  1. Doesn't even realize that Russians don't celebrate Christmas but New Year, smh.
  2. MALMO, December 1, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – We’re just a week away from the start of the S91 playoffs, and it’s far from certain how the European Conference will look. At the time of writing, the Riga Reign sit five points clear of second place HC Davos Dynamo, although the latter have two games in hand to make up the difference. Sitting below the Swiss side are the Malmo Nighthawks and London United, both tied on 83 points apiece. The battle for third place, and avoiding a potentially tricky wild card clash against either the Helsinki Titans or Prague Phantoms, is truly on. After briefly topping the conference, the Nighthawks have come back down to earth. A 10-game win streak was snapped, and the Swedish side have been struggling for consistency. Their scoring wings appear to have been clipped, as despite strong play from goaltender Ash Starks, the Nighthawks are struggling to find the back of the net as they were doing earlier in the season. One player whose form has cooled off is Yaroslav Bogatyrev. The Russian forward looked to be potentially in the hunt for the scoring title 20 games ago. Since then, Bogatyrev has only added six goals over this spell. “It’s been a bit of a frustrating period for us, I won’t lie. Of course, we’re not expecting to win every game that we go into, and you can’t expected to go through the whole season undefeated, but it’s certainly the case where we feel we’re dropping some games that we should be winning. It’s been frustrating because we thought we had figured things out, but once again it shows that you always have to be working, always chasing that extra 5 or 10 percent in order to stay at the top of the tree” Bogatyrev told Shaiba.ru via Zoom call on Friday. Some media rumours had linked Bogatyrev’s nose dive in form to his recent signing of a two-season extension with the Nighthawks. However, the Russian forward, who has 35 goals this season to date, said that he was still highly motivated to make a significant contribution for Malmo. “I’m trying to block out all that external noise because it doesn’t help matters in any way. To suggest that I’ve cooled off because I’ve signed a contract, with a specific salary, for the next two seasons doesn’t understand how hockey players are wired. My core motivation is to win a Continental Cup, and I feel that I can do that here in Malmo. That is why I signed here, and I’m grateful to the team’s management that they have trusted me to be a core part of the team going forward. I’m going to be continually working flat out on my game to bring the Nighthawks the success that these fans deserve. We’re looking forward to the run in and the opportunity to secure third place, or even rise up the table depending on how the results go. The European Conference is a tough contest, but we’re up for the fight,” Bogatyrev remarked.
  3. I won’t lie, it’s hard to think about getting into the Christmas spirit when it’s 28 degrees Celsius outside and sunny. I haven’t seen snow for more than two years now, and the thought that we’re going to be ramping up with Mariah Carey when I’m walking around in shorts doesn’t really fit. Obviously we have the run in to Christmas and the charity drive, which is not only a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to great causes, but it’s also the chance to earn some of that sweet sweet TPE. I was happy to commit to signing two seasons with the Malmo Nighthawks. The locker room is great, and the team has been on an upward trajectory. I was hesitant at first, given that I’ve previously only wanted to sign a one season contract, but to be honest, I didn’t want to deal with free agency again, especially given that I’m finding it harder and harder to commit a lot of time to the VHL at the moment. How am I going to be able to check up on every team, work out who is there, and make the choice. Why move when things are ok?
  4. 1. Looking like it's going to be Eagles, he's a beast! 2. Don't play now, but in the past it was Just Cause 4. Riga have been great. 5. Huge as I'm the one who signed it! 6. Duck no doubt! 9. Our 10 game winning streak!
  5. The trade deadline is on the horizon, and once again the talk turned to the future of Yaroslav Bogatyrev. This time each season, the rumour mill often sprung into life as the Russian forward considered his future. This time round, with the Malmo Nighthawks, was no exception. Since joining the Swedish side, Bogatyrev has made a major impression. He has spent most of the season in the Top 10 goal scorer charts, and has been a crucial piece of Malmo’s recent success that has seen the team shoot up the charts to first overall. The Nighthawks form appears to be dipping somewhat, giving space for others such as the Riga Reign to catch up, but spirits were high on Thursday as Bogatyrev signed a two-season contract extension. “I’ve enjoyed every minute being in Malmo, and I’m delighted to commit my future here,” Bogatyrev told reporters on Thursday. “I really think that the Nighthawks have a chance to compete for a cup this season, and signs are good that we can continue this form providing that pieces stay in place. I wanted to show to the other members of the team that I am committed and I’m willing to stay and make Malmo a challenger,” he added.
