 5. Have you met Putin yet? If so, what was he like? He's really into anime. He told me his favorite was Cory in the House. Weird to pick a live action adaptation but atleast he's an ass man. Everyone knows animated booty sits a little high on Cory, ya feel? 6. You've applied for a few league jobs in the past season, but haven't been hired yet. Tell us why you should be hired the next time you throw out an application. 6. I feel like I'm dedicated to this league and think it has a lot of potential. I definitely want to be a part of it going forward. I hope the day comes when I can be a popular face around the league. I feel if given the chance I could build a real dynasty.
  3. The young goaltender is open to questions
  4. Hello all, it's a brand new season. Since I did not see a team press conference, I went and made one. Answer All 6 Questions For 2 TPE 1. With a new season comes hope! What are your expectations for the 66th season of the VHL. 2. What is a personal goal you'd like to achieve this year? 3. What is a team goal you'd like to see the boys accomplish? 4. Share an experience you've had with the folks from Moscow, what are some similarities and differences? 5. If your new to the team, what excited you the most when you were drafted/traded or signed to Moscow? If you're not new, is there someone who's new to the squad you're interested in playing with? 6. If you could pick a goal song for the Menace, what would it be and why?
  5. From the Players Tribune TMTMTMTMTMTMTMTMTMTTMTMTMTMTMTMTMTTMTMTMTMTTMTMTMTM (so much trademark, so many royalties) By Owen May Draft day gives me such excitement and anxiety. Many other players will be enjoying the passing hours while I chew through my fingernails watching from my Houston home. It's not that I'm worried I won't be picked or I'll be drafted to a team I won't like. But as I sit here I feel sick to my stomach. Multiple mock drafts have me going to multiple locations. Not know where I'll be in a few days makes me anxious. I hope that I can make a meaningful impact wherever I end up. I think my anxiety comes from trying to live up to the hype that has been put on my name. I hope that I will become a league leader in a couple years and be considered a steal no matter what pick I'm drafted. But I digress, as the hours pass I sit here with my cheese doodles, dog and wife awaiting my name to get called. I wish everyone the best and hope that we'll be able to compete soon in the VHL.
  6. We are just a couple of days out from the VHL draft. Nerves set in for everyone involved. The GM's nervous and pressured to make the correct pick. The players nervous to find out where they land and if they're drafted to a contender or a rebuilder. It can be argued that the goaltender has to face the most stress however. A goaltender drafted to a defensively week team can lead to detrimental physical abuse. Too many shots and too many goals can also leave a goaltender weak mentally. We've seen it before, a goalie gets over used in the regular season and then disappears come playoffs. Constant exposure can lead to a faster decline for most goaltenders. However, if the said goaltender is drafted to a defense first mentality team, the results can be drastically different. Being able to find your game at the higher professional levels takes time. Especially for one and done prospects in the NHL and VHL. Spending one season in the minors forces teams and players to get it right come draft day. Can a player who struggled in the minors succeed in the majors? Can a player who performed well on a good team play well for a rebuilder? Time will tell. With so many budding stars in this year's draft it will be difficult to tell which will be steals and which will be busts. We sat down with Owen May, future VHL goaltender and asked him of the pressure he feels for the upcoming draft. " Obviously I'm a little worried. I really want to make a good first impression and I'm not sure if I'm completely prepared for the VHL. But it's my time to move on to bigger things and be a part of a bigger cause. I wanna be the best goaltender in the league, will that happen the first year? No. Will it happen in the next five? I'm not sure. So I just want to be on a team that's competitve on the ice and fun off the ice. I feel as long as I'm comfortable with my situation I can do some great things between the pipes this season. I just hope that wherever I land that the team is happy with me and welcomes me." When asked what he would do if he was given the reigns to a VHL franchise at the S66 draft, May laughed and responded accordingly, "I'd have to take myself first overall now wouldn't I? (laughs). In reality, I'd be looking for a talented forward and defenseman to be the cornerstone of my franchise. I think Riga has a very interesting situation on their hands with three first round picks and five total picks in the first twenty selections. This draft is so deep, I can't imagine they don't pick some great players. I think if they play their cards right in each round they'll be a dynasty. Key word there is right. If you don't use those picks wisely, everything kinda gets nipped in the bud."
