Returning to practice is never easy for someone who's always gone through practice. That much is true, and it shows with Martinez and his attitude over the last few weeks, being one of complacency. The Maryland rookie who's camping out in Mexico City after being drafted, since he hasn't been called up, is mostly looking at finding a way to get back into the swing of things, but it doesn't seem like the best option ever. Right now, he's giving Mexico City 10 points over 8 games, which is pretty good; more than one point a game, and 15% of his shots are going in. He finds himself in a not quite unique situation; a mental block. He wants to move to practice, however he's limited by the person who writes the articles for him, and as a result, he's falling farther and farther behind. Whether due to a lack of self-discipline or because of a waning interest, the person who writes these is getting slower and slower, with less and less time on their hands and less and less to talk about. That doesn’t matter for Martinez, however, who’d just come back from vacation and was ready to practice. Donning the Mexico City logo on his jersey, he skated back onto the ice and returned to practice himself, whether his creator would let him or not. It was almost instant. Going from nothing to something is hard, but once you reach that something, it feels like it gets easier and easier to achieve that something that you want to accomplish, and that’s why Martinez is going to work hard. If not for himself, then for his team. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Martinez split off with the rest of the group after practice had ended, putting earbuds into his ear and walking around Mexico City. He’d been wanting to do this for a while, just walk around. Something he missed about most places is that he couldn’t easily walk around to find some stores, but that was alright. A lot of the world was industrialized anyways, why would he care this much? He held his gear in a duffel bag, slung around his shoulder for efficiency. Maybe it wasn’t the most efficient for his shoulders, but it was better than dragging the bag along the ground. He was listening to one of those dumb YouTube playlists from a few years ago that was usually about feeling like a villain or some dumb shit like that. It was just something he could listen to without having to check his phone, so… that was also efficient. He was enroute to a Denny’s to grab a bite. On his way, he could’ve sworn he saw someone peeking out by the corner that he was supposed to turn. It looked like a girl, dirtied and maybe afraid based on posture. As he turned the corner, though, he found no trace of this girl. What the hell happened to her? Was he hallucinating? Maybe this hallucination is what he gets for pushing himself too hard. Oh well, that’s alright. He continued on his journey to the Denny’s.

S97 Mexico City Kings team awards
SleepyPlayz replied to VattghernCZ's topic in VHLM Team Announcements
Aw, well thank you! I appreciate it! -
Oh shoot, no one (well, I think 3 people) told me Martinez got drafted?! And 5th too, what? I feel honored, thank you for having faith in me and sorry that I didn't get any TPE in for one entire week lol I appreciate the faith in me that D.C. has, and thank you for the GMs who reached out to me for, well, reaching out and asking! I appreciate your questions and interest! In about 3 days I’ll be back in the US, so I’ll be more consistent with TPE earning, but it’ll be something when I’m able to earn TPE, that’s for sure! I’m not going to stress myself on earning it as I usually don’t, but if it ever feels like I’m starting to stress myself out, check in and tell me that taking a break is fine! I might need to hear it since it’s something I don’t really think about!

Martinez found himself in the middle of a long streak of luck, with the Mexico City Kings having made the playoffs. He wasn't expecting that, but he was pretty happy with the result since he wasn't expecting a playoff appearance at all. As such, he decided a celebration was in order, and celebrated he did—a little too much. As a break in his routine, he got out a planner, making sure he had a week off. He’d still practice, somewhat. It’s mostly practice against friends and people who he knew, but practice was still practice. With this week-break in his schedule, he knew he wanted to visit the Philippines again. His computer was in his lap the next minute, and opening it, he rushed to create a new tab to get himself booked for a flight. He didn’t mind the cost, it was pretty good, all things considered. He picked out the cheapest yet shortest flight he could find, going to Manila since that’s the biggest airport and the one he trusted. It was something like 28 hours at about $1215 for the ticket. He was ready to get out there and find his friend again. His friends were his life, and he would do whatever he could to visit them. That’s something he promised to them when he left for Canada first; he’d be there as soon as he could, as soon as he got time off. Although he forgot about that during his stay in Canada, he wouldn’t be forgetting that with his stay in Mexico City. He found himself kind of scared, kind of happy, a smile on his face as he packed up his bags. He landed on the 14th, firstly because it was the cheapest, secondly because it was a multiple of 7, which meant it was easier to know when he was scheduled to leave. He made sure it was a week, and only a week, and promised himself and the coaching staff in Mexico City that he would practice at least twice during that stay. He was unfortunately incorrect; he wouldn’t practice whatsoever for the week he was in the Philippines despite reporting that he did. He, in fact, did the bare minimum; he played for 2 hours against his friends, which barely counts as practice, but they still played a pretty decent game, similar to the one in America. The boys had fun, and that’s all that mattered to them. Martinez, especially, found himself in a bit of a pinch. He remembered around noon on day 6 of his trip that he promised at least 2 days of practice, around 12 hours. He didn't want to do that now, he wanted to be with his friends, but he also didn’t want to practice hockey for 10 more hours in one day despite loving the sport. He couldn’t think of another way to get out of it besides lying though. He’d probably say he forgot to log a few hours of practice but he felt like he’d definitely be killed if he said he didn’t practice whatsoever. Oh well…

