  3. Jeff Downey Returns Home for Offseason The season has now been over for a while and Jeff Downey has travelled home from a post season training program at the Vancouver Wolves practice facility to live with his parents over the offseason. We caught up with him this week on what life has been like for him on the family farm. ‘Absolutely nothing seems to have changed here.’ he chuckles, ‘My old man had me back working the fields as soon as I got back home. It doesn’t matter at all that I’ve made my some very good money with the Vancouver Wolves this year and by all account have established myself as a valuable part of the franchise. This work will always run in my blood. It will be a part of me long after I am done playing hockey.’ Downey also mentioned that while a training program with team trainers is what the team preferred him to stay on over the offseason he has no doubt that the work his dad will put him through over the next couple of months will have him in better shape than he has ever been in. ‘Watch out next year. Things are going to be much better than they were this year.’

  7. A Look Back at the S68 Defensive Class – One Season In There is no secret what the strength of the S68 VHL entry draft class was. Defenseman dominated the top of the rankings and it was viewed as a great thing since there were so many teams in need of defense coming into the draft. So what exactly has happened with these defensive prospects through their rookie seasons? Let’s take a look at the first round defensive prospects and how they did this year. Name: Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath Draft Position: Round 1 – Pick 1 TPE at Draft: 433 TPE at End of Season: 581 TPE Gain: 148 Condor Adrienne was far and away the top prospect going into the S68 entry draft and he was all but a lock to be taken first overall. The only wrinkle in that plan was that he had stated that if a team he did not like were to take him he would enter a holdout to get somewhere he wanted to be. Lucky for him the Malmo Nighthawks secured the first overall selection and they were on his list. As for his rookie season? It was very good. He was drafted to what ended up being a very strong Nighthawks squad and after a slow offensive start to his season he managed to end up on a hot streak. His season totals ended up being 72 games played with 11 goals, 45 assists, 56 points, 184 penalty minutes and he was a +17. On the defensive side he had 228 hits and 98 shots blocked. This stat line will definitely have him in the conversation for rookie of the year and the fact that he was an important piece on the powerhouse Nighthawks should only help his case. Name: Lance Flowers @CowboyinAmerica Draft Position: Round 1 – Pick 2 TPE at Draft: 365 TPE at End of Season: 468 TPE Gain: 103 In any other draft class Lance Flowers could have possibly, or even likely, been the top pick overall. Unfortunately for him he got saddled with being ranked behind the above discussed Condor Adrienne. He ended up being selected second overall by the New York Americans where he had the potential to be immediately thrust into an important role for a team that had struggled the year before. With ample opportunity to take a big role for the Americans, Flowers wasted no time at all putting up the statistics that easily justified his ranking at the top of the class. He managed to tally 72 games played, 7 goals, 52 assists, 59 points, 182 penalty minutes and was a +3 on an Americans team that sported a -15 goal differential. In the defensive end he picked up 294 hits and 159 shots blocked. While offensively his numbers were nearly matched by Condor Adrienne it was Flowers defensive game that really separated him and could see him as the front runner for rookie of the year. Name: Jeff Downey Draft Position: Round 1 – Pick 4 TPE at Draft: 305 TPE at End of Season: 428 TPE Gain: 123 Downey declared a bit later that both Flowers and Adrienne and for that reason was a bit behind in his development compared to those two. However he was still one of the hardest workers in the practice room when it came to the entire class and this fact was not missed by the general managers potentially looking at drafting him. The 6’4 220 lbs. Downey was taken fourth overall by the defending champion Vancouver Wolves after they traded up to the pick to take him. The Wolves, having just come off of a championship, would not have a top end position available for Downey and he was to be slotted onto the second pairing at well as being named the quarterback for the second power play unit. He managed to put up some solid statistics in his rookie season with 72 games played, 9 goals, 15 assists, 24 points, 66 penalty minutes and he was a disappointing -11. Defensively he put up 99 hits and 86 