  1. "I pick Rushin." - One kid exclaims. "Oh come on, he's the best striker here."- Another responds. In Israel, there is no such thing as hockey. Every kid watched soccer on the TV, every kid's role model is a soccer player, and every kid plays soccer. Rushin was no different except for the fact he had a knack for scoring goals. He was a natural. He was light on his feet, speedy, and he could score goals from any and every angle. The opposing players would double-team him, sometimes even triple-team him, but still, Rushin would get by them with fancy moves and score goals for his team. There was just no stopping him. The sign had the words "Grand Opening!" printed on it. The first ice rink in Israel had finally opened. Nobody in the country had ever heard of ice skated before. The rink was packed. There was no space on the ice and everybody was losing their balance. "It looked like everybody was learning to walk again." Somebody said on the news coverage for the opening. Rushin had paid for his entrance, gotten into the rink, rented some skates, and put them on. He waddled over to the actual ice rink and put his right foot on the ice. He immediately fell. But Rushin did not give up there. He got up from his back and leaned on the side of the rink for balance. He started to move his feet and he started gliding. A light in his head lit up and he immediately knew he was meant to skate. He unwrapped his arms from the side boards and skated along the entire perimeter of the rink. Rushin felt free as if he had no barriers, no limitations. He decided he was going to skate. This was going to be his life and nobody could convince him otherwise. Once Rushin had arrived home, he received some surprising news. His family was moving to America. His dad had received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work as a programmer in America. Rushin had to put his newfound dreams on pause to pack all of his belongings up and move to America. After a month of settling down in his new home in America, Rushin decided it was time to pursue his dreams once again. He told his parents that he wanted to skate and surprisingly, his parents were very supportive. They told Rushin that they would sign him up for some lessons to learn to skate fully. The next day, it was finally time for Rushin to skate again. He entered the rink and rented some equipment out for himself. He put the equipment on and got onto the rink. His teacher stood close to Rushin to make sure that the new skater wouldn't fall but surprisingly, he didn't. It was his second time skating and he didn't fall even once. He was surprised, his parents were surprised, and his teacher was surprised. For the rest of that lesson and the next few lessons, the teacher taught him more technical skills such as skating backward, turning at sharp angles, and even jumping. Rushin quickly learned these and was able to do them with ease. One day, after school, one of Rushin's newly made friends asked him if he wanted to go watch a hockey game with him. Rushin had only heard small things about hockey and was intrigued to see it in person so he accepted the invitation. His friend's mom drove the two of them to an ice rink. But this one was much larger than the one Rushin attended for his ice skating lessons. The first whistle was blown and the two men in the middle started to dig at the black circle in the middle with the sticks they held in their hands. Rushin's friend knew it was his first game so he explained all the basic rules and even some advanced rules to him. Quickly Rushin knew about the puck and what the main objective of the game was. He watched as the puck flew from stick to stick and from stick to goal. He saw as the man in the net would perform all those acrobatic moves to keep the puck out of the goal. Rushin quickly related hockey to soccer as both sports had two teams passing an object to each other and shooting the object at the goal and trying to get it past the keeper. But hockey seemed to move so much quicker. The puck was a blur on the ice and the players looked like cars as they raced up and down the rink. BANG! One of the players was plastered along the boards. Rushin asked his friend if this was a legal move and his friend responded that in hockey, you can hit people as hard as you can. The final horn blew and one team evacuated to its dressing room and the other team got off the bench in order to congratulate its goaltender. Hockey was so intriguing to Rushin. He wondered if he would be good at hockey like how he was good at soccer. Once home, he asked his parents if they could sign him up for some hockey lessons as it was intriguing to him. They agreed and the next day they went to the local hockey equipment store to get some equipment. After consulting with the workers there and picking out the best equipment for comfort and safety, they walked out with the equipment and the receipt for a whopping 800$. In the same week, Rushin attended his first hockey lesson. Surprisingly, Rushin moved the puck with ease and was able to levitate the puck off the ice when shooting it toward the goal. Of course, with some help from the coaches there, Rushin was able to improve his form and refine his skills. A year later, Rushin was passing the puck with his teammates and shooting the puck past opposing goaltenders with ease. He was breaking school records for goals scored and points recorded. He was a beast on the ice. Nothing could stop him. Scouts had come from all over the place to watch him and recruit him to their teams. He had received his first offer. It was from the Las Vegas Aces. They were in need of a winger and believed that Rushin was a perfect fit. Rushin was so excited and thankful to have the opportunity to play hockey full time and after meeting up with the general manager of the team, it was a no-brainer for Rushin to join the team. He signed his contract and was immediately welcomed to the team. This coming season will be his first season with his team and his first season as a professional hockey player. He hopes to come out strong and impress early.
