  1. Thanks
leandrofg got a reaction from Daniel Janser in Making an effort for 'Theme Week'
I wasn't expecting to write a Media Spot this week. It's going to be a long hard-working one, but this season's 'Theme Week' is very much worth it! Also, there's free TPE in the end. So I'm starting this on Monday night - let's see how long it takes me to publish.

First of all, I have got to show some appreciation for every member who has been a part of the VHL throughout the years. I'm a fairly new member. My 4-month anniversary is coming up next week, but there's so much history here... it's hard to start on where to be appreciative, but for everyone involved in this project, thank you for letting me start where the league is now.

We start before my account creation on the forum, and I've got to thank the recruitment crew and everyone who has donated. You made the ad I saw on Youtube possible. You made me join the VHL. Thank you.

    Let's start tagging?

First of all, it's got to be @Daniel Janser, my first GM. You took me under your wing in the Mississauga Locker Room, and help me find my way around the VHL, made me feel supported during my first weeks of learning about the league, and tried your best to guide me, never trying to influence my decisions, but giving me the tools to make them the best way I can. The one member I'd point out as my mentor here. Probably with a big part in my continued engagement in the community. For this and all your contributions to the VHL, you were my pick for last season's Frederik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy. Also can't forget your help during last season's WJC, where I asked you to be my AGM, and you accepted without hesitation. Thank you for everything! 💯

It's Tuesday morning, I've just sent a nice quote to a customer, therefore I'll write a few more lines. It's time to thank @Ente2997, Mississauga's AGM, but also one of my player's in S82's WJC. For all your help during my first weeks in Mississauga and your engagement during a great run in the WJC (that didn't end all that well), thank you! 🙌

Then I got traded, but I can't say I didn't enjoy what came afterward. Let's go to Mexico City... later!

I came to have dinner at my parents' house. My mother and my fiancée are chatting so I'm going to thank some more people!

@youloser1337, you magnificent beast. I must say it hurt a bit when you didn't choose me as the an AGM for the Kings. That was the first position I applied to because it was the first time I felt excited about a position. That was due to the Locker Room environment you created in Mexico City. I thank you for your trust in me my player when you traded draft pieces for our cup run - which was intense and we almost got it!! I loved my time under your management. And, because this wasn't enough, you are also in charge of one of my favorite things in the VHL... Fantasy Zone! Your work is amazing, I love it, and if you ever want an extra pair of hands, I'd love to help you out if need be! 👑

@Brandon, my guy! Our time in Mexico City was amazing. We took Houston to 7 and I couldn't be more proud. I know you have a history in the VHL, so it maybe didn't have such a big impact on you, but as a newbie, our camaraderie in the Locker Room stuck and will stick will me during my time here in the VHL. I hope we can play together again! 👑

@Spartan, first of all, I'm sorry for all the times I've troubled you. With a wrong claim or with a stupid question... thank you for your patience. In this case, I'd like to think I'd be thanking you in the name of all the new guys that come into the VHL and find some trouble with the claiming process. (To all other updaters, thank you as well, and I'm sorry for not mentioning you, but my chats concerning claims have been with Spartan) 🙏

@Dom, @samx, and @Alex. What a trio here. I have to say this will be more towards Alex since my interactions were mostly with him. I just want to thank you all for the opportunity to GM in the JST. My first opportunity as a GM, and I must say it ended up going rather well. Let's go, Warriors!!

@thadthrasher, speaking of the JST, my AGM. Luck struck when I was able to pick you. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your help building the team, thank you for your time, thank you for showing me the ropes, and thank you for your message early on during the season... I think I could go on, but it's just a big thank you for everything and your trust.

Sorry to the guys below, but your thank you will only come tomorrow!

Well, Wednesday was a tough day and impossible to come here and write. Today I woke up to a few other pings from two great guys. One of whom I have written about, the other I'm about to. Now, it's lunchtime here at the fair, and not many people coming through, so... let's write!

@badcolethetitan, @ctots, @Crstats23, thank you for your camaraderie during the JST and WJC! What a great group of GMs that was. Thanks for the friendly banter, thank you for the activity on Discord, and thank you for keeping it fun!

@Ricer13 and @fonziGG, thank you for the opportunity in the WJC! Great opportunity to build on the JST knowledge and get to know other members of the community. If possible, I'd like to have another shot with Team Europe, as to correct last year's debacle at the end. 🇪🇺

@Dil, first of all, thank you for creating the Vasteras Bot. And thank you for allowing me to showcase my talents in the VHLE. It was a tough season, but I hope to have been worth that first overall pick!

@eagle_3450, thank you for all the good times in the Locker Room! And thank you for the Igor-Leon combination. 😂

That's it for now. Sorry for keeping it short, but- no time!

Well, lunchtime came for me at 4 pm. I've just found out @youloser1337is leaving his GM position, so I'm sorry for what I've said about being your AGM. I wish you the best of luck in life, so you can come back to GMing.

@Ricer13 and @Ben, thank you for the trust you had in me to make me the 9th pick in the draft. I appreciate your respect for what I was looking for in a team, and I thank you because Calgary's Locker Room is even more incredible than what I was expecting. I can't wait to come up to the VHL and rock that boat with the guys I'm going to list next!

@jacobcarson877, @Phil, @Rhynex Entertainment, @Daniel Janser, and @DollarAndADream . You guys make up for the craziest locker room, and that's incredible. It's incredibly active and incredibly fun to be a part of. Can't wait to play with you in the future. And to the new retiree, I can wait for Ricer to draft you next season!