Girlie I'm so sorry but the way the last part reads is like, "people don't want you to burn yourself out and stick around in this community" lol I get what you meant! Thank you!

1. I haven't officially given Martinez a nickname but I have come up with like, two. One was Ace, just because it's simple but kinda memorable. The second was Skyrider since the place where I'm making Martinez from is named the City in the Sky (Antipolo I'm pretty sure!) 2. Samsung vs Apple, I think! 3. Cold showers for a month, but the month is July in pretty hot weather! Ask 3: 1. If you haven't been drafted, are you anxious to see where you end up? If you have been, are you anxious to see where your friends end up? 2. What game keeps you motivated to play it for as long as possible? 3. With how far you are into your career, do you think current you can face off with your ideal prime you in the VHL?

Hi! Something about the draft just hit me harder than a truck and it's one of the few things on my mind right now, I'm kinda scared for the draft. With how high I've been rated on a few draft boards, I don't want to disappoint people but I feel like if I do go high, I'll have a ton of expectations placed on me for some reason. It's a mental thing more than a league problem! It mostly started recently with me taking a look at my recent earnings and not seeing perfect scores. It made me kinda sad that I was going to disappoint someone, but I think... aside from last week? I've been pretty good at earning a solid 10 TPE each day! Hopefully that helps calm me down lol