  7. 1-If you got stuck in the elevator and was forced to listen to only one song, which would it be? The Symphony No. 3 by Gustav Mahler Longest classical song ever, hopefully it would keep me from going crazy. 4-If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Paris, It's a beautiful city and gives me an oppritunity to watch some professional football. Malmo or Stockholm would be cool to so I could watch football and hockey, I also have friends in Sweden that I haven't seen since high school 8-How do you relax after a hard day of work? Usually video games, I prefer something light. Ive been playing double dash lately. 10-If you could keep any animal as a pet, what would you choose? I like cats, I also like penguins but they're real messy. So cats will do. 11-Where do you think you are going in the draft (round and team) I think I'll fall to the Moscow Menace in the third round. 25th overall. 12-Who do you hope comes to your new team with you? Either aleks or Gustav. Fun guys in the locker room who have a nice work ethic
  8. The life of a goalie is unforgiving. It's a position where you live and die by the stitching on your glove. If you make a key save in a crucial moment of the game, you're a hero. If you make one mistake, you're burned at stake. There is rarely a time where a goaltender is neither beloved nor hated. So why is it worth the abuse, both physical and mental? Some do it because they had no choice but to become goaltenders and some do it to achieve glory. However, there's a more simple explanation for most goaltenders... They're crazy. Many goalies see themselves as not quite right in the head and former Houston Bull, Owen May is no different. " I think, at least for myself, that every goalie likes to be the anti-hero. I still want to be loved by the home fans but I want to be booed when I step on to the ice in opposing arenas. I like getting under the skin of attackers by making saves when they think they've scored and always chirp a little to rub salt in the wound. Sure when things go bad they go bad. That chirping comes the other way and that's fine. Because at the end of the day it's all in good fun. I go out to eat after games with a lot of they guys I chirped at." When things go bad they go bad? Well, May has had a taste of that this season with his streaky Houston Bull teammates. Losing and winning streaks gave May a good taste of being the chirper and the chirpee. What did May think of his season? Pitiful to say the least, but quite enjoyable. "When I packed up my bags and went to Houston, I was nervous I wouldn't fit in and wouldn't be of any use of the team. While I wasn't as good as I wanted to be, nowhere close, I think the team was thankful to have me. The locker room was welcoming and honestly the best I could have ever asked for. The guys really helped bring me to speed fast and answered any questions I had. They were all some characters but I think they're the reason I'm still in this league. From top to bottom they were all invested and I got a taste of what the world of pro hockey was like. I can't think of a better start to my career emotionally. Result wise it was just poor. I couldn't find my groove and littered the ice with inconsistent play. My lack of results shows in the award voting, not playing a game in the WJC and not getting a sponsorship. There are very few opportunities for goaltenders in this league and being a subpar minors goalie doesn't turn any heads. I think once I get an offseason under my belt and more time working with my VHL coaches, I'll be able to produce more beneficial results for my side. " With the draft on the horizon, many expect May to be the first goaltender off the board thanks to his work ethic. We will see what the future holds.
  9. Is it really surprising? Owen May finished 3rd in all aspects of his first season in the VHLM. The Houston Bulls finished third this season in the standings. The Bulls finished 3rd/4th in the playoffs and May finished 3rd in the award race for best goaltender. May had some shows of brilliance but was unable to keep a steady pace as he jumped around in save percentage. A top-heavy defensive core often gave up few attempts but gave up quality attempts as May struggled with opportunities from high danger situations. May was able to record a few shutouts thanks to the defensive effort put in front of him. As the Bulls moved into the playoffs they faced off against Halifax, May kept them in games but could not give his team a series win as they fell in seven games to their hated rivals. Despite poor results, May finished third in the top VHLM Goaltender voting. The only bright side is that it appears May will be the first goaltender off the board
  10. As a former Bull and active member on this site, I think I'd be the best candidate. Promote from within. Ill bring @aleks along with me as my agm. We'll conquer the world

  13. Owen May the young goaltender from Buffalo, New York has finished his first professional season in the VHL. May had a rough go of things personally but was able to enjoy some team success. The Houston Bulls finished third in the standings behind Halifax and Minnesota. May posted a 41-26-5 record which in regards is a decent season. However May had a save percentage of .882 and a goals against average of 2.99. Not stellar numbers from the young net minder. It appears May plans to stay one more season down in the VHLM before moving up to the VHL, despite being a high draft pick. May has been contacted by the Malmo Knighthawks, and many pundits have been positioning him to fall to Malmo in the first round. "I'm disappointed that we couldn't get it done here in Houston, but I hope I can be back next year to grab the title for the boys. For now, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the draft and wait for my name. Obviously, Malmo has been rumored to pick me up and I think the interest is mutual. I've done well on expansion teams haha so why not another, eh? Also being the first draft pick in team history is pretty exciting."