@Shindigs, for the WJC competitiveness and for leaving Bratislava, thank you! Also, thank you for not actually leaving Bratislava, you are a truly wonderful member of the community. You're very much deserving of the Frederik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy, although my pick was another man. Thanks for the hair I wish I had too! 😂

@BOOM, @Jack Feriancek, @ctots, @youloser1337, @thadthrasher thank you all for the Bratislava Locker Room! It has been a truly great experience being your AGM. Although I don't do much, I do enjoy your weekly answers to my stupid questions. And @BOOM... damn, do you have a knack for great graphics! 🙌

@FrostBeard, Frosty! My GM! I'm so thankful for the opportunity you presented me with. It has been a pleasure to serve under your management. You have an amazing leadership style, and I can't say I haven't taken that to my bag of knowledge, not only to apply it in the VHL but in life too. You're an incredible character - and I never thought I'd be saying this about a politician! I know I can be a pain in the ass so I'm appreciative of your patience, and dare I say friendship. For that and our future in Bratislava, thank you!

Ok, had to leave for a bit, but I'm back to finish strong!

I wasn't expecting to finish this until Saturday, but things are quite calm right now. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone who felt should have been mentioned, but truly I'd like to thank and ping everyone who I have crossed paths with, but also those who I did not.

@Spartan, can I claim this forever?

First and foremost, I’d like to show my appreciation for the entire Oslo Storm organization. The team has struggled this season, but morale has been high and nobody has let the lack of success on the ice bother them too much. Allow me to gush with positivity over everyone for a bit.

@JB123 - Dude, you’re a hero. Thank you so much for taking on the task of pulling the team out of a tailspin and righting the ship this season. You do a great job running the locker room and being communicative - you don’t get near enough credit for what you’re doing!

@Thunder, @Ledge, @Crstats23, @hcrooster96, @InstantRockstar- The good vibe of the Storm is entirely thanks to your contributions to the locker room. You’ve celebrated each other’s individual successes in an era where team success is low. I really appreciate your participation in the press conference thread, too! It may not seem like much, but those posts go a long way toward making me feel like my role as AGM is valuable. I’m going to miss you all as you move on to your VHL teams, but I’m so excited for all the success you will find there! No matter where your career takes you, know that I’ll be rooting for you and celebrating your high moments like a true fan.

Next up: Bratislava! What a team, right? We love those guys.

@FrostBeard @leandrofg- Thank you for grabbing me in the draft! And for running the team actively & successfully! I know you’ve got a lot on your plate, Frosty, but I never felt like the team was being neglected as a result. You’re doing great managing the team and I’m glad to be playing for you. Hopefully we can take it all the way this season!

We can’t shower my teams with love without including the mid legends themselves, the DC Dragons!

@Enorama& @fishy - I see the work you do to make DC a top tier organization. I’m very impressed and appreciative. It feels like the locker room is a true community who cares, and I’m happy to be a part of it.

    Miscellaneous love:

@Berocka- You’re in my ears at least once each week to share your perspective on the league, and it’s always a good listen. The massive backlog of podcasts you’ve released over your VHL career are an amazing time capsule of league history as well as being genuinely funny and entertaining. You’re killing it!

@MubbleFubbles - Thank you for your advice and suggestions in our JST run as Team Royals - I learned an absurd amount through that, you were awesome!

@JardyB10 - You’re energetic, you’re controversial (in a good way), you provide me with literal hours of entertainment in the form of podcasts. You enjoy a lot of the same media that I do, and that’s super relatable. I very much appreciate the chaotic good energy that you bring to the league.

@Tate - In the running for sweetest guy in the VHL, I am always delighted to tune into your podcasts whenever you release them. Our lives have a lot of parallels, which is absolutely delightful to me. The origin story of your player is one of the best written pieces I’ve seen on the forums. Thanks for being a great dude!

Making a return to the VHL has been a tremendously fun ride, thanks to the community and great people. It's why I came back, and why I continually enjoy my time. Here are a few people that have stood out and made it such a great league to be apart of.

@Insypher There is only one single player who I will share the journey to the VHL with from the VHLM, VHLE, and VHL. We lit up the M on the same line, he's been dominating the E in the last half of the season. It's great to follow both of our players at the same time, and see us both progress. Great to have a goal scoring machine and great person like you in the lockerrooms.

@Spartan For drafting my player to the all mighty Menace, even though I was afk on Discord watching the draft and missed his message. Feel super lucky to be in a lockerroom that is as active as Moscow, thanks to Spartan fostering the community. Appreciate you answering all of my questions, and for being a being a great GM. Hopefully you won't need to carry me in Apex too much longer, and I can pull my weight with all the grinding I've been doing.

@STZ Always a pleasure gaming with you! Was excited to join Moscow with a graphic god on the team, I've got some learning to do from you with regards to text and render effects. Hopefully we can get a trio going soon with you and Spartan, whether it be Apex or Valorant.

@KaleebtheMighty @Spaz Both of you have been absolutely phenomenal in both fostering a great community in Istanbul with an active lockerroom, and being insanely active on the management front. Always changing lines, taking any input, and constantly trying new things. Why we are in the playoffs is because of both of your dedication to tinkering and getting things right for our end of season run. I was super excited to join this squad, and I'll definitely miss the current Istanbul team / management.

@jacobcarson877 @badcolethetitanThe Istanbul lockerroom has been a blast to be apart of because of the both of you. Active every single day, constantly giving good vibes, and making this season such a fun one to be apart of. The end of S83 VHLE season run (12-0) to sneak back into the playoffs thanks to the incredible speech of @cole will go down in Istanbul history. Both of you push me to grind even harder for the sweet sweet TPE, you both are TPE god's. Excited to see what our players can do in the late part of their career. I'll miss being on a team with the both of you, and hopefully our players can interconnect at some point in the future!