Writing scripts and writing novels, two big things that someone can do that requires a lot of effort. Of course, putting in 100% of your effort into that one thing will eventually discourage someone else from writing for other sources. Writer's block has been hitting Agustin hard, and he didn't know what he wanted to write for his next podcast whatsoever. What could he do, after all? He was just someone who knew very little about what to talk about. He was a follower, in someone's eyes. He sighed, looking up at the ceiling. How did he want to go about this? He wondered to himself, closing his eyes and leaning back. Hm... maybe he'd be able to audibly "visualize" his words, so to speak. That's helped him with many of his essays, and he knew that it'd help him out now. He restored his own faith in his writing skills with a little pep talk, the faith in himself flowing again. He felt it. Now, what did he want to talk about? "There are a lot of things I can talk about... I guess I can talk about the most relevant thing to me, the draft." He muttered. The draft was fast approaching, and he needed something to make of it. Something that could help him out, big time. Oh, he knew just what to do. He began typing. "'The draft is an important time to us all.' Wait, no... the draft is important... but it's not important to everyone. How about... 'the draft is important to those who'... who what? Who want to be in the VHL, I guess. 'The draft is an important time for those who wish to be drafted into the VHL. It's something that's a guarantee. Whether it's a teammate of mine, former or not, or for me in general, I think all of us are excited for the draft.' Now, do I talk about actually looking at the mock drafts made by more professional people, or do I make my own based off of those mocks? I guess I can just admit to it, can't I? Yeah, I can. 'Finding yourself on a mock draft is pretty exhilarating, and this goes tenfold when you're in the top of the draft as opposed to those lower on the list. Of course, as someone who browses his position a lot, I can confidently say that I'm very much happy with how people view me, even if they might be wrong about some aspects about me. You can look at CIA's S98 Mock Draft or Thunder's S98 Draft in terms of the floor these players have. One thing you may notice? I'm in the top five in both. Of course, Thunder wrote something brief on me, as I expected, since I'm not the most well known person in the industry. CIA, however, wrote something fun about me; I was similar to Lucy Leitner, someone way above my skill level, going into her 5th season. She's been a consistent player, and I'm surprised to be compared to someone. Hopefully the comparison doesn't mean if I fail, I get boos and everyone hates me.' Wait, that sounds kind of like I'm asking for pity, doesn't it? Now about, instead, 'Hopefully, the comparison doesn't bring in people who look up at me highly. That'd be a real shame for me, since I'm not quite the same player as Leitner.' There, that sounds a lot better. Now that we've talked about the main stuff, what about some filler? Something about… oh, I know. ‘It’s an honor to be ranked highly, and to any curious teams out there, I’d be more than happy to play for you. Just, make sure you let me know that you exist beforehand, I’m not trying to get myself out there by being confused.’ Alright, now let’s just compile it into something that looks professional and readable… And so, he did. He took the Word document that he was working on and he highlighted over the underlines he’d added. They were just “delete this, this makes no sense,” or something along those lines. It was an indicator that he was making something that he probably should at least mildly consider changing the wording of to make him not look like an idiot. He might as well be an idiot for trusting the words of those on the internet, but he didn’t care. He wanted to get something out there after silence. And so, he wrote… “'The draft is an important time for those who wish to be drafted into the VHL. It's something that's a guarantee. Me, former teammates on the Wild to my current teammates here in Mexico City, and the rest of the eligible VHL draftees. We’re all excited to prove to the world that we belong, and we do indeed belong. Finding yourself on various mock drafts is exhilarating, and this goes tenfold for any top ten position on the draft. As someone who browses his position in mock drafts a lot, since I’m very curious where I end up, I’m very happy about how people view me as a talent. Even if they’re wrong about some aspects of me, it’s fun to see write ups of you as a person from outside perspectives instead of your own. You can look at CIA's S98 Mock Draft, a place where you can see actual draft positions, or Thunder's S98 Draft in terms of the floor these players have. Of course, I'm in the top five in both lists. Thunder wrote a brief summary on me, expected since I’m not the best known prospect outside of pure skill, but CIA wrote up something interesting that I had to talk about; that I’m like Lucy Leitner, someone who’s way above my skill level and is going into her 5th season. I’m honored to be compared to someone that highly rated, but I hope it doesn’t bring too high of expectations. That'd be a real shame for me, since I'm not quite the same player as Leitner. Of course, to finish this off, it’s an honor to be ranked highly, and to any curious teams out there, I’d be more than happy to play for you. Just, make sure you let me know that you exist beforehand, I’m not trying to get myself out there by being confused.” He clicked Control and P to print out the script, then got ready with his microphone. He cleared his throat…

CIA’s Long, Probably Wrong S98 Mock Draft
SleepyPlayz replied to CowboyinAmerica's topic in Media Spots
Ooh, yay! Top 5! -
I am not late to this, you're just early to it! I looked through Mexico City's playoff run because I remembered to actually check stats instead... not! So with further delays to inflate the word count, lemme get maybe probably get started! Game 1: MEX vs HFX, HFX win Halifax won this game 2-1 with their two goals being made in period two! Martinez himself earned 1 point with 1 assist and a -1 +/- and 2 shots. Spallsy McDavid was the only player with a goal in this game, so... fun! Game 2: MEX VS HFX, HFX win Another game where Mexico City scores 1 and Halifax scores 2, Martinez took 3 shots and that was the most notable things to his game, and it looks like Arochimaru Shahar got the game started with the first goal! Game 3: HFX vs MEX, HFX win Last two games saw Halifax and Mexico a shooting around the same, around 20 shots for Mexico City and 30 shots for Halifax. This game, Halifax shot 49 and Mexico City, 27 in a double overtime. 1 assist gets Martinez 1 point and a 0 +/- for the game! He had 9 shots this game! Game 4: HFX vs MEX, HFX win Now, the shots have been pretty much the same the entire series, or relatively the same, right? Well... game 4, Mexico City just gave up! 40 shots from Halifax against 7 from Mexico City! Spallsy McDavid had a good shot in the 2nd period, yes, but that was really it! Martinez had 1 point, being 1 assist, a +/- of 1, and 1 shot! So adding this up... Martinez had... 15 shots, 3 points, 3 assists, a +/- of -1 I think? I think he did fine for his first VHLM playoff appearance! Maybe I'm being a little dumb though!