  6. Good day everyone. I haven’t been too active, but I have seen a recent post about the use of AI in point tasks, and how sneaky cheaters have been trying to pull a fast one over on the VHL. I want to approach this theme week point task from a different angle, because to be honest, I don’t know the first thing about recruitment. I’ve never recruited anyone to anything before, so I all I can really do is think about how I would potentially join the VHL. Looking back, I can’t remember how I stumbled on the VHL more than two years ago. Nevertheless, I’m here, and I’m still active. To write this point task, I asked ChatGPT to name me the top 5 ways to recruit new members to a sim hockey league. However, because we are so anti-CHAT GPT, I’m going to prove why this system is wrong, and how its suggestions won’t help bring new members to the league. “Social Media Promotion” Social media promotion. Well it turns out that everyone is doing this these days. How do you fight for a place under the sun when every man and his dog is doing social media promotion. Where do you target? Where is the budget coming from for the adverts (donations are down)? Are we able to generate leads and then convert them into active members? I feel that social media promotion in the end has a super low ROI and doesn’t help the VHL recruitment team meet its stringent KPIS! “Create a user-friendly website” The VHL already has a user-friendly website – the VHL portal. I’ve been in multiple sim leagues in the past that haven’t had their own website. Clearly though, if we’re doing a post about recruitment, that means it isn’t going well, so a user-friendly website does not drive new registrations. “Incentives and Rewards” Again, the VHL already does this, and it is clearly not working. What rewards do people receive for bringing new members? Maybe if some of the social media promotion budget was put towards this, rather than TPE, it could work. “Engage with the Community” This one doesn’t even deserve a mention. The community is a terrible place. What community are we thinking about? The community that I see in gen chat is not a community at all. What other communities exist? Reddit? Twitter? “Partnerships and Collaborations” From what I gather, this has already been done in the past and hasn’t succeeded, so why repeat it? What hockey youtubers are there who even get big traffic? Steve Dangle and Nasher? They have bigger fish to fry. Are we really going to get a lot of members coming from videos that have 1,000 watches? Again, I don’t see this working. There you go, that is why ChatGPT sucks and you should not use it.
  7. 1. Challenge for a cup! 2. I'd like to have a career year and contribute to a successful team. 4. How bad the Sens have been. 5. Gotta be McFleury I think. 6. Myself or Eagles 9. Find water.
  8. The European Conference is a bloodbath this season. The race for playoff spots is truly on, and there will be no quarter given. The Malmo Nighthawks have had a somewhat inconsistent start to the season. The team was steady at 0.500 until a recent four-game winning streak saw the Swedish side leapfrog HC Davos Dynamo into fifth place. “It’s been an interesting start to the season. I think it’s definitely been the case that things weren’t clicking on the defensive side of the puck, and also we had trouble getting our depth guys on the board, but some recent changes appear to have worked over recent games,” Nighthawks forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev said on Wednesday. Bogatyrev’s comments come after the Nighthawks put a 6-2 beating on the Prague Phantoms, one of the frontrunners in the conference. The Russian forward had a quiet game, being held off the scoreboard, but said that the two points was most important. “Some of the other guys pulled on the rope in that game and got the result we needed. The D played great and we got some great goaltending, and it’s a huge confidence boosting win for us,” he concluded.
  9. You're now no longer the #1 hater. Congrats.
  10. You can take that question mark out of the thread title
  11. I feel like going into first person for this one having just put together 1,000 words for my media spot. The content churn out never stops, especially when I got destroyed my depreciation after forgetting to purchase my first fighter. So five seasons with Boga in Seattle comes to a close, and now I have Bana going after me in one of his “sassy articles.” As I outlined in the media spot, I have no reason to make Seattle better next season, yet I was expected to consent to a sign and trade. My points are made in my media spot, and I feel that the truth is on my side. I’m excited to be joining a new team in Malmo. To my knowledge this is now my fifth team in the VHL, and I’m slowly getting round to playing with everyone. I made it known throughout that I wanted to be competing for a cup next season (because I’ve still yet to win one), and I appreciate the GMs that got in touch, sent their pitches, had their patience with me while I made my decision. I’m excited to see what can be done with Malmo next season. I understand that last time round was a mess, but the roster looks strong.
