  1. With the end of  Season 95 just around the corner, we found time to speak with VHL Calgary Wranglers player Miner vHLer @Rhynex Entertainment, whose team is currently fighting for the final playoff spot in the North American Conference.

Reporter: Hello Miner! Nice to see you again! You just had a rough stretch of games, getting into so many fights recently, what is happening out there?

Mv: Hello. Just doing my job and getting under the skin of some of the opposing teams' players. I think I'm doing a good job at maintaining my temper and helping my team win.

Reporter: Seven games left in Season 95, how do you want to finish the season?

Mv: That's a strange question. The team winning is the number one priority. As long as we can batch up a few more wins, we should have a nice time in the real season.

Reporter: Congratulations on your first career VHL game winner! Your shot percentage has taken a hit this season, what can you do to help your situation?

Mv: Thinking less and releasing my shot would help. There's not much I could do at this time, just got to shoot more.

Reporter: Thank you! Best of luck for the rest of the season!

    1. A few games left on the season. What's your biggest takeaway so far?

    2. Calgary's fighting for the playoffs, with a high probability of success. Still on the hunt for the 3rd position, but could be 6th. Where do you think the team will go?

    3. Playoff hockey is always different. Can the team adapt?

    4. Reports came out about management trying to bring in a more experienced goalie such as Merome Dilson or Karl Herzlich. How would that have impacted the team's season?

    5. After a couple of seasons on the outside, Calgary, one of the most storied franchises in the VHL could have the chance to bring the Continental home. Any words for the fans?

    6. Toilet paper; over or under?

  3. Season 95 VHL Theme Week - Rookies

Rookies. A term for players whom are in their first season in the league, in the VHL. And also a term I would say is the best time of a player's life. A player would always want to be a "Rookie" if you count the benefits that being a rookie comes with. Of course, there are a few disadvantages with being a rookie in the league, but simply being a Rookie can bring out the best of someone.

What is it like to be a Rookie? A rookie is someone who is new to the league, so not much is known about the person, the player. Yes, there are scouts and they try to do their jobs, but a rookie is an unknown, for the most parts. And that's where the benefits of being a Rookie comes into play.

The unknown is a spectacular thing. When it comes to Rookies, they pose a great threat to the league they enter. Untapped potential, courage beyond their age, fearlessness and the will to win, do their best and have fun. That's the advantage of being a Rookie. Not much could be said with the opposition, when you are faced with a rookie, you don't have a template or historical data to abuse and strategize. You get what you see and usually much less. The highlight reels that follow rookies are just the basic prime examples for players living their best lives by being the Rookie. As long as coaches and managers are smart and brave enough to give their Rookie free rein, lots of potential good could happen, or just a bunch of bad, but that's the risk of having a Rookie in the line up.

Back to why being a Rookie is a player's best time of their life. As a rookie, everything is new to you and those around you. Nobody knows what you can or cannot do, and likewise, you don't know what you could or could not do as well. It might feel very disheartening and stressful when things don't go as planned and don't go as well as you may have hoped when you are a rookie, but that just might be the results of having too high of an expectation. As a rookie, you just need to relax, work hard, have fun, and play your game. Don't let coach say otherwise. Just go out there and do your thing, but keep it simple, stupid. The basics. No pressure, just play the game. Let the game come to you. Nobody knows you better than yourself, and you don't even know yourself either. Just go out there and play.

The results? The Rookies who gets it, performs well, spectacular even. Just look at some Rookies towering the leader board at times. How about them Rookies who surprises the league and wins major individual awards in their rookie season? That is living the best life as a Rookie. The hard part is not being a Rookie, being the unknown is good. But when you are a known substance, that's when life gets tough. That's why we get the so called "Sophomore Slump"! But that's a story for another time. Here to all the Rookies. Live your life, enjoy the moment and shine!

  4. We are at the trade deadline in Season 95, we found time to speak with VHL Calgary Wranglers player Miner vHLer @Rhynex Entertainment, whose team is currently hanging on to a playoff wildcard spot.

Reporter: Hello Miner! Nice to see you again! The trade deadline if upon us, how do you feel your team is doing?

Mv: Hello. That's not for me to say. We're on a two game losing streak, so that doesn't feel too good, but we're right there. In it for a real battle to the end of the season. We need to keep at it and play up tempo.

