This feels like when I was a closeted Runescaper at your age. I finally had to come out when I wanted to buy the premium version so I could unlock the rest of the map. I got a LOL NO answer from my dad and we never spoke of the R word again. Moral of the story: it’ll be more than a few years before you ever get the donation perks

HAHAHA SAME…  it was only $5 too… I really wanted those free masks that came with premium.

Straight up no and one of the shortest phone calls we’ve had 😭

Also this is probably silly coming from someone who is irrationally private about my VHLing, but have you considered explaining to your parents that you are part of a fun, mostly healthy wholesome Internet community that would be sad to see your activity dwindle?

Hell I'm 21 and I got yelled at by my parents for donating in the last charity drive we had here, and I had to brush it off as a hockey blog/site running donations for a good cause. I don't know how many parents actually understand that internet communities can be wholesome and safe, but at least for me, it's not that simple.

yea I remember asking my parents for like 5-10 bucks for the drive and they were like 'fuck no it's a scam'

like, I find parents don't understand that not every website's sole purpose is to make money. Even when I told my dad there weren't any ads on the site, he still wouldn't do it. I don't get it

I got the "if you want to donate, donate through the actual organization so you can turn it into a tax write off - be smart with your money"

wasn't there also an option to show a screenshot of a direct donation to the organization?

There was, but I'm also really not looking to turn 5 bucks into a tax write-off lol. If I was donating a significantly large amount, then maybe. 5 bucks is like 2 and a half fewer iced teas. I'll live.

In the Socialist Republic of Canadia, it’s got to be a minimum of $20 to a registered charity to get a tax break. They’d be close to losing money on a $5 credit card transaction.

Did you explain to them that a tax write off isn’t shit compared to a doubles week?

What do you fear their reaction would be if they found out you were on an Internet forum? They’d take your phone away and ground you or something like that?

yes, plus cascading lack of trust and overprotection with anything related to the internet

i have no phone. if they found out i was on here, they would also likely find out i am on youtube regularly. so, basically what spartan said is right on the nose.

playstation. i probably could do youtube if i asked them and only watched people who don't curse (what my 8yo brother does without the asking before part) but not during school hours. i also really like to read, and i sometimes make fake hockey leagues in notebooks.

edit: oh also i only get an hour of playstation per day and half to do almost an hours worth of chores beforehand

Well that’s not too bad then, reading is cool, as is having an imagination.

For real I’m a big fan of taxes and believe they’re so important to maintaining a functioning society because government is the only organization spends money on essential but not-profitable things