@youloser1337 For making the first impressions back into the VHL with the Mexico City Kings such a great experience. Fantastic GM, person, and member of the league. To me, you're like the TPE Genie that gifts everyone TPE thanks to your dedication and exceptional Google Forms skills. My player thanks you, from the bottom of his heart.

@leandrofg For the great times in Mexico City, and our time together in the juniors. Once you joined the Kings on my line, everyone elevated. You were always super active in the discord and great to chat with. Any team is lucky to have you in the lockerroom spreading the good vibes. Hopefully we can cross paths again!

@Moon For bringing me from the YouTube comment section back into the VHL, and helping me along the way in the beginning stages. Wouldn't be having this great of a time without you! Also, the great chats in Discord, looking forward to more. You're always good vibes!

@MexicanCow123 @fromtheinside @rory For the absolute degen late night gambling discord stream before the S83 draft that made me laugh insanely hard. I swear if @mexicancow got just $20 more, he could have turned that into $1,000,000.

@Arce An OG. Always great to talk to and see around the forums / discord. Funny, I have a build path every 100 TPE to 1000 TPE, and your player has just about stayed exactly to my build path as well. Great minds think alike... Until Simon dumpsters us for making optimal TPE builds and makes our players ghosts on the ice (after you dominated the E, and I had an insane M playoff stretch). Hopefully both of our players can make a giant bounce back next season. I believe in us 🙏

@Victor We had a nice chat since I joined back. Shared some great memories together in the early VHL days. Always great to catch up with and see around.

@Frank @InstantRockstar Both of you are GFX god's that I admire, always keep an eye out for your weekly signatures, and you both always impress. Keep up the great work!

leandrofg reacted to youloser1337 in Just Another Appreciation Post... Totally Nothing Special About It At All....
This league has been one of the best communities I’ve ever found. When I was bored during the pandemic and watched an NHL21 video, the ad for the VHL had me curious. Since then, I’ve been around this community for almost 2 years, joining in Season 74. The friends I’ve made along the way have been fantastic. I’m genuinely thankful for finding this league. On top of that, I was given the Elmebeck trophy for being an outstanding member. That was one of the most special awards I’ve ever received. To think the community thought that highly of me was just incredible.

Now to show my appreciation to everyone. It seems that everyone is making a list. I think I’ll copy that style but do my personal stuff instead. First things first, everyone who has mentioned me in their appreciation posts. I am truly honored to be the fantasy zone person. It has been a lot of fun and it keeps me on my toes and gives me a new skillset. When I first started I barely knew anything about Excel / Sheets. Now I can bang out a formula and do forms with no problem. A big thank you to @Spartanfor helping me with the bracket challenge. A true hero of my Fantasy Zone career.

To my first GM, @DMaximus , I appreciate you being the only person actually to offer a contract to me. You created that initial spark that grew into me being an active member and doing all of my point tasks. You made the league fun and exciting until the final sims. Hell, you were the first to congratulate me on being drafted and getting the GM position. You were my first mentor and I’m so happy we got to work together!

@hylandsand @rory . The dynamic duo. You guys made Season 75 a blast. You kept me motivated and excited for the playoffs. Unfortunately, we came up short and lost in the playoffs but we had our fun. The gifs alone made it fun. Plus we had a great group and a very active discord. It was a blast.

@hedgehog337. You were my first VHL GM. You are definitely unique and made the whole VHL experience interesting. From the highs and lows, my time in Riga was awesome. It just sucks how STHS really screwed us over and didn’t give us that run that our team was built for. I think moving on from the team was best for both of us. I hope we can meet again in the future.

@Banackock. Seattle was a breath of fresh air. You worked so hard to bring me to Seattle. I remember I was out for lunch with my coworkers and you were messaging me about how great it would be. You talked the talk and walked the walk. You talked a big game and not only met those expectations, but you also destroyed them. You brought Lose back into a superstar in one season. It was outstanding and exciting to be in the locker room.

@Laine You gave me my first manager job in the league. To think that the one thing that really sparked your interest was the scouting I did in the ProAm tournament. Thank you for organizing that alongside everyone else. You guys gave me my first shot and gave me a chance to prove myself. I worked very hard with you to get the Minnesota squad a true contender each season I was there. Your advice and help got me to my first GM job too.

@McWolf and @diamond_ace . Thank you for believing in me and giving me a job as a VHLM GM. You saw all the hard work I was putting in with the waivers and attempting to retain everyone. You saw a motivated individual who wanted to make the league a better place. You saw a first-generation player grow from a loner to someone who was taking the role very seriously. Getting the GM position in Mexico City was a true honor for the great history but also for being an alumnus too. Trying to get back to that cup while helping players was a blast.

@Moon and @Vice. You guys were my AGMs. You two each had your own skills and brought unique stuff to me. Vice, although brief you were a great person to be around. You really spiced up the discord and our waiver pitch. You brought fresh ideas and I’m grateful for that. Moon, my project :P. You were the first guy I knew that was going to be my AGM. From the trial run in the junior tournament to the announcement. I saw a lot of potential in you and you definitely proved that. You far exceeded all of my expectations. Keep up the great work.

To all the VHLM GMs, this was one of the best groups I’ve been around. The memes were spicy! I always appreciated the chats and bsing around during the season. It made the GMing job a lot less stressful. Plus the trade chats were always fun although intimidating. I still think I can do a synopsis of all the other toy story movies in the chat.

