Hey, me too! My dad started the Stormlight Archive last November, and I mentioned I waned to read that series as well. For my birthday in February, he sent me the first three (full-length) books. We're reading them together, and we're currently on Oathbringer.

I'm just now (finally) getting myself out of a reading slump--I felt like every book I read for a while was extremely average. I think The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas and What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez may have saved me, so I'm trying to keep my good streak up now.

I've been doing this as well, and I really enjoy it. I read really slowly, so I like being able to put an audiobook at 3x speed and read at a faster pace. I also like being able to listen to a book while I'm doing various tasks, whether it be making dinner, running errands, or crocheting Audiobooks ftw

I haven’t finished the series, got distracted halfway through book 3, but I will say the action definitely picks up A LOT after the first 3/4 of book 1. It has much more “under the mountain” energy from this point which is good.

I just started the fourth book of the Wheel of Time series.  I read the first couple books years ago when they originally came out and never finished the series.  Thought I would go back and read them.  In 2023 I read the prequel and the first 3.  Hopefully I will get a chance to o through most of the remainder in 2024.

It's fun seeing this thread pop up every now and then. Scurvy's new player inspired me to read some Abercrombie, I only read The Blade Itself back at middle school, but remembered Ninefingers 'cause he's a badass. I read it again, continued with Before They Are Hanged (then read three unrelated short books by Miroslav Žemlička) and now I'm getting close to finishing Last Argument of Kings. It's fun

A month behind but I recently finished How The World Really Works (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56587388-how-the-world-really-works) and really enjoyed the author, so I am in the middle of another of his, Numbers Don't Lie (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50705179-numbers-don-t-lie) which draws a few parallels, but is significantly easier to pick up and read for a bit.

I would like to read Dragon in Winter by Jonathan Mayberry.  It's book 3 of the series.  Pretty dark and full of action

Empire of the Damned - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/123200829-empire-of-the-damned

The Bad Weather Friend by Dean Koontz looks good too.

Started A Court of Thorns and Roses last night after TikTok bullied me for months to. My girlfriend didn't love it, but read the other series first and preferred that style more. About 100 pages deep so far and I can see why, I hear the first 3/4 of the first book are boooooring but I'll push through.

Got a pile of one of my favourite series from my childhood, the Redwall books. ~300 pages each, fun, simple adventures featuring wholesome woodland animals. What more could one ask for in some light reading!

One of my goals this year is to read some non-fiction. Thankfully I now have access to a vast collection of history and political science books that I can steal from, and maybe I'll find something that catches my attention.

Started reading the 40k Eisenhorn Omnibus, which starts with Xenos. I have no experience with 40k and received it as a gift. It is interesting. Like dark fantasy cyberpunk noir?

I’d like to see light restrictions applied to general areas or channels on the forum and discord.

For example, people have been in general chats (discord) talking badly about the league. This is a bad look for new members when they join the league. I do respect peoples opinions and don’t want to take that away but would rather redirect it into its own channel. The same goes on the forum.

Kaigen was a great book.  I have Babel on my shelf but have yet to get to it.    Kagen the Damned by Jonathan Mayberry was another 5 star for me in 2023.

    Full summary: https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2023/40616420

Top Book: Killers of the Flower Moon (randomly found an ARC from 2017 so that was neat)
    Worst Book: The Maid

    Other good reads:
    The Daevabad Trilogy
    Gentleman Bastards
    The Celestial Kingdom

Overall an underwhelming year of books for me. The Maid, Leave The World Behind, and The Big Four were particular disappointments.

Didn't read as much as I wanted to in 2023 as grad school kind of derailed a lot of my plans of reading for fun. I don't think I enjoyed any book this year as much as I did the books I read in 2022, but Player Piano and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo were probably my two favorites. Hoping to pick things back up in 2024.

Also I just created a StoryGraph account, not sure how much I'll use it but my username is s0las there if anyone wants to add me over there.

2023 was the first year since I was probably a young teen that I finished 3 books (I finished one yesterday but I'm counting it for 2023). Hoping to finish many more this year!

Recently a trip to the hospital and a few doctors appointments opened my eyes and i received a few diagnoses (nothing super serious i will live!!) but one of them was a thing called CHS, Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome. Basically for the last couple of months I’ve been having uncontrollable vommiting, sometimes up to 20-25 times a day and i finally have had enough. It got to the point I was calling into work, putting off important things because i couldn’t even function. I could barely eat or keep things down, I was taking multiple super hot baths and showers everyday as that is the only thing that would help the feeling go away.

I always thought it was something else, another underlying issue but all along it was the thing i used to chill out and relax, weed. Little did i know not only did i grow a dependency on it but it was slowly hurting me and it was just only gonna get worse and worse. I honestly at one point didn’t know if i would be able to make it one day without smoking as i was a really heavy smoker, multiple joints, bongs or thc carts to keep me “happy”.

I know it has only been 3 days but holy hell i can’t believe i haven’t touched it since. I know it’s super early but i just wanted to share my progress to hopefully inspire others to maybe quit or lean back. I know @Banackock has a thread documenting his journey from quitting cigarettes and it really inspired me to start my own journey and bring this awesome community along with me. I intend to stay sober and make better life choices moving forward and I can’t wait to show you all.

Cheers guys and here’s to being sober!

that's so fair, I'm a sucker for intricate world building, even when it's not directly always propelling the plot. which makes it easier for me to get through them

I've never read epic fantasy before because I struggle to get through the history and lore. But the way she writes it makes it so easy to digest and understand.
