A little trivia in advance: In Europe All Star Games are much less common than they are in North America. Switzerland only introduced an All Star Game in 1996 after a tragic accident by Pat Schafhauser, a Minnesota born skater. Schafhauser together with his brother Bill played for my team, the EV Zug, before he moved on to Lugano. During a match for his new team, Pat was at the receiving end of a clean check. Unfortunately, he crashed into the boards and was not able to get up again on his own. He was flown into a special clinic where they diagnosed that he will never be able to skate again as he suffered irreversible damage to his vertebrae and will remain a paraplegic. To his honour and to help him out financially, the All Star Games were born and some of the proceeds go to a foundation in his name, which helps out people who share Pat's fate. So much for trivia and I wish it was more cheerful. To now build a bridge to VHL relevant topics, I decided boringly and very umimaginatively to name my two CGY All Star teams from the past and from the last decade. To avoid any bias I will neither name me nor my brother for such team. The Past: On the Left Wing I already got into a problem. Who to pick? Rybak? The Ukrainian Dynamo is a Calgary lifer and leads the franchise in points and goals, despite Janser's recent efforts to break this records. Or Boulet? The Swiss has the trophy for the best two-way forward named after him and a ship load of trophies to his name. Or Bunclewirth? The Saskatoon native is also a Wranglers lifer but with a shorter VHL career, who not only played for Red-White-and-Black but simultaneously managed them. A very tough choice, but I went for the low hanging fruit and pick Boulet. I think you cannot go wrong with any of them. On the Center, I nominate Donetsk native Alexander Chershenko. To this day the Ukrainian holds the franchise record for game winners, despite having played two seasons for the Americans. On the Right Wing, I go with Brett Slobodzian. Also a Saskatoon native and despite a shortened VHL career of five seasons (all for CGY), he is considered one of the greatest to grace the ice. With a whole cabinet full of individual awards, it is no surprise that the trophy for the Most Outstanding Player is named after him. On the defence, everyone not picking Labatte as one of the two to hold down the fort is a fool in my eyes. Another Saskatoonie, he is second in franchise scoring as a back. An other compulsive trophy hoarder, the award for the best defence man in the league is named in his honour. Who will support Labatte, though? Sauve, Kendrick and Sullivan are all good options. I finally decided for Alexander Sauvé as the Bernese defender collected most of his silverware during his two stints with Calgary. Who's on first in net? A valid question as I did my choice based on retired numbers and it appears the only position where there is none is goalkeeper. I go with Red Deer native Norris Stopko. As he played a lot of games for the franchise and had some individual and team success as a member of the Wranglers (and his commute must have been very short). Now on to the S80s All stars: On the Left Wing I name Landon Wolanin. A very clutch player, never scoring below ppg with the exception of his rookie season. Twice at the brink on having a three digit season with Calgary, but Janser was just not good enough to convert the one pass missing. On the Center I name Saku Kotkakoivu. It was a split decision between him and Gonçalves, Saku gets the nod for the best season in the hybrid era where he had almost zero support from a rebuilding Calgary team. On the Right Wing it is the gritty Scouser Phil The Rock Johnson who provided the Wranglers with some sand paper in their game and valuable secondary scoring. Dude still holds the franchise record for hits. On the back end I name Phil Strasmore and AirRig GoodBrandSun, as they were a staple in the Wranglers' defence during the eighties. In net I decided for Oscar Lindbergh who helped Calgary to make the final push in the playoffs. Honourable mentions go out to Klamasteris and Dahl who were solid tendies but could not bring the Albertan team that success the franchise was looking for. Who would win this encounter? That is indeed difficult two say, as it is almost impossible to compare different eras against each other to start with. Then add the hybrid attributes to the mix and you have a brainfuck par excellence at your hands. I leave that up to your, dear reader's, imagination. I would also be interested on different opinions on my CGY All Star selections.

Yeah CGY is not making a good case for the Stolzy, but I am happy that @rory has such strong arguments for some silverware.

Can’t say it has ever come up. We would probably assign a certain limit to when it needs to be applied by but if it’s relatively soon it would probably be fine even if it’s a new player.

It happened in game 244 against the Malmö Nighthawks. Barely two minutes were played and Malmö's Stone was serving a minor for interference. 36xW picked up a puck that the Nighthawks dropped into the zone by Prince-de-Galles in order to facilitate a line change. The New York netminder passed the puck to the Japanese rookie Rin Kagamine, who saw that Janser was lurking in the neutral zone. The diminutive back relayed the disc to his fellow draftee. Callum entered the Swedish zone at speed thanks to his improved skating and puckhandling. Apparently the freshly changed lines were still organizing themselves and Janser took a chance from the point, heeding Wayne Gretzky's advice to shoot more often. The 'ding' was audible even in the nose bleed section of the Madison Square Garden. But instead to bounce off the iron and go back into play as was so often the case this season, the puck found the way into the back of the net. It took the Swiss defender 31 games to score his first VHL goal. While he was busy to celebrate this meaningful event with the 'Beauty and the Beast' fan section, Rin secured the biscuit as a souvenir for the hulking Calgary native.

a little off-topic but some trivia to the name 'Pinscher' (non-dog people can discontinue reading now as it is very dog specific). Min Pin's original proper name is 'Rehpinscher' (literal translation is 'deer pincher'). They are called that because they were bred as hunting dogs, chasing deer down and pinch them in the legs to bring the game to the ground. By the way Dobermann are also 'Pinscher' (and both were originally bred in Germany) and hence the 'Mini-me' look between Minpin and Dobermann. Dobermann were used for hunting predators like fox, stoat and raven (this is a definition I took over from Wiki) and were quickly adopted into police service (and thereby earning the nickname 'Gendarmenhund'). Just for the lols I would go for a Minpin instead of Dalmatian (and because Dalmatians tend to have a plethora of genetic defects like deafness and kidneystones). But I will refrain from polling, as I am of the opinion the dog chooses its master and not vice versa.

I am no expert on the engine either. I just like physical players and am willing to sacrifice some production. DJ was pretty physical as well and got a HOF career out of it... your argument is still valid though that time in the bin does not help with your production.

BC is indeed not very efficient, but there are points in your progression where it is more efficient than the alternatives (if you are willing to pay the price in form of more PIM). With my last and even more so with my current player, this is a price I am willing to pay. To than backtrack and invest in DI again appears indeed anything but efficient to me.

The New York Americans have different public relation programs in place. The players are obliged to participate on a minimum amount of same but can pick and choose from them. Callum volunteered to teach kids skating in the Central Park, whereas Rin offered to give a concert to the public at the same location. Free of charge, of course. A lot of New Yorkers showed up to profit from these offers. When it was a ten year old girl's turn was up to skate with the Swiss back, she said 'If I am grown up, I want to become as good as a hockey player as you, Callum.' 'Oh dear, don't strive to be like me. Strive to be better. Look at you go, you skate already better than I do.' The fan, her confidence clearly boosted by the compliment, started to try out faster turns and even managed to skate backwards. Meanwhile, Kagamine had both hands full to satisfy the numerous requests for autographs and selfies after she finished her performance. The Americans organization arranged for some food trucks for the attending NYA supporters, also with no charge for the citizens. It is their way to thank their loyal fans for their support over all these cup-less years. A condition 'The Beauty and the Beast' are determined to change.

Well to be fair as long as the sim engine is still the same and predominantly relies on SC, PH, SK and Defence for the outcome of the sims, competitive players will inevitably have a similar build. Even if we were to switch engines, that would be the case in a jiffy UNLESS the powers to be let us user in the dark which attributes do exactly what in the engine and let us guess for 3-4 careers until we find out on ourselves. Rinse and repeat.