@Baby Boomer and @FrostBeard. Thank you for the introduction to the VHLE. While it was a shaky start in FA, I think I found a fun team with Rome. While we weren’t the best, it was fun to be around some of the old players from the team. Being the only D on the team was rough though. And Frost, thank you for making me a deadline deal. I hope I am worth every penny you spent on me.

To anyone who I might have forgotten. I’m sorry I couldn’t list you all. I’m horrible at remembering names. I appreciate everyone who supported me. Everyone has been very kind and supportive of me and I’m floored by the love.

This is where I switch it up. Mexico City only has 2 games remaining on the schedule. We aren’t making the playoffs and we clinched the worst record. Those last 2 games are going to be emotional and exciting for me. Why? Well, it’s going to be my last 2 games as the GM of the Mexico City Kings. Let me explain myself and how I came to this.

When I was first hired for the position, I was working from home with a dead-end job on my computer for 15+ hours a day. I would have the forum on my second monitor while I was working and did waiver pitches when they arrived. Things changed though. I went out bowling more often. I joined a bowling league too. Time went by and I switched to an IT position at the same company I worked for. This meant I had to go back to the office. I met a new friend online from NYC who bowled near me and invited me to join his league. That’s 2 bowling leagues now. My time with VHL slowly went down and down. It came to the point where I was bowling in 3 leagues and had so much work to do that I came home exhausted. I even forgot to claim welfare when I couldn’t think of media spots. I really had to think about my future as a GM. When this season started and I had a small selection of picks, I knew I couldn’t do it anymore. Not because I gave up on the league, it was just I needed to rely on waivers and I didn’t have the time for it anymore. Finding an AGM was also a tough task in the first place. Fun fact, when I chose Vice I just picked him because he was online at the time. Of course, I had candidates lined up but that was the final condition (Yes I know I’m horrible at decision making). I also couldn’t help new players out like I used to. I’ve watched people be motivated when they first joined and then go inactive the next week. It takes a large toll on you mentally. You think you did your job when they joined only to lose interest fast. I approached MC and DA about this decision too. I told them that it wasn’t fair to have a GM who isn’t motivated like when I first joined the GM role. For that reason, I’m walking away from the GM position. Is this the end of my GMing career? Not really. I’d love to do some more in the future when I get things settled and figured out. Don’t worry, fantasy zone isn’t going anywhere. I’m keeping that training rolling until I leave the VHL.

So there you have it. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me and a heartfelt announcement. I’m very thankful for this amazing league and the community around it. I hope I didn’t disappoint anyone during my tenure as GM. If I did, I’m so sorry. I wish I could have done more.

@Beketov, does that mean I can trade my 7th now?

    Where to start?

I appreciate @JB123 who drafted me into the Brigade in the first ever JST. He believed in me and made me captain and gave me first line minutes long before anyone else had a reason to do so. He also showed me the ropes on how to earn TPE.

I appreciate @Spartan, who allowed me to back claim some of my superfluous mediaspots as .com articles and helped me to develop my player faster due to the advice given by him. He also allowed me to GM Team World in the S82 World Cup, even though my track record as a GM at that time was anything but stellar.

I appreciate  @Gustav for his build guide I followed to the tee (except the leadership I spent before I found said guide). I do not appreciate that he turned down to be my AGM in Mississauga though (jk it was a fair and relatable reason you brought up (not that any was needed in the first place))

I appreciate @N0HBDY and @Alex who were my GM's during my VHLM season and allowed my brother and me to stick together a little bit longer after being in the Brigade. Also N0HBDY gave me the chance to act as his AGM with Mississauga and gave a warm recommendation as his successor on the GM seat.

I appreciate @Ricer13 who put trust in me and picked me in the first round for the Wranglers. He made me feel welcome from the first minute and picked Marcel (probably against better judgement) so we can stick together in the VHL. He is also eager to make sick graphics for me, whenever I have a sudden inspiration for something. His advise on building of my player and putting together lines when I was GM for the World Cup is invaluable. Also for being so good natured when pulling his leg about his beloved 'Nucks (not much opportunity though since Bruce is at the helm). His moral support when I am angry at my player for not being better and generally sucking. He always finds a way to make me see the long game.

I appreciate the lockerroom in Calgary with @Vat, @jRuutu, @tinafrombobsburgers, @Phil, @DollarAndADream , @Greg_Di, @leandrofg (also another go to gfx guy of mine), @jacobcarson877 and @Rhynex Entertainment (I am sure I forgot some people, in which case mea culpa).

I appreciate @InstantRockstar another great graphics guy whose work I admire and which asked to work some of his magic on several occasions.

I appreciate @Beketov (and the BOG as an entity) for all the hard work, most of which remains unnoticed by most of us. Also for his patience to explain me why it is a good thing to nerf the skaters in the wake of the hybrid attributes. I know I was emotional during the conversation we have had. Rest assured it was only for the passion I felt for my player and not as a critique in general on the process as such.

I appreciate the interactions with @samx and @Shindigs for the friendly banter (be it whether hot or cold sandwiches are better or which team is more of a plague real life Vasteras or real life Davos). The answers are of course cold and Davos.

There are so many wonderful people in this league and if I did not mention you does not mean you are not one of them. It means I am of a biblical age and my memory ran away with my youth.

It is about to get wholesome this theme week and I’m so excited. I’m not going get creative or anything, I’m just going to list people and say why I appreciate them. And I’m going to ping a lot of people.

@Spartan@DMaximus My First VHLM GMs, for my few games in Vegas and my Championship in Philadelphia. You guys taught me everything, and although I was just a clicker who sometimes checked the Discord and asked 0 questions, I still attribute where I am today to how you nurtured me almost 2 years ago. You gave me a love for the VHLM and mentoring new members, which I will carry with me for a while still.