Reporter: You've doubled your career penalty minutes in the VHL with your 4th fight of the season. You even  fought your ex-teammate and friend Chris Reynolds Jr. What's gotten to your game this season?

Mv: There are times when you need to pick up your team's energy level. I didn't beat up Chris so we're good. I'm not getting much done on the ice this season, so got to do it another way.

Reporter: What's the cause of your struggles this season?

Mv: The VHL is a tough league, just got to work on my game and try harder. Work harder. Lots of hockey to be played. Helping the team win is all that matters.

Reporter: Thank you! Best of luck for the rest of the season!

You've got to energize the team and crowd, and sometimes dropping the gloves does the trick. It's important for boosting moral and confidence.

Mv: It hasn't been an easy first half, there's still a good chuck of hockey to be played. I've got to work hard and hopefully it'll start showing up on the score sheet.

Reporter: Thank you! Best of luck for the rest of the season!

Reporter: Hello Miner! Nice to see you again! How was your first week of hockey in Season 95?

Mv: Hello. Honestly, it has been a rough start to the season. Not exactly the start I had imagined myself having. I've picked up my game a little bit towards the end of the week, but not a good enough effort.

Reporter: What are your plans to quickly turn around your game and not wander deeper into a sophomore slump?

Mv: I've got to work hard every shift, every game. And also extra hard during practice. There's a lot of hockey left, and a much larger amount of improving to do, but I need to get straight to it, and take it easy with my game. Keep it simple stupid and back to the basics.

Reporter: What are you planning to work on first?

Mv: I have a lot of areas for improvement. I need to complement my teammates better offensively and defensively. I have been a small liability this past week.

Reporter: What is your biggest priority heading into your sophomore season?

Mv: There's a lot of new skill and competition added to the team over the off season, so it's going to be a much tougher season to find play time. I need to improve my overall game and be a leader on and off the ice.

Reporter: What are your expectations going into Season 95?

Mv: I look to have a much better overall season in all aspects of my game. My playtime may be cut short, which could affect my production but I look to see improvements regardless of whether my play time is less or not.

Reporter: Thank you! Best of luck in the upcoming season!

Mv: Hello. It was a fun season. A bit of a disappointing end, but certainly a fun season to be a part of.

Reporter: What did you like best about your rookie season?

Mv: The learning experience and play time, for sure. It was wonderful playing with Catia (Goncalves) @cLoWn and Raimo (Tuominen) @SlapshotWrangler. Two of the best players I've ever played with!

Reporter: What do you plan to do during your off season? What are your expectations for next season?

Mv: It's a long road ahead. There's a lot of growth to be had. I plan to train and grow stronger, faster, better. Play and enjoy next season. They always say beware of Sophomore slump, but I say Sophomore bloom sounds better all day, any day!

Reporter: Thank you! Best of luck for your training and off season. We look forward to seeing you conquer your sophomore season!

    Miner vHLer Rookie Experience

Miner vHLer @Rhynex Entertainment was given a final decision, late surprise by GM @leandrofg right before the start of Season 94. A last minute call up by the Calgary Wranglers GM gave young and promising rookie winger Miner vHLer an early taste of the VHL. As a player who was deemed not ready for the VHL and 1 year from being 2 years away from being a stud for the VHL, the expectations coming into the VHL for Season 94 was wide open. Simply put, there was no expectations what so ever.

Miner vHLer finished Season 93 in the VHLE with the Oslo Storm, where he finished with an incredible 2 goals and 4 points in 82 games played, regular season and playoffs combined. A very (un)remarkable season, abide  winning the Renaissance Cup. With a starting TPA of 398, Miner vHLer may have been the lowest ranked skater heading into the VHL for Season 94. On top of that, at least 144 of the 398 TPE were allocated in skills in which most people say are "useless" skills and a waste of points. So with all this said and done, Miner vHLer could be said to be a super underdog and dark horse rookie in Season 94 of the VHL.