1. I haven't been following the VHL playoffs but after looking through everything, I'm proud of them! Wait, maybe this is what Vatt meant when he said I should vote for at least one bottom team winning... 2. Player-first for a different reason than personal achievements, that reason is: I just wanna have fun! When I get settled in after my first player (hopefully!), then I'm fine with team-first! 3. praise go brrt... no, but seriously! I think that praise is a bit more of a mot ivator, but occasionally, you need criticism on your builds! You might be doing something so wrong that everyone hates you! Ask 3 (Only have to answer 3, remember that !): 1. What's your favorite short story? 2a. How can the message from your favorite short story apply to you? 2b. How can the message from your favorite short story apply to your VHL player? 3. Does your player like snow days?

If the Kings didn't have the last game, I could so call this reviewing the last game of the season as well as another! Oh well, close enough! Games 358-359: Game 358: Las Vegas Aces vs Mississauga Hounds The Hounds, doing their best, face up against the Las Vegas Aces and came out of the gates swinging with 12 shots in the first period, though that drastically decreased to 3 and raised a little bit to 7 come periods 2 and 3. They shot for a total of 22 times, 3 more than the Aces, though they ended with the loss in this game. Period 1 was a shooting fest for the Hounds, yes, but the Aces, who shot a total of 4 times this period, had one made shot from Albin Aldgard, the only shot that period to actually contribute to a goal. That leaves Las Vegas with a 25% goal to shot ratio. Period 2 saw no goals and a penalty on Ethan Ashcroft for hooking, though 10 shots total, 7 from the Las Vegas Aces and the Hounds yet to score a goal! In the final period, Period 3, both the Hounds and Aces made a goal, though the Aces made 3 of their 8 while the Hounds made 1 of their 7. Manuel Ceson, Kazuma Satou, and Raoul Cyr near the end of the game, made goals. Again, Ashcorft gets a penalty for delaying, but so do David VanHousen for slashing, Danny ross for interference, and Peter Venkman for tripping. I'd say Albin deserves the second place of the three stars, getting the first goal and though maybe not securing a win, starting a trend of making goals for the Aces! Game 359: Saskatoon Wild vs Ottawa Lynx Canada, eh? Ottowa and Saskatoon battled it out in a slightly more chaotic match, having 46 total shots between the two teams and only one made goal! In Period 1, the Lynx and Wild shot 18 total times, the Lynx with 13 of those shots, and making 1 goal. This one goal would be the only goal that was score in the entire game, and it was by Fortnite Moneygang. There were a total of 3 penalties; 2 on Captain Nugget Jr. from the Saskatoon Wild, for roughing and slashing and 1 on Maximillion Pegasus, who's on the Lynx, for hooking. Following that was 16 total shots, none of which falling, though there were 4 penalties here. 2 bots got penalties for holding and tripping, Brigitta Sandstrom on Saskatoon whoa got a hooking penalty, and Vincent Martines from Ottawa got himself a slashing penalty. And after that came the last period, no goals in 12 shots, though a hell of a lot of penalties still! We have 3 bot penalties and 1 actual player penalty! Of those 3 bot penalties, we have high sticking on two bots and hooking on one of the bots that the high sticking penalty. We also have Kyle Evans on Ottawa for hooking. Of course, the one goal is the most deserved of recognition, but blocking 16 shots is still some pretty impressive work for Vladimir Trunov from the Lynx!

1. I'd say that one of my friends would be a fun fit here, though they don't really do sim leagues and I'm a little too lazy to walk them through the SBA and VHL at the same time lol 2. No! But that's because I already have more than enough stickers on my laptop and on my PC! 3. Probably, it'd be a neat little thing to wear! Imagine walking around with a Prague Phantoms jersey. That'd get some people to ask you questions I'm sure! If not, I'd at least frame it lol Ask: 1. If you were to make a game when the VHL makes it to 100 seasons, would you? It'd be about the VHL and mostly promo material! 2. What's the best and worst season to get into ice hockey as a sport? 3. What's your favorite brand? From local brands to much bigger corpa brands, any work!