shots blocked. While his statistics are far from the most impressive in the class he will be looking at increased usage in the next couple of years and could be a catalyst in returning the Wolves to the glory they found in S67. Name: Luciano Valentino @Kekzkrieg Draft Position: Round 1 – Pick 5 TPE at Draft: 297 TPE at End of Season: 426 TPE Gain: 129 Luciano Valentino battled throughout the season with Jeff Downey for who would end up ranked third among defensemen in the draft rankings. While in the end Downey ended up being taken above the Italian that is no slight on Valentino. Valentino ended up being drafted fifth overall by the expansion DC Dragons and it would prove to be a great fit for him. In 72 games played he managed to score 12 goals, 36 assists, 48 points, 103 penalty minutes and would have a deceiving -56 plus/minus. Defensively he had 100 hits and 190 shots blocked. While he played for one of the worst teams in the league, as expected in their expansion season, Valentino proved that he was willing to lay his body on the line for the team as he came second in the league in blocked shots. Valentino should be a great piece going forward and should be a defensive cornerstone for the Dragons for many years. Name: Wolf Stansson Jr. @Cornholio Draft Position: Round 1 – Pick 12 TPE at Draft: 287 TPE at End of Season: 382 TPE Gain: 95 Much like Valentino above, Stansson Jr. was selected by an expansion team and certain statistics may have suffered because of it. After an unexpected fall in the draft all the way to 12th overall the Prague Phantoms were ecstatic to land what could be a cornerstone defenseman for an expansion franchise. Stansson Jr. had a very strong rookie year for the Phantoms. In 72 games played he had 13 goals, 45 assists, 58 points, 52 penalty minutes and was a -35. Defensively he put up 57 hits and a third best in the league 175 shots blocked. If he continues to develop as he has thus far he should be a great piece for the Phantoms for many years.
  8. Downey Disappointed in End of Season Vancouver, British Columbia – The Vancouver Wolves follow-up to their championship season last year has come to an unceremonious end. The Wolves have gone out in seven games to the hated Calgary Wranglers after holding a 3-2 series lead going into game six. Wolves defenseman Jeff Downey was approached for questioning after the game seven loss to the Wranglers. ‘To say I am disappointed by this result would be a huge understatement. This honestly sucks. I really wish I could have done more to contribute to a series win for us but unfortunately in the end it just didn’t work out. Next season I am really going to be putting in my all to try and be a key piece for this team in what is hopefully another cup run. I need to be better. I will be better.’ Downey finished the regular season with 9 goals and 24 assists for 33 points in 72 games. The playoffs were another story for his offensive game as he only managed to tally 1 point in the seven game series. He did manage to average over two blocked shots per game however and it was evident how much effort he was putting in on the defensive end.
  9. I guess a European team since that would mean we made the finals. Definitely Calgary... which has now happened. Nope I keep everything going the same just so I don't screw anything up.
  10. Halifax 21st Press Conference (October 21 - 27) What do y’all say to some TPE? Answer all six questions for 2 TPE! 1. What is the next part of your game you are hoping to develop? 2. 12. THAT'S WHAT YOU PICKED UP ON FROM THIS NOVEL OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE!?!
  13. It All Started with the ESHL It is pretty well known that I have been in this league for a very long time, as long as it has existed. The league was originally started in part by my cousin Scott Campbell who was the one who got me to join the league in the first place. But this was not the first league I was an active member in, that was the ESHL. The ESHL was a league that I joined in at some point in 2005 I believe. The simulation engine for that league was some year of the EA NHL series, maybe 2004, on a PS2. This made the simming and updating process very time consuming but the live sim threads were great to follow. While the league was definitely small it had a tight knit group of members which I still have some of them as friends on various social medias. It had the Arsenault brothers, Scotty, my brother and myself, David Knight, Matt Defosse, Quik and many others. There are still remnants of this league on the internet which I found recently which listed all of the teams as well as the rosters and it was a definite blast from the past. Names like the Caribbean Pirates and the PEI Rockets bring back some great memories of those days.
  14. A History of Failed Players It may not be known to too many people here but I have a lengthy, and I mean LENGTHY, history of failed players in this league. From going third overall in season one to making 5+ players since then I have never actually had a successful player in this league. I was more remembered for my forum activity or the drama I seemed to find myself involved in. With that said I am going to try to give a walkthrough of the players I created that I am able to remember and could find information on. 1. D - Jeff Downey Season 1 – 3rd Overall - Helsinki Frostbite This was the first player I made in this league, obviously, as he ended up being drafted third overall in the inaugural draft by general manager Jay Bris. I came into this league as a hyped prospect because of my past activity in the OHSL (OSHL?) and the ESHL where I was a top player. After being drafted to the team, from what I can remember, Jay Bris stepped down and handed me the reigns when Maxim Desny was acquired and handed the reins of the squad. Overall this player was a complete bust and maybe one of the worst busts in VHL history. I believe he actually ended up around 100 TPE total before I largely went inactive. From what I can find he ended his career with 49 goals and 101 assists for 150 career points in 216 career games played. 2. G – Drazen Miklavz Season 5 – 30th Overall – Hamilton Canucks Miklavz was the result of me using a European name generator and wanting to make a successful goalie in the league after utterly failing as a defenseman. How would I follow up an absolute catastrophe of a career as a defenseman? By having an even poorer career as a goalie. Miklavz would go on to play a WHOPPING 11 career games in the VHL after being selected in the fourth round by the Vancouver Canucks. The 8-1-1 record wasn’t too shabby though. 3. D – Rocky Stork Season 14 – 18th Overall – Toronto Legion Well you know what they say… if you fail at one position, try another position. If you fail at that position go back to your original position. By the time I had created Rocky Stork all of my credibility as a solid sim leaguer were gone and I was purely on the forums for the discussion and such. I can’t even find stats for this guy. He was a minor footnote who may or may not have had some playoff success at one point in this career. 4. LW – Bahr Downey Season 25 – 14th Overall – Helsinki Titans Why not a forward this time? And also did Helsinki not learn the first time they drafted my player that this would end in disaster? This is a player I can find even less on that Rocky Stork. His name is kind of funny though… Bahr Downey… Bar Down… get it? 5. Unknown Position – ?J Stafford Season Unknown – Unknown Pick – Unknown I found a graphic with this guy and it brought back memories of five or six of us making players as the Stafford brothers. I think it may have been Scotty, myself, Noiles and my brother at the very least. I’m not even sure if the graphic I posted above was for my guy but I thought it was great. So as you can clearly see I have a long history with this league with essentially zero success to my name. I have made some friend along the way and it has been a great time for sure. From being possibly the biggest bust in VHL history to leading a successful trip on the Oregon Trail I have had some good memories made here with some good people. Here is to hoping Jeff Downey the second can have a decent career to at least somewhat salvage my reputation here.
  15. Oh I have good memories with that guy

  17. 1. How old are you? Need the truth here. 2. How do you feel about Mississauga's season so far? Above or below expectations? 3. Of all the traitorous filth within your locker room who is the worst? 4. Do you believe @GlowyGoat will succeed in 'yeeting' you into a volcano in the future? 5. In one word can you describe former member of the Hounds Jeff Downey?
  18. Downey Continues to Chug Along Vancouver, British Columbia – Vancouver Wolves rookie defenseman Jeff Downey is continuing to chug along and is having a respectable season by most metrics. Drafted fourth overall last offseason by the defending champion Wolves he was thrust into a prominent role on the team’s second pairing as well as quarterbacking their second power play unit. As it currently stands through 64 regular season games Downey has posted eight goals and 14 assists for a total of 22 points while also being a -8 on the year. While some pundits may have had him performing at a higher level he has been adequate in his role so far and has been showing signs of improvement as the year has gone on. When asked about his play thus far Downey had the following to say: ‘It has been a good time so far. I mean I am making millions of dollars to play the game I grew up loving. Sure, as a team out season so far hasn’t been all that great and we are definitely not meeting expectations but I feel that with this core we have the potential for greatness in the upcoming seasons.’

What do you take in it? 5. If you were placed in a game like The Hunger Games (think Fortnite) in real life, do you think you could win the game? Would you have what it takes to take out your competition? 6. Who do you think is the strangest person in our locker room? Staff: @fonziGG @HughJas_ Players: @ShawnGlade @Benson @elrune1988 @Gaudette @BigBallerFromDownUnder @littleboi @ks5th @Kevin Lafleur @Chad D @aCrypticPancake @Larry Five Hole