  14. So I've been thinking about a possible implementation of the NHL Sim. I think this would help create more suspense for the playoffs because then we could all watch as our teams play and gives us something over other sim leagues I think it would be easier than people think it would. Also, I believe that EA sims are more forgiving to goalies ;). So here are some ideas: 1. TPE Conversion So the main issue for everyone is how TPE would be transferred to in game stats. So I believe that each TPE put into the category will count as 1 overall point in the statistical category. This would not change that once you hit 70 in a catergory the TPE cost goes up. Skaters- Checking- Aggressiveness, Body Checking Fighting- Fighting Skill Strength- Strength,Durability, Slapshot, Wristshot Power Skating- All Skating categories Puckhandling- Deking, Puck Control FO- Faceoffs Passing- Off. Awareness Passing Scoring- Handeye, Defense- Def.Awareness, Shot blocking, Stick Checking Penalty Shot- No idea yet Leadership- Poise Discipline- Discipline Goalies- Skating- Speed, Vision, Size- Durability, Aggressiveness Agility- Agility, Endurance RB- Rebound Control, Angles Style Control- Vision, Pokecheck, Breakaway Hand Speed- Glove, Stick H/L Reaction Time- Recover, 5 Hole Penalty Shot- Puck Playing Freq, Passing Leadership- Poise 2. How the SIMS would work? Every Tuesday, each team will play two games as has been done this past season. Lines and updates are to be submitted by midnight on Sunday to be counted for the games. Monday will give whoever is in charge (pick me) to implement all the updates. Then due to time restraints the regular season will be simmed in 4 minute periods. Then in the playoffs, Games (depending on vote anywhere to short-medium-long) will be played out in real time in broadcast view on twitch. All games will be uploaded to youtube for video proof. All teams will have 4 lines, generic players capped at a certain overall will replace any vacancies. 3. Will you be able to customize your character? No. Everyone is generic minus the name and number and handiness. Since size doesn't do much in the sim setting everyone to an agreed upon weight and height may be a good thing. However if we are to use our actual values that's possible. 4. Will the VHLM Participate? Most likely no, they'd use the Sim Engine. Unless someone were to offer help 5. Will Teams Be Able to Make their own Jerseys? 100% Yes. I will sit down and create jerseys with GMs during off season so that each team feels real 6. Wouldn't that be time consuming? Yes, but not incredibly for me. 7. What if a new NHL provides different stats? No problemo, NHL has been relatively the same attribute wise through the past games. We can adjust accordingly? 8. This probably won't be accepted in the VHL, would you consider a separate league? Depends on interest These are all vague ideas but I think it's very doable especially because there are only ten teams in the league. The offseason would be brutal but once I have everything set up it would be fairly easy for me. Let me know what you think, if you think I'm crazy or if this is something you'd be interested in doing.
  15. What VHL team logo do you like best? Malmo What VHLM team do you want to be drafted by? Houston Is your player a blonde, brunette or redhead? Burnette Weirdest thing in your hockey bag? 17. The playoffs are nearing their end and the draft looms over the horizon. To make it even crazier an expansion team has been introduced into the mix. So what would you do if granted a new franchise in today's league? Many speculate that Owen May will be the first Knighthawk draft pick in the teams history. The goaltender has had a shaky start to his VHLM career but has found himself comfortable with the inaugural season with the Houston Bulls. May has become one of the more sought after goaltenders due to the effort he puts into practicing. Many of May's teammates have been quik to offer positive support to the young man. But all good things must come to an end as the VHL comes calling, with Malmo eyeing up the young man. Would May be able to lead Malmo to the playoffs the first season? Most likely not. I can't imagine May will be ready for the transition to the VHL sitting at 199 TPE. However does it make some sense? May has been a hard worker and will most likely keep with the league. Within a few seasons May could find himself in conversation for All-Star. However the question remains, would you spend a 1st on him? Goaltenders in the first round of the NHL often end up busts. Looking at you DiPetro. Is the VHL different? But obviously I'm interested in the draft and can't wait to see the mayhem that occurs. So the next question is, is May's time better spent down in the VHLM or in the VHL? Currently May, sits at 199 TPE. A tricky gray area for goaltenders. It could be argued that, Malmo or the team that does eventually draft him, will rush his development by calling him up to the VHL. However it can also be argued that playing time could result in substantial growth for the young man. Malmo may also not want May with such a highly offensive draft depth. And may decide depending on the expansion draft if they want to make a playoff push with an older goaltender. Or Malmo may try to get a large amount of young players who have worked hard through the years in order to build a juggernaut for the future. Or will Malmo find the magic that the Vegas Golden Knights did in the NHL and finding a perfect mix of veterans and youth that found its way to the cup finals in its first year. May has been quik to acknowledge his teammates effort and believes that they should be selected in front of him. May had been expecting to fall to the 3rd or 4th round of the draft. He has been flabbergasted to see mock drafts picking him in the first round. " I'm really humbled by the experience, it's been nice to be wanted. I'll definitely miss the place that was so nice to me and showed me the ropes. They're so many great players and teammates on this Houston roster that it makes me wanna cry that I'll have to leave them. I'd be very grateful to be drafted by Malmo or any other VHL team. I'd like to be a household name."
  18. There comes a time in everybody's life where they hit a wall and fail to live up to their full potential. As of late May, has struggled with improving himself. A batch of depression has resulted in sub par results as the Bulls make a playoff push. May has been open with his struggles. "Its hard to believe that I'm ready for the vhl when I'm giving up 9 in two games. I just haven't been able to see the puck like I have in previous games." (Reporter): You've seemed off the past couple of days is there something that's put you off your game? "Well I've been suffering from depression for a couple years and right now it's got the best of me. It's been hard to wake up and talk to the media. Practice seems like tedious work. Its just one of those processes you have to work through and accept. I hope that days get brighter and I can return to form."