@Frank Gave me my first shot at management! I have been so excited and so driven this season because of this opportunity. I have been watching the league all the time and paying attention to all of the goings-on so that I can do a good job. I love the team we’ve assembled, and I love the environment we’ve built. I also really appreciate that you keep me in the loop on everything and give me the opportunity to pitch in and feel useful. I’ve learned a lot so far and I hope to continue to learn as we go.

@dlamb@diamond_ace @DomI will be honest, I clicked my way through the VHL last go around and I don’t actually remember any of it, but I’m pretty sure you were my GMs, so you get appreciated! You all helped me solidify my argument for best backup of all time which I will proudly assume the role of regardless of what anyone says. I wish I could give you all the version of me that exists now, instead of what you got, but stumbling my way through the VHL the first time gave me what I needed to be where I am today, so thank you.

@Beketov I want to appreciate all that you’ve done in the time I’ve actually been paying attention to the league. Doing the VHLM sims last season and taking the time to talk to us and make the simming an event to attend really made me appreciate the work you do. I also love to stir up a little drama and criticize some of the ways that things work, and you always have a calm and collected response. Even if I don’t like it, or don’t agree with it, it is always respectful, well thought out and sometimes much better than what I wanted in the first place. Also, thanks for the Theme Week and sorry for not reminding you.

@KaleebtheMighty@Spaz@Brandon@badcolethetitan@der meister Literally no one cares about the VHLE. But honestly, I have started to care a little bit because of you and the energy you bring to the Red Wolves every day. I have appreciated my time spent and interactions had, and I can’t wait to see how the season ends and how we all do in the future. Praise be to Simon.

@Ricer13@Daniel Janser@Phil@Rhynex Entertainment@Eso  I have also never cared about the VHL until this season, and I have never had a locker room experience quite like Calgary’s. Every time I enter the locker room someone’s having a friendly conversation about what’s going on or when the baby is coming or what beer they’re drinking and honestly it makes my day. It helps remind me that we are really just a bunch of people hanging out and enjoying some simulation hockey together. It is all so much more important than how our little players do. I won’t get to play with all of you, but I know I’ll get to chat anytime and constantly wish I was in Europe.

@Dil You once came to a decision about me, and said I was a good member before welcoming me to general chat. I appreciate that even though Vasteras keeps beating me.

@samx I love annoying you whenever I can, which I’m sure a lot of people can understand, but I also appreciate that you do like everything for the VHL on top of all of the real-life things, and that is not only impressive but worth appreciation. Despite that, no San Diego can not simply lose. Also go Art Vandelay!

@fromtheinside We always seem to be on the same page about everything, and it is always nice to know I’m not the only one who feels strongly about how things can be made better around here. I appreciate the solidarity, and the fight you fight every day to make things better.

@Shindigs@MubbleFubbles I didn’t spend much time with you during my second stint in Vegas, but you have shaped how I view management and how I can best help new players. You are both masters in consolidating and presenting the mass of information hidden in the forums into a manageable medium. You also both have a really deep understanding of STHS and how to use it to your advantage, and I respect that a lot, although I’m not exactly appreciating it this season.

@dylanjj37 You are the definition of committing to the bit and I appreciate it. There are so many people who just want to be meta, and objectively good, but you have shown that even a gimmick can be fun and as long as you’re having fun and annoying your GM, you’re getting the full VHL experience.

@eagle_3450 Although you’re a true first gen, and I’m simply on my first time paying attention, we’ve kind of been following the same path throughout our careers so far, and it is always nice to have a “rival” who is really just your friend who is also competing against you. We dominated in San Diego together and that rally reignited my passion for the VHL, and then we both got AGM positions, played against each other a lot in the VHLE and will soon play each other a bunch in the VHL. We got drafted together, have scored at similar rates our whole careers so far, and have played in the same divisions the whole time. I wish you nothing but the best and will always appreciate the friendly competition.

@leandrofg I’m so excited to play with you next season, and you’ve really driven me to earn as much as I can, and to do as well as I can to be the best future teammate for you. It is always great to have a buddy to run alongside and you’ve got no choice now, you’re my buddy. I’ll keep pace with you if you keep pace with me. I appreciate all of the future success we’re going to have together.
@Lemorse7 Sorry this one isn’t super VHL related but I appreciate all of the effort you’ve put in to make me feel welcome in other affiliate leagues, as an extension of the VHL. I don’t understand sports, but I understand a good time and a fun locker room. Let’s go Lions!

@Plate@JCarson@Zack@weekz@Snussu@Otaznik Obviously I love all of my Marlins, but you have all put in the effort to make San Diego a fun place to be this season. You’ve all welcomed me as an AGM and kept me on my toes. You make me feel appreciated, and thus I appreciate that. I also appreciate that you’re all doing really well in the sim too. Winning is pretty fun I must say. Let’s do this thing Marlins!

@youloser1337 I feel like you’ve been super underappreciated this season. You put in so much work every week on Fantasy Zone and even caught up from last year’s Bracket Challenge payout. Although I am truly terrible at Fantasy Zone, I always do it and I always get some TPE, and I appreciate it. Keep up the good work!

@Moon@MinionThank you for always keeping general chat fun and interesting. I know you find a lot of value in the VHL community and just know we find a lot of value in you being a part of the VHL community. You always have a story to tell, and there’s always something happening to either of you, and although I do not appreciate the negative things that happen to you I do appreciate the great conversation it brings about. Also, thanks Minion for definitely reminding me to not write all of my point tasks for the week last night or I would’ve missed Theme Week.

