  4. Welcome back to The Choice, as we look at a song that has been all over the place recently. Most people will tell you that it's a Bruno Mars piece. They're wrong. The credit for the song goes to a man named Ronson, and if you don't believe me, just watch. That's right, The Choice is taking on a song that peaked at number three on the charts here in the United States. Bruno Mars is taking us on a ride in Julio's stretch, but where to? We had three options this week. The Choices: Harlem, New York Harlem is a large neighborhood within the northern section of the New York City borough of Manhattan. Since the 1920s, Harlem has been known as a major African-American residential, cultural and business center. Originally a Dutch village, formally organized in 1658,it is named after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. Harlem's history has been defined by a series of economic boom-and-bust cycles, with significant population shifts accompanying each cycle Hollywood, California Hollywood is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. It is notable for its place as the home of the entertainment industry, including several of its historic studios. Its name has come to be a metonym for the motion picture industry of the United States. Hollywood is also a highly ethnically diverse, densely populated, economically diverse neighborhood and retail business district. Jackson, Mississippi Jackson is the capital and the largest city of the state of Mississippi. The city is located on the Pearl River, which drains into the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Jackson Prairie region of the state. Jackson is one of two county seats of Hinds County, with the city of Raymond being the other. What do the people of the VHL say? Harlem – Four votes Hollywood – Eleven votes Jackson, Mississippi – Five votes A pox on all your houses. The huge win by Hollywood makes sense, given that much of our population is non-American. Hollywood is well known around the world. What surprises me is the third place showing by Harlem, especially considering that second place went to the capital of Mississippi. However, there were no criteria given for the choice, and Harlem, you know, it's a scary place.
  5. George Patton Forward Hits +/- Choose a better font, Austin.
  6. A fair number of you received a message from me today, including an image presenting options and a request that you choose between them. This is what I hope will be the beginning of a new mainstay in this section, whenever I'm too lazy to write a full PT. The Choice. This week's choice had six options. Opportunities to improve oneself in a specific way, taking a little bit of bad with the good. The Choices: A Killer's Aim - You will be the master of all weapons, past, present, and future. - You will hit every shot you intend to hit, so long as the target is within sight. - You can no longer shoot to wound. Any shot you take will kill its target. A Hawk's Feather - You will gain the power of flight. - Your dexterity will be multiplied by twenty, your endurance by ten, and your strength by five. - You will be more cunning, swifter, and more clever. - Your wounds will heal at five times the normal rate. A Lion's Heart - Your strength will be multiplied by fifty, your agility and dexterity by ten, and your endurance by fifteen. - Your height will double and your weight will triple. - You will find yourself to be more courageous and brave. - Your wounds will heal at ten times the normal rate. - You will be more reckless and headstrong, increasing the likelihood of your leaping before thinking into a potentially precarious situation. A Dark God's Gift - You will be a master of plague magic and necromancy. - You will be immune to pain, and unable to die of old age. - Your body will not heal, and your sicknesses will not be healed. A Seeker's Curiosity - You will gain the powers of teleportation, divination, and precognition. - You will gain a natural instinct regarding the location of anything you wish. - Your precognition and intuition will be severely limited. Your intuition will not be infallible, and may lead you into precarious situations. Your precognition will give you only snapshots of larger events, leading you into similarly precarious situations. A Magi's Spark - You will gain dominion over fire, water, wind, and earth. - You may learn over time to combine your individual power to gain greater strength. - You will gain the powers of telekinesis and conjuring. - Unlike the others, your powers will be weak when you receive them, requiring practice and hard work to hone and increase them. So what did VHLers have to say? Let's go to the tape! Total votes: 23 A Hawk's Feather: 15 A Seeker's Curiosity: 3 A Magi's Spark: 2 A Lion's Heart: 2 A Dark God's Gift: 1 A Killer's Aim: 0 At least one point of consolation here: No would-be murdering sharpshooters.
  7. Nothing is missing by Yukon. Please fix Patton, though. He's making me cry.
  8. Venice of the North: THE NEST George “The General” Patton was a man on a mission. At least, he had been back on the 22nd of February, when we last heard from him. Now he was a man who was sort of tired of just standing around. That wasn’t the point, though. The point was that The General had a mission, and that the aforementioned mission had brought him to a medium-sized building in a fairly small city in Sweden. The city was Vasteras, the building was the ABB Arena Nord, former home of the Stockholm Vikings, known here as Vasteras IK and the Vasteras Iron Eagles. The building looked just as it had since the first season of Victory Hockey League play, over forty seasons ago. It had never been a particularly nice arena from the outside, and it wasn’t looking any better now. Closer inspection would have revealed that there was a broken window off to the side, but George “The General” Patton wasn’t paying all that much attention to the state of the windows. It was an unoccupied building, what was to be expected? The real surprise came once the lock was broken and The General and Cherry Baxter had gotten inside. The lights were flickering or off, shattered glass all over the floor. Doors were hanging off their hinges, and the hallways were full of scorch marks and debris? What could possibly have happened here to cause all this? The General continued on to find out. Once George “The General” Patton got out into the main sections of the area, things started to get really weird, and The General was very happy to have spent his time training in Havana, Cuba, future location of a brand-spankin'-new American embassy. The floor, once home to decent hockey, had a large crater in the center, and a slew of M's carved with a rapier (which is a kind of sword, not a person who does stuff to women against their will). It was, all in all, a mess. The General was very confused. Who could have done this to the medium-sized building in the fairly small city in Sweden? Who hated Vasteras hockey this much? It was, after all, just a hockey arena. And here there were birds in the rafters (but were they really birds? Only time will tell!) and craters in the floorboards. George Patton was still standing there and staring down when a man in a fancy blue costume appeared, rapier (still the sword) in one hand and a grenade in the other. “¡Viva el Trueno!” The shrill, accented voice of the man in the blue outfit rang out throughout the building, echoing and disturbing the birds. Then, without another sound, he pulled the pin with his sword and tossed the grenade up toward the rafters. The feathers floating down from above told George “The General” Patton that perhaps it was time to call in some reinforcements, and out came the cellular phone. Come back next week for… A BRAND NEW SERIES!
  9. Thanks to Jala for the incredibly short negotiations. I'm accepting another season of suckage, but S44 is going to be great. Like the Brooklyn Dodgers, you know?