Hello chat! I don't know hockey stats so I wanted to compare with someone on the NHL website because I'm a bit dumb when it comes to scoring hockey players. Of course I won't be including the Saskatoon stats because they're not important to the overall Martinez outlook, plus I wanted to compare the season he actually played more than 20 games in! Let's compare him with... dah-da d-da... Reilly Smith from the New York Rangers! And finding a year where the two played similar amounts of games... So right off the bat, in technical terms, Martinez is a bit better when it comes to generating points with 56 points total against 2019 Reilly Smith, who had 53. Reilly had a better +/- though, meaning he was a much better on-ice influence rather than Martinez, which makes sense given his defensive skill! Martinez though, had 58 penalty minutes (I think that is!) compared to Smith who had 14 total. That's 44 less than Martinez! The two shared the same PPG and SHG, which I'm pretty sure is just short-hand goals and points per game! Smith had 1 game winning goal though, while Martinez had 5! That's something neat! Uh... overall, Martinez is a prospect for sure! This is around... 8 or 9 seasons into Reilly's career vs Martinez who's just a rookie, I literally just tried to find around 70-75 games played and found I think 2 results one after the other (2019 and 2020)!

As his last season with Mexico City draws near, the VHL draft coming up soon, Martinez finds that he's uncertain about his future. While on one end, he understands what might be happening to him as he transitions into the VHL and potentially, physically, but the thought of making new friends in a new place, whether in Europe or in the Americas still, slightly annoys him. Mexico City was a nice adventure, and he'd give it that. One of the most prevalent memories that he could remember was diving in the Gulf of Mexico. One of the few things he enjoyed doing outside, as the atmosphere was quite nice, was diving. He could remember his first, and most terrifying experience. In Canada, he would most often ice skate, being used to skating on ice from being an ice hockey player, but getting in extra practice was a good idea for him. He learned how to balance better, though he wasn’t much faster than before. He was about the same, still getting used to the ice, and whatnot. He did end up being a much better skater in form, he just had to get used to the ice. Sure, he only played in Saskatoon for 13 games, but those 13 games were more than enough to get him a pretty decent 3 points on 19 shots. They were also more than enough to get him more used to the ice for his next season in Mexico City It was summer, the fifth day he was there. He was adjusting to Mexico pretty quickly, he already had more than enough for an entire year’s worth of casual outfits. That was the big difference between Mexico City and Canada; the outfits he had in Canada were often few and far between, and for appropriateness as well, Martinez found himself having to buy new clothes. Once he was able to move, though, he more or less threw out any excess jacket and sweaters that he wouldn’t need. He found himself wanting to do something on the off-day he had, so what did he do? He bought a ticket to be on a scuba diving line, wanting to experience more of this place. He had more than enough money, and now he had something to do with it that was slightly more productive. His first diving experience was oddly terrifying. He was told to keep up with the instructor and the people in his group were doing just fine at that. His issue, though, was he wasn’t picking up enough speed to actually follow along with them, which was odd, since he felt like he was doing just fine in the swimming. Maybe it was just his form, so he naturally tried to speed up. This failed, however, and he was slowly being left in the dust. It was only when the instructor paused to show the people something that he saw Martinez lagging behind, pushing forward as hard as he could. He was helped out of the water, and put back onto the boat. After getting back on the boat, his heart still slightly pounding from the effort he put into his swimming, he took off his helmet and sighed loudly. He was sopping wet from the ocean, and aside from that, he was slightly terrified he was going to be left behind. Somehow, skating strength doesn’t turn into swimming strength.

Hi! Do not be alarmed, I'm not losing motivation! I just wanted to ramble about this! Martinez, like any player, is someone who I treat as his own separate entity in a way. He exists in a multiverse of my own creations, and that's what drives me to make my stuff. In other leagues, Zoe is the product of thinking of an heir to the Clarke throne in the SSL, and Moore is just me, but cis rather than trans, problems and everything. I'm sure I could include some of my friends' characters with their permission as a sort of hang out event, they've got characters with interesting names. It'd be a mix of league related story telling and, well, showing off my friends and their characters. I've been told I'm amazing at characterizing one of my friend's characters already, so I'm sure I can do more with other characters and their base personalities. Do I have the time to do that right now? The short answer is yes, I do have the time. I go to classes and worry at home for the most part, that's how it's been for the last 3-ish weeks, but I do have free time when I'm not researching one way ticket prices, I do try to write a bit. I mean, I can write like 2000 characters in 5 minutes if I'm quick about it! Anyways sorry for this, just needed to write about this and wanted to be kinda silly!
-
1. I didn't know that was the limit! I honestly think that it's alright, though I'd like to play for 10 seasons in the VHL at some point! It's understandable though lol 2. I'd like to witness the rise and fall of the VHLE! 3. I like it! It's a neat little thing! Ask 3: 1. What are your plans for today? 2. How far do you think someone with a lack of motivation but all the time in the world will get vs someone with limited time, but a hell of a lot of motivation? 3. What's your top travel destination, and why? 3b. (If you want to answer this silly question!) Why is it New Zealand?

Would it be fine if I made an article on silly trades?
-
I used Photoshop in school, I have to say, Photopea is an amazing equivalent if you know what you're doing!
-
My general flow was interrupted randomly at some point in the day when I got a notification on my phone from what felt like the worst app to be on. Twitter. Hell on earth for most people. I rushed back to the apartment I had and quickly turned on the microphone to start recording a podcast. "Hello one, hello all, my name is Agustin Martinez, and I'm here with a story. Now, this isn't just any story, it's a weird, silly story, and it's centered around one of the biggest points in most sports; the trade deadline. While yes, trading is important to some people, a minority of those few seem to seem to put a huge importance on trading. Of course, Rome isn't built in a day, and sometimes you can build up an empire with a few good pieces, but generally, I feel like some people put a huge importance on trades when they join a team's management. While I don't fully understand any of this, since I'm a literal fucking teenager, the idea of trades has been on my mind for a while. I have the power to single-handedly ruin a franchise, and maybe, I just might. And, anyways, let's get onto that story." I turned in my chair, an audible squeaking sound heard. I sighed and put my hand on my head, trying to remember that story I wanted to tell. After rambling about trades, I just forgot it at random. Sorry, I make the rules here. Anyways..." Now, was the hard part. What franchises did I hate the most, despite having zero opinion on any of them besides the Riga Reign, who I despised? "My first trade idea to ruin the league would be: Vancouver trades... uh... Pierre Marc Bouchard to the D.C. Dragons for You're Not Fucking Retiring. Maybe that's the most balanced trade out there actually... How about we add Vancouver's first? VAN 1st and Pierre Marc Bouchard for YNFR! How does that sound for ruining teams? Then uh... I heard Los Angeles and New York hate each other so how about we trade away Taylor Swift to the Mediterranean, since I hate her, and also trade Joseph Dubois and the 2nd round Los Angeles pick for New York's Maxim Anisimov! Since Los Angeles is last in the conference, that'll surely spice up New York's roster and also somehow, Los Angeles. Let's just dump Riga into the seas. And by that, I mean... I don't mean... but I do mean? Let's trade someone to Warsaw. How about we trade Axle Gunner and Tim Robinson and their first pick, just because I hate them, to the Warsaw Predators for Montgomery Burns. That's it. That's the trade." What else could I do that didn't involve me taking out a somewhat big chunk of a team and place it onto another? Let's try to move on from the absurd moves... "What about trading... Jack Dickins and Erik Thorvaldsson on Prague to HC Davos for... their third round pick and... uh... J-Johnny Tsunami I guess? I don't know, I'm just a lil guy, a lil goob. Don't come after me for these, these are purposefully bad. Thank you, good night!." And with that, recording had stopped. I uploaded this to Spotify, titled it appropriately; "How Do I Ruin You," then I laid back in my bed and sighed.

For a little bit of context, I've been combining the SSL and SBA's storylines and I've tried to with the VHL, since Martinez is one of the... I guess, "core" players who I'm happy with, but I don't know if his story should be after, before, or during the SBA and SSL's story since I don't know what's going to happen to October's career in the SBA nor Zoe's in the SSL, but it's still fun to have storylines collide. For the next article I did that was worth 6 TPE, I wanted to highlight Martinez and Zoe hanging out and that was my sort of way of attempting to combine timelines, but now I'm curious if people would be fine with reading something like that from me, or if I should keep the VHL separate from the SSL and SBA! I have an entire timeline too, to highlight when each player was born in this timeline if I ever get confused!