@JardyB10 I love your podcasts so much. Although I really only listen when it involves me, I always enjoy them, regardless of length. I don’t know how you haven’t killed anyone on the road yet, but your driving skills deserve commemoration.

@rjfryman One of my favourite projects on the VHL is the Draft Class Rankings. I know you haven’t done them in a couple weeks, and you’ve had a bunch of issues, and I very much hope everything is okay with all of that. It is always great to watch your player progress over time and keep up with the careers of those around you.

And with that, I’m going to call it there. It would be really funny to drop a members tag here and say I appreciate you all, which I very much do, but I also appreciate the mods, so I won’t. Thanks to anyone who has interacted with me and lets have some good vibes this week before chaos reigns once more.

A total of 20 games were played by our Swiss Hitmen, too many to compile in an article. Therefore, we will provide summaries for the two latest each and post links for the remainder.

    6-3
In the first match Marcel's Iron Eagles clashed with the Rome Gladiators in a 6-3 win. The Italians took an early 2-0 lead, which was mitigated by Vladovechsenkchushkin's power play goal before the intermission. However, not before Marcel had a scrap with Rome's Dixon and fought him to a draw. The Gladiator was deemed by the refs to have instigated this polysportive event and was handed a game misconduct. The second period showed an inverted image of the first one, with Rome scoring one goal and Chang being successful twice. So, before the third period began, it was a tied game again. Then Elsby with a goal on a Rome penalty, Young and VAS found the back of the net and Rome had no answer to that.  Chang (2g/2a), Williams (1g/0a) and Elsby (1g/1a) were named the three stars of the game. Vasteras' backup Byrne (.889) was a smidge weaker between the pipes than his opposite number Freeze (.891) but due to the cold-blooded killers in his team, he could still pull off a win. The Iron Eagles' power play was formidable (3/7) and matched by their penalty kill (1/1).
Marcel was noted with 0g, 2a, +1, 5 PIM (Major for fighting, did not cause a pk situation), 3 hits and 3sb.

    2-3 (OT)
In the second game, against the Geneva Rush, both teams treated their fans with a thriller going in to over time, with the better end for the Swedish team. The first period was pretty uneventful and saw no goals. Geneva than scored two goals in the second, both by Richard. In the third, Bridgers, not to be outdone by Richard scored two goals for his team to tie the game. Not even two minutes were played in sudden death when Retoslav delivered the dagger with his 19th goal of the season. Bridgers (2g/0a), Richard (2g/0a) and Rockwell (0g/1a) were awarded the three stars of the night. Price (.925) had the upperhand in the duel in net, due to almost facing double the shots of his rival Gaming (.913). Vasteras' power play was okay (1/4) and their box play immaculate (3/3).
    Marcel had 0g, 0a, -1, 2 hits and 2sb to his name.

    6-4
In the first Calgary match we are reporting on, we see the Nighthawks take a 6-4 loss. The scoring started early, instigated by the Canadians, and the teams went to the locker room with a 2-2 draw. Johnson on even strength with his fortieth of the season and Kotkakoivu with his fiftieth, scored on a power play netted for the Wranglers. The middle period was again a 2-2 draw and saw two more goals of the Finnish super star and Chief-Wrangler, who now leads the league in goals as well as points and is in the top ten for the apples. He already exceeded his last year's tally by 26 points and there is no slowing down. Amongst other silverware, the Funk Trophy is in the grasp. His hattrick (his fourth of the season and worthy of an other top spot in the league) in this game obviously made a huge impact, but the dagger was delivered by Swiss sophomore Janser who first scored on a power play for the game winner followed by an even strength goal. For the first goal, Daniel and Lazeski passed the biscuit back and forth until Janser saw a shooting lane. The shot was blocked in extremis by Trenton, but Daniel picked up the lose puck and buried it top-shelf. On the second goal, Johnson dug out an orphaned disc and had two attempts on goal, but missed both. However, the second miss was deflected by Janser through Taffe's five hole for the final score. Janser (2g/2a), Kotkakoivu (3g/0a) and Johnson (1g/3a) were named three stars for this match. Dahl (.882) showed the better performance than Taffe (.860) though both netminders were rather mediocre, but only partly by their doing both teams were inconsequential in their own zone and let too much happen. Calgary's power play was decent (3/11) and the box play spotless (3/3).
    Daniel left the ice triumphant with a 2g, 2a, +0, 3 hits, 5sb and 72.09 FO%.

    4-1
In the second match, the Wranglers met the New York Americannots, in a 4-1 win. The first two periods, neither team was able to score and so the fans got antsy and demanded goals. Beach obliged with 1:45 minutes into the final period and Lazeski followed suit within eleven seconds. New York then spoiled the shut out for Dahl, which was promptly answered by Calgary with a power play goal by Daniel. Lazeski and the Swiss center carried the puck into the NY zone. Lazeski is unable to control a bouncing pass from Janser but the latter retrieves the disc again and whips it via post into the twine. Shortly after, Johnson bolstered his already impressive number with the final goal of the match. The Wranglers are sitting now on third place of the NA conference, which entitles to a direct playoff participation. The three places of honour were awarded to Janser (1g/1g), Dahl (27 saves) and Lazeski (1g/1a). Dahl (.964) was the better man in a clash of Titans in net and beat NYA's (.913) not unimpressive performance. The Albertan's power play was okay (1/4) while their penalty kill shut the door (2/2).
Daniel was noted with a 1g, 1a, +2, 2 PIM (Cross-Checking, obviously no effect on the score), 3 hits, 5sb and 59.38% success rate at the draw.