  12. Key reason why I signed here! Once before the game, that's all. Not really sure. Korpisalo sucks. Honestly, home made chicken breast and bulgur When work ends. Brand New - The Devil and God are raging inside me
  13. MALMO, October 23, 2023 (Shaiba.ru) – The VHL, a league that is never short of drama, is once again being forced to draw sides following an explosive outburst between Russian forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev and the Seattle Bears management. Tensions rose over the past two weeks, after the Bears desperately attempted to shop Bogatyrev’s rights to any and all comers in order to get some sort of return for their star forward, who said that he was going to go to free agency following Seattle’s mediocre season that saw them fall short in the N.A. Conference Wild Card. In a public post made on Sunday, the Bears management accused Bogatyrev of responding “to no one for days” and then coming out with “sassy little articles” discussing the current state of affairs. Most notably, the Bears management slammed Bogatyrev, saying that “they never turned into the star they should have became when Seattle drafted them.” Shaiba.ru previously spoke with Bogatyrev’s agent, Oleg Markov, who criticized Seattle management for pressurizing his client to accept a sign and trade, despite the Nizhnii Tagil forward consistently saying that he wanted to go to free agency, to get all offers on the table before making a decision. Ironically, Yaroslav Bogatyrev on Monday signed with the Malmo Nighthawks as a free agent, and Oleg Markov told Shaiba.ru that the Swedish side was actually one of the teams that pushed hardest for the Russian forward’s rights. According to insider sources, the Nighthawks made a strong offer for Bogatyrev’s rights, but the way things turned out (with Bogatyrev’s trade to HC Davos Dynamo voided over tricky terms), Seattle are in fact left with nothing for their former star forward. After a period of silence, Shaiba.ru received a written comment from Bogatyrev on Monday addressing both his signature with the Malmo Nighthawks, as well as the comments from the Seattle Bears management. “Firstly, I want to start with the good news. I’m delighted to have signed with the Malmo Nighthawks and I’m looking forward to joining up with the team and hopefully competing for a Continental Cup. I’ve found the team’s management to be highly constructive, and fostering a strong locker room atmosphere. It will be great to finally enjoy a positive locker room in the VHL. Moving onto the comments from the team’s management. I can understand their frustration. Seattle have always been known as a team that shows little loyalty to their players. The management always tries to move players out as soon as they start making over a certain salary, and there’s no ceremony about it. Despite being fully committed to the Bears, I learned that Seattle were shopping me at one point, and to learn of this disloyalty was highly disappointing to me. At the end of the day, why should I bend and sign away my free agent rights, just because you want to earn a draft pick off of me? I have zero vested interest in doing of anything that benefits Seattle if I’m leaving the team, and all correspondence should have gone through my agent, rather than directly to me. As the second top goal scorer in the entire VHL last season, I find it interesting why the management is accusing me of not becoming a star. I frankly think that the Bears management need to take a closer look at themselves, understand the reasoning as to why the team failed to win a cup (after throwing away a 3-1 Continental Cup final lead), and the failure last season to generate any form of offense. I find it unbecoming to make your frustrations known so publicly and then to go on the assault against former players. It’s a sign of poor character, and I would hope that someone close to the Seattle management in order to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen again, and remind them that they are an adult and that they should not act like a child throwing their toys out of the pram. In short, my statement can be distilled down to the following -- don’t blame me for your failure to build a coherent team, and not expect any loyalty from me, when you have not shown loyalty to others.” After Shaiba.ru received Bogatyrev’s statement, we contacted the Russian forward’s agent, Oleg Markov, to get his comment on the state of affairs. Over the phone, Markov said that he was delighted with his client’s agreement with the Malmo Nighthawks, and also went on the offensive against the public statement of Seattle’s management. “Malmo have been fantastic throughout the entire process. From start to finish, our negotiations in the free agent period were solid, and they provided a strong value proposition that will give my client what he was seeking when he made the announcement that he would be going to free agency. Additionally, unlike Seattle, they showed no hard feelings when they were informed that my client would not consent to a sign and trade, and also put no pressure on my client throughout the free agency process when several days were asked to make a decision. In short, they acted as a general manager should. That being said, my client still wishes to express his gratitude to many people in Seattle for their help, assistance, and positive emotions throughout my client’s five seasons in the Pacific Northwest. The team failed to meet its goals, but my client gave his all to the team since S86, and he received a lot back from the team. My client is now currently in the midst of a rigorous preseason schedule, and he is confident of coming into the season in the best form he’s been in in his career to date. He is delighted to be returning to Europe in order to be closer to friends and family, and we are confident that the Nighthawks are going to be one of the contending teams in the European Conference next season, and there are few teams that can match the team’s talent level.”
