  1. The Malmo Nighthawks shocked the league last season when they came away with the Victory Cup, but their season came crashing to an end in the playoffs when they were swept by the London United. The roster was facing some question marks coming into the off-season, but after everything has settled, the team looks very similar to the one from a season ago. Some players have come and gone, but they retain their identity as a team that relies on production from top to bottom rather than a few stars. For the forwards, there are two big changes. First, the Nighthawks lost their leading goal scorer Henry Eagles to free agency, replacing him with Gregger McKeggegger via a trade with Riga. The other five forwards all remain, but the second big change is the big hit of regression that has befallen Yaroslav Bogatyrev. Eagles and Bogatyrev have been key pieces of this offense the past couple of seasons, so someone will have to step up and fill the void. Look for a strong second season from Phillip Rave, and a breakout year for Savaisk Tzesar as the opportunities should be aplenty. On defense, superstar Jacob Stone will continue to lead the way, though his primary linemate from last season, Jebediah Big Ol Doinks in Amish, is gone. Coming in is Eric Queefson who, like the other newcomer McKeggegger, hadn't exactly broken out with their former teams. Reese McFleury and Conference Prince-de-Galles are back with the team and once again look to be one of the top second units in the league. Ash Sparks is back in net for his fifth season as the Nighthawks starting goaltender. He had a bounce back year last season, and he looks to be among the league leaders once again this season. Backing him up is rookie Karl Herzlich, a player who could give Malmo a bit of an edge that could make a difference. Although he doesn't have the skills yet to be a solid starter, he does look like one of the better backup goalies in the league.
  2. 1. Top three in the conference, and I'd say we have a chance to compete for another Victory Cup. I think people are going to underrate us going into the season again due to the loss of Eagles and the regression of Bogatyrev, but I still think we are a top tier team. 2. Welcome to the team! Expectations are high as we look to compete for a cup, so you better not let us down. 3. Take home all three of the top defender trophies and make the VHL 1st team. And most importantly, win playoff MVP. 4. Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk 5. Tragedy + Time by Rise Against 6. Definitely have to say London. I have the as the best team in the league, and come playoff time, Jesse Teno will be an issue.
  3. All I'm saying is if we're gonna use these goofy ass ratios then at least make them work properly
  4. Applying TPE to my player, if I put OV at 96, SS at 80, and WS at 80, it is showing my SC at 87 but it should be 88 according to math OV = 96 * .30 = 28.8 SS = 80 * .12 = 9.6 WS = 80 * .12 = 9.6 28.8 + 9.6 + 9.6 = 48 = base 40 = 88
  5. Your analysis of cap space (at least with regards to Malmo) is incorrect, because it doesn't factor in the extra cap space we get for a backup goalie.
  6. 1. Antonia Bucatini 2. Trying to implement fatigue in the VHL. Even just testing to see if it is a viable option. 3. I don't much care for it. I don't even think I paid attention at all the last time I had a player in the JST. I can see how it might be appealing to newer members though, so I wouldn't suggest we get rid of it. 1. What is your go-to snack? 2. Do you have any party tricks? 3. What type of career would you prefer: be an average-at-best player with four championships, or a cupless four-time MVP?

  8. @LastGoon007
  9. Yeah, I understand the intent, but I would just call them draft exempt players.
  10. The TPE I missed is easy enough to get back, I just want the question to be right!
  11. That would suggest that a drafted player who becomes GM could have then left the team. That wasn't the case. Jukka Hakkinen was a GM player when James was GM of New York, because he had to stay on the team.
  12. That defense in front of Jesse Teno? 0 goals allowed.
  13. https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/scoop111/episodes/boo-trivia-e2goa9m I got a trivia question "wrong" but I actually got it right. Listen to me talk about it. Or don't. I don't care. I get my 3 TPE either way. @N0HBDY I assume you are in charge of the trivia, since you handed out TPE for questions that were used. I strongly believe that the answer for this question is incorrect. @Victor You normally do some great work, buddy, but your GM players spreadsheet ain't it. First of all, "GM players" includes more than just the players who joined a team via the GM rule. But even if that's what we are going to say "GM players" means, your list is still lacking. It doesn't show Sebastian Ironside as being in the Hall of Fame, and it doesn't include Mike Szatkowski Jr., who was a GM player however you define it. There could be more omissions, but I was only focused on the Hall of Famers. It wouldn't be a big deal, but someone submitted a trivia question using this as a source, I assume, so false information is being spread. I don't like that.
  14. Glad to see people are catching the important part.
  15. In the Season 92 playoffs, the London United faced off against the Victory Cup winners in Round 2. London had struggled mightily against them during the regular season, beating them just once and being outscored 11-23 in the six matchups. Despite this, the United pulled off an incredible sweep. The last time a team swept the Victory Cup winners in the playoffs was all the way back in Season 30, before the league's first ever expansion. It was the Calgary Wranglers who did it back then, and unlike the United of this year, they went on the win the Continental Cup. Due to league records being lost from the first 19 seasons, I was unable to find if it had happened before (the information could probably, but the indexes aren't available so I wasn't going to do extra research). The only other seasons it might have happened are 6, 9, 15, and 17. Although London was not able to translate this historic accomplishment into a Continental Cup victory, it is still something that is trivia-question worthy. Then again, based on some of the trivia questions that I've seen, another potential trivia question might be "What was the fourth word in the title of the VHL.com Article claimed for the week ending March 03, 2024 for Jacob Stone?" The answer, of course, would be "feat".
  16. 1. Maybe it's because the playoffs are fresh on my mind and I am on one of the teams involved, but I think the collapse of the best regular season teams in the playoffs is up there. The lower seeds won 3/4 of the matchups in Round 2. The Victory Cup-winning Nighthawks didn't win a single playoff game, and neither of NA's top two teams were able to get to a Game 7. 2. It can be kind of hard to follow the action when watching NHL games. If broadcasts would highlight the puck with a glow, I think it would attract more viewers. Yeah, for sure. That would definitely be a good idea. Honestly though, I just don't think it ever will be. Hockey is far less accessible, so I don't see it happening. 3. Nah. 1. What are your goals for your player next season? 2. Are there any teams in the VHL that you always want to see succeed? 3. Do you think there are any ways in which the off-season could be improved? Such as shortening it if possible, or adding any sort of activities?
  17. Nah man, you'll be required to make an effort to sign my 99 LD/99 PS/35 everything else goalie or the league will punish you.
  18. That's why I would also like to see the league explore the possibility of implementing fatigue into the sim, making it advantageous for teams that have a second goalie, or a deeper roster in general.
  19. No, I'm not. But I'm suggesting that you shouldn't be able to gut your roster of 4/10 of your skaters if you aren't even going to make an attempt to add more bodies to your team. And if you do, you should be punished in the same way that a team starting their slightly worse than their starter bot goalie would be. Imagine a situation where there are no goalies available in free agency, and a team trades away it's only goalie and doesn't receive one in return. How would the league feel about that?
  20. Yeah, it would eliminate the requirement, but like you said it, it creates a point where if a goalie plays in too many games consecutively, then they will get to the point where the backup is just straight up a better option. That's what I'm imagining, anyway. Again, I don't know how it all actually functions in STHS, but this would give teams a reason to actually give a backup human goalie more than 8 starts.
  21. Yeah, I don't like reading so I stopped after the first bit apparently.
  22. To me, it really depends on how fatigue/endurance work in STHS and how much control we have over the balancing of it. Keep in mind, I don't have much an idea how it works, but here is the description of the Endurance attribute from the STHS manual "If a player's is send on ice when he's fatigue, this stat is used in the formula to decide if all stats for this shift will be lower than normal." If we can keep playing time the same, but make players with lower Endurance just overall worse players when they are fatigued, then I think it would be a fun change to the league, and I believe it would be a benefit to the max earners.