The Jansers' stats present themselves as follows:
    Marcel: 61gp, 12g, 28a, 40pts, +18, 97 PIM, 91 hits, 73sb, 4gwg, 7ppg
    Daniel: 62gp, 27g, 32a, 59pts, -10, 39 PIM, 131 hits, 121sb, 5gwg, 6ppg, 1shg, 54.94 FO%

leandrofg reacted to Daniel Janser in Daniel Janser's Rookie Experience
Daniel is sitting with a cup of tea on the balcony of his home in 1124 Bellevue Avenue at the right bank of the Elbow River in Calgary. About half a mile in the distance and to the Southeast he can spot the Saddledome, his working place for the past few months and maybe for the remainder of his career.
His train of thoughts are interrupted by a ruckus at the front door, which he leaves unlocked whenever he is home. Before he can shout down, to ask what the commotion is, he hears a familiar voice: 'Hello, someone home?'. His sister has arrived from Saskatchewan. He goes down the stairs and welcomes his youngest sibling with a bear hug.

'Hey, sis, how was the drive?'

'Release me, you big oaf.', she reverts smilingly instead of an answer followed by: 'The drive was not half bad, but I could do with a helping hand with my dunnage and a cup of coffee.'

'I am so glad, you could make it, Nicole. The kitchen is straight ahead, why don't you pour a cup of your own, while I do the heavy lifting, literally. The bathroom is just on the left, in case you want to wash your hands first.'

'Will do and then you have to tell me everything, since you came here. Nice crib, by the way, DieDie'. Daniel smiles as he hears the name Nicole used for him when she was not able yet to say 'Daniel'.

'Your room is on the right, Nic. Let me know, if you need anything.'

'Oh don't you worry I will'

    'Yeah, I know.'

Once Nicole has unpacked all the suitcases and the siblings sat down at the kitchen table with ample provision of hot beverages and cookies, Daniel starts to tell, what happened since he moved to Alberta, to report to the Wranglers: 'So, first I got to know the management and my new team mates of course. Then they showed me around on the premises. It is all on a bigger scale than at home of course, hockey has a complete different importance than back in Switzerland, as I am sure you know. Then they provided me with the address of a real estate agency, who works with them in order to find a permanent place to live. In the meantime I was booked in a hotel near the Saddledome.'

'How long did it take you to find this gem? It is near perfect for you. And you have a pool!'

'Well I was lucky really, they just finished building the place, but the guy they built it for had to dislocate to Singapore for his job, so he had to get rid of it and fast. Due to the circumstances, the house was offered cheaper than it had any right to be and there were a lot of applicants for this place.'

'So how did YOU get it? It was for sure not your natural charm.'

Daniel boxes his sister on her shoulder 'Hey, watch your mouth madam, you are a guest here. But you are right. Luckily for me, the fellow is a big Wranglers fan and so I shot right at the top of the list and got accepted.'

'So how is work?' a pouting Nicole asks her brother, rubbing her shoulder.

'Great, I made friends immediately and invited the whole squad to a house warming after I bought the place. Marcel could make it as well, he was fishing at the Lake Chicamocomico. Funny story, Gus lost all of his money while playing poker against Dex. However, Dex felt bad ripping Gus off, as he did not tell him that he grew up in a casino in Vegas, his dad being the manager of said establishment. Long story short, he returned all the money next day. By the way, I arranged an informal meet and greet with the team this afternoon, when I take you to the Saddledome. I know how hard you crush for hockey players.' This time Daniel was at the receiving end of a blow to his shoulder.

'Hey not on the moneymaker, sis', Daniel laughs and his sister starts a fraction of a second later.

'At the beginning of the season I was walking to practice, it is only ten minutes at a jog. But since I beat up Sosa earlier this season, it got increasingly more difficult to get there on time, as people recognize me on the street and ask for selfies and/or autographs. You know me, I cannot say 'no' if people ask me for a favour. For me it is no big thing and for the fans it means the world to them. I never imagined to be that famous, or rather notorious. So I started taking the bike to practice.'

'I of course watched your games, big brother. You are sporting quite the bad boy image, but are very productive for a two-way-player. If I calculate correctly, at this pace you end up scoring more points than in your first season in the VHLM.'

'Don't you jinx it. But yeah I get into fights more often and I take other penalties. At least I have not gotten a game misconduct so far and all my fights ended with the other guy sent to the sin bin as well. So I am not that big of a liability to the Wranglers. The veteran players also showed me the ropes and how to play Wranglers hockey. Especially Phil and Saku had some very useful tips for me as Johnson is a similar type of player and Kotkakoivu is a center. I still have lot to learn. My skating is in need of an update together with my offensive skills, my puck handling and my defensive positioning. So I have my work cut out for me. You know of course that I changed position.'

'Does a bear shit in the woods? The press was full of it, you fool.'

'Hey, would you look at the time, we are due to go to the stadium. Unless you want to refresh your make-up?', Daniel says with a mischievous grin.

'Did I already tell you, how much I hate you?'

'Only a million times. Let's go. I drive. Because.... I know the way.'

'Chicken. You are just scared of my fabulous driving style.'

'You are right about the scared part, it is called 'self preservation'.'

'You know, if you were not going to introduce me to a whole team of hot hockey players I would go back home immediately.'

'But I do, so you don't. C'mon we are running late.'

    1. This week hasn't been kind to us. Vasteras has extended their lead to 8 points, but we also have an 8-point lead in our conference. How are you feeling about the team?

It's unfortunate, but STHS's RNG sucks and terrible teams like Vasteras somehow get lucky. We will be OK because we are real men who don't feel emotion.