Miner vHLEr, while being a very raw prospect and rookie, is a very intelligent and discipline player. With given full reins to play and on top of that to do so with the teams best, the VHL of vHLer came out and shined. Playing on the top line for the Calgary Wranglers, Miner vHLer adapted quickly to the big league hockey of the VHL. Or at least, to the best of his capabilities. At 67 games, with only a few left to play in Season 94, Miner vHLer has achieved a better season than any seasons beforehand. So far, with 9 goals, 25 points and an impressive Plus 28, one could say Miner vHLer has been having a spectacular season given the circumstances and expectations. Add in to the equation, Miner vHLer is also shooting the puck at the most efficient ratio on the Calgary Wranglers, scoring 10.23% of all his shot attempts. Miner vHLer is also living up to his highly disciplined scouting report, having taken 0 minor penalties so far in Season 94, a very tough task given his player rating and how many minutes he plays (averaging 27.60 minutes played per game). All in all, it has been an incredibly successful season for Miner vHLer as he embarks in his journey to become a professional hockey player in the VHL, through taking baby steps and getting his feet wet in the big leagues one season earlier than expected.

  21. With the end of the Season 94 regular season just around the corner, we caught up with VHL Calgary Wranglers' prospect Miner vHLer @Rhynex Entertainment who is having his best season to date.

Reporter: Hello Miner! Nice to see you again! Your team is in their final push for the playoffs, how do you feel?

Mv: Hello. It's been great! We're in a bit of a tight spot right now, but we feel great in the locker room. Just need to play our game and get a little bit of help. We're right there with the big buys, it's been an exciting year!

Reporter: How do you feel about your game? What have you been working on?

Mv: It's been a tough and fun season. As well as I've played, I still lack the ability to contribute on a consistent level. I've been working on my skating and puck skills, but I'm still miles away from being where I need to be. Progress is slow.

Reporter: What is next on your to do list to improve your game?

Mv: It's a long road ahead. This season is a "get your foot in the water" type of season. We've played wonderfully and we'll only become better. It's a promising feeling. Just need to work on everything and keeping things to the basics.

Reporter: Thank you! Best of luck for the rest of the season!

  23. Theme Week Special "The VHLM" - Toughest league for winning

Ever since I've joint the VHLForum and this hockey league community, I've experienced the get together of a group of hockey fans experiencing the life of a professional hockey league player and management. For every new player, everyone builds toward the final goal, the grand stand of the top tier league, the VHL, however most forget the importance of the basics and the start. The importance of the VHLM.

The VHLM is the only league that every single new player will go through and experience. The VHLM is the only league where one would experience a beginning, and perhaps even an ending. As someone who is now with their third player, I have to say the VHLM has so far been the hardest league to win in for me. But wait, isn't the VHL the top tier league where all the best players play, where teams are very uneven and there are the most number of teams making it the hardest to win? Not necessary, since the VHL has no real player rating restrictions, it is very possible for there to be a couple teams that are much more outstanding than the rest of the competition, making it a bit easier to "win". The VHLE makes life even easier for victory given how small of a league they are. And then there's the VHLM. With a very quick and easily achievable player rating ceiling of 200, the VHLM is filled with maxed out players of equivalent standards making competition very ferocious and making victory a roll of the dice. This is of course, only my personal opinion formed from my personal experience from the life of my so far three players.

Let's not look at the VHLE, as the league is still very new and I am one for one in the VHLE with a Renaissance Cup through my first and only season with a player whom had played in the VHLE. Let's have a look at the VHL from since I've joint from Season 73. Through the life of Rhynex Entertainment, we saw a total of 5 champions in the 9 seasons between Season 73 to Season 81. Other than the S76 and S78 outliers of Chicago Phoenix and Warsaw Predators respectively, we literally had the same three teams rotating victories. If you were on any of the Seattle Bears, Malmo Nighthawks, or the Vancouver Wolves, you would have had a high chance of winning the cup. Add to the fact that each VHL player tend to have multiple seasons to facilitate a chance of winning the Continental Cup. But isn't it the same for the VHLM? You can stay behind and be part of a stacked 200 maxed rating team, and the same few teams are always winning the Founder's Cup. It is because every VHLM team could be the same stacked team, it really does become the luck of the draw on who will end up the winner each season. Not to mention most players graduate after one season or two max for the most parts. Going by my personal experience, I have played in the VHLM, through three players, five seasons. Ironically only two teams for the five seasons, but each time the team was stacked to the brim. I know how tough and ferocious the competition is in the VHLM, coming close but no cigar not once but twice in the five seasons. With all things considered, this is probably an unpopular choice and opinion, but I believe the VHLM is the toughest league to win, mainly due to the high competitive nature and restrictions of the league itself.
