  1. If I were to be commish for a day I’d focus on two additions; relocations/expansions and new records. The first one applies to the VHLE and the VHLM while the second focuses on the league as a whole. None of this will ever happen of course cause I refuse to do more than one media spot a season. This will not change so buyer beware on drafting me in the first round. Relocation/Expansion The first half, relocation, will involve the VHLE. Since the idea around the VHLE is to represent the European men's leagues in real life, at least I think it is, then the teams should match those locations. The leagues I’ll be using are the KHL, SHL, LIIGA, NLA, DEL, ICE, Extraliga, and Slovak Extraliga. In this case will let Stockholm, Geneva, Bratislava, and Cologne remain in their locations. Vasteras, Rome, Istanbul, and Oslo will have to move to a new town. To represent LIIGA I’ll send Vasteras over to Turku to revive the outlaws. They will play in the Gatorade Center just outside Turku. Sorry to all the Vasteras fans. To represent the KHL I’ll be moving Istanbul to St. Petersburg where they’ll be playing in the Ice Palace, same as SKA St. Petersburg. Namewise I don’t have any good ideas yet, maybe the onions (Though that is the wrong city). For the Extraliga I’ll move Oslo down to Brno. For the name I was thinking Royals since Brno sounds like Bern, not my best work. They’ll play in Winning Group Arena, let's hope they live up to that name. Since I’m going over the arenas I’ll add that each team will have their own arena and can change the name at will. Finally, for the ICE I’ll move Rome to Vienna. They can be the Fingers. They’ll play in the Erste Bank Arena. That’ll finish up the VHLE section. The other expansion I want to make is to return the VHLM to 12 teams. To do this I’ll add a team in New York but call them the New Amsterdam Tijgers #BringBackTheTijgers. For the west, I’ll give a team to Denver, call them the Ruffaloes. It feels weird having the VHLM not be twelve teams. Records Some of these are just additions I want to be added to the portal now and others are fun suggestions. On the “This needs to be added ASAP” side we’ve got VHLE Awards. The only award any of my players has won is a VHLE Award and I want to see that on the portal. This would also help legitimize the league as it would have a dedicated spot in the HOF. Along with that would be adding a VHLE option to career statistics, single season, etc. On the “Fun Suggestions” side I’d like to see a counter for the most wins of an award. I.E. the Kanou would have a sentence below the award description saying that Rayz Funk is the leader in Kanou wins with 4. This would create a quick way for new players to learn about some of the greats from before their time. It could also lead to a once-every-20-seasons or so vote to see if the awards name should be changed to better reflect who represents it best; I.E. the Duncan Idaho Trophy instead of the Boulet. If any of these changes were to come into effect I’d rather it be the VHLE awards one. I want to have a visible trophy case since none of my players will ever have a major trophy at this rate. 4. If one takes a look back at the first few seasons of the VHL it's nearly unrecognizable to the one we know now. Only two teams, Calgary and Toronto, have the same name, and only they and two others, Seattle and Helsinki, have the same location. But what about the places that have been left behind? What’s happened to those arenas and what does the surrounding area look like? Hamilton Canucks Unless they bothered to check the franchise visualizer, newer members may not know that the New York Americans originated from the Toronto suburb turned into a city, Hamilton. While they weren’t there for long, lasting only 6 seasons, and they had little success, failing to make the cup finals and only making the playoffs once, they still left an impact on the surrounding area. The immediate surroundings grew into a bustling shopping district and provided a significant boost to the local economy. When the team moved the arena went dormant for a few years before being remodeled into a theater. The David Night Theatre for the Performing Arts now hosts several shows with their most famous being a 30-year-running rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar, based on the life of the titular GM. The fans in the area have not lost their love for the sport and while some still cheer for the Americans, others, often younger fans, have taken a liking to the Mississauga Hounds just a short drive north. At least they’ve made a final recently. Amstel Tijgers Who? That’s probably the question most reading this will have when they see that name, along with where the hell is “Amstel” and how long did they last. The answer is one season. That’s right, one season in the VHL before moving to Avangard. Why? There could be a few reasons. One, they didn’t have much success. This is true but not exactly a great justification for the relocation given that one season is a microscopic sample size. Two, they just didn’t have the fans. While Amsterdam, where the team was, isn’t a traditional hockey market that can’t be the case. We have a team in Istanbul and I’m sure their a smaller market than Amsterdam for hockey. Three, my idea. They wanted to build a stadium that incorporated the Amstel River, their namesake, but couldn’t get the funding and they had no other ideas. Since they likely played in a small barn to save money for this endeavor, the plan falling through made sticking in Amsterdam undesirable for the team and they moved somewhere that could properly house them. But what could’ve been? We certainly don’t get Davos if they move which means Victor has nowhere to threaten to send people to. If they maybe last more than a season they could’ve become a member of the VHLE since aside from them and Avangard, the other Davos intermediate, every defunct VHL team from Europe has returned in some fashion. Did I know when this was happening? No. Am I mad? Slightly. It’d be fun to see hockey return to the Netherlands. Maybe if the user count increases it could. #BringBackTheTijgers