    2. We've been a little inconsistent at this half-season mark. How can we find that early season consistency?

Get better. There's no magic line changes to be made, we just need to suck less.

    3. Looking back at your player's first half of the season, how do you feel about it?

It's been mediocre and I'm quite angry with myself. Sixth round selections should be contributing more to the teams success.

    4. And what are your expectations for the remainder of the season?

To outplay what I did in the first half and lead the team to championship glory.

    5. What has been the biggest surprise of the NHL Playoffs for you?

What is the NHL? I'm too busy cutting wood and adventuring to watch any televised sport.

    6. Our GM, Frosty, is about to go on a small voyage en Belgique. Have you ever been?

No. I prefer my own company and the solitude of the snow capped mountains where I live. Except for Tintin, Belgium sucks.

    (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats)

We missed out on many games and we sincerely apologize for that. However, we are doing a quick recap and will add an interview with our intrepid youngster on their chase for glory.

Marcel's Vasteras Eagles have won the last 17 games and are head and shoulders above the competition in the VHLE with a comfortable 12 point lead over the second best team in Beardislava Bratislava. Marcel as well as Gonçalves have been regular contributors to Vasteras' succes. Marcel has a atypical high shooting percentage of 9.78% which puts him third of the team. Leandro is leading the team in game winning goals with six, which also puts him to tied second in the league, behind Calgary prospect Bob Chicoine. We are convinced this is something Wranglers' GM Ricer is happy to see, as clearly the Alberta team is in need of players being able to tip the scales in the team's favour. It also looks as Marcel can finish a season with a positive +/- rating and less than 200 shots blocked. He is leading his team in PIM though, with almost double the minutes in the sinbin as the next best Iron Eagle in that category in Bridgers.

Daniel's Wranglers struggle with consistency, but against all odds occupy a Wild Card spot at the moment. They are in a less comfortable situation than Vasteras though, as the competition is breathing down their neck and every slip up can doom the franchise to a no-post-season fate. Daniel mirrors to some extent Calgary's problems with consistency as some games he is a force and deciding games singlehandledly mixed up with phases where he is not even on the score sheet. At the time of writing this article, he is on a 45 points trajectory, which is nowhere near last year's PPG average. It seems he is on a sophomore slump. On the plus side he is not as a frequent guest in the ice box as last season and is therefore less of a liability in that respect. Kotkakoivu looks like he will easily surpass his last season's scoring. We also wish to give a shout-out to Johnson who is now the Wrangler All-Time leader in hits with approaching the 1800 hits mark (not counting the hits he delivered for the Bears).

We had an opportunity to talk to the two Swiss players. Please find the interviews as follows:

Gretta Hjalmarsdottir (GH): 'Marcel, your team is top of the league with no serious contender in sight. Are you going to win the Renaissance Cup?'
Marcel Janser (MJ): 'Hi Gretta. I do not agree that we have no contenders. As you know some of the wins we had recently were one goal affairs and it does not take much in hockey for the puck luck to turn on you. We have to work hard every night out there to get the results and if we get complacent, it will be punished. As to the other question, we play to win and that includes to go all the way and win the cup. But there are seven other teams who will do whatever it takes to win. At the moment we are in a very good position to make the playoffs and once there, everything is possible.'
GH: 'How do you judge your performance so far in your second year with Vasteras?'
MJ: 'We are much more competitive and that helps my +/- rating, which looks to be positive for the first time in my career. Unfortunately, I take a lot of penalties, something I should work on. As to date, I am roughly on track to repeat my last season's offensive output, which I am happy with, considering I am a defence first defender.'
GH: 'Will you be playing for the Wranglers next season?'
MJ: 'That is a question for Ricer, but I hope to be called up. Calgary has somewhat of a lack in defencemen, and even if I will not be a top player, I may give AirRig and Bob some relieve.'
GH: 'Ok, that is all for now. Thanks for your time and good luck.'
MJ: 'My pleasure and thanks for having me.'

Jean-Luc Lieuxperroux (JLL): 'Hi Daniel, how are you? Please summarize the Wranglers' season so far.'
Daniel Janser (DJ): 'Hi Jean-Luc. I am fine, thanks. Well, this season has been a bit of a roller coaster as we seem not to be able to get some consecutive wins together. Sometimes we lose games and do not know why, other times we win games we have no business of even being near to win, but due to individuals making a superhuman effort (namely our rookie goaltender Dahl), we still do. So we may be able to make the Wild Card spot, but it does not take much to lose same in the remainder of the regular season.'
JLL: 'And how do you summarize your personal performance thus far?'
DJ: 'I knew it will be difficult this season with the rebuild we are undergoing. There were highlights however and it started already before the first faceoff, as I was named one of the alternate captains, which is a great honour. I stay out of the box more than last season and block more shots. Also I had one SHG which certainly is nice. Last but not least, I was first star three times this season, whereas I had the same honour twice last season. And even though my scoring is not as high as it was last time around, it is more meaningful.'
JLL: 'Can you please elaborate your last statement?'
DJ: 'Of course. Last season I scored 23 goals, only one of them a game winner and we won 38 games that season. This season, I scored 19 goals so far, with three of them being game winning goals and we won only 18 games. So you can see that last season I 'secured' 2.63% of the wins, this time around it is 16.67%. I also think that my offensive output for a two-way player was inflated last year, profiting from a high scoring era which is now over, due to the rule changes made by the league in the pre-season.
JLL: 'Thanks for your insight and good luck for the remainder of the season.'
DJ: Thanks, much appreciated. Take care.'

Here are the Jansers' stats as of now:
