The Past Few Games

The Mexico City Kings of the VHLM currently are holding down one of the top spots in the league, and they have the stats to prove it. They have 68 points, which is tied for 3rd overall with the Philadelphia Reapers. Let's take a look at some of their past games:

:mck:Mexico City Kings vs. Philadelphia Reapers:phi:

Here was a game between a couple of the best teams in the VHLM. Expect a close one. In the 1st Period, Mexico City's Luke Pastrnak scored his 22nd of the season to put the Kings up 1-0. At the 11:37 mark, Watson Stonebridge doubled Mexico's lead to 2-0, with his 12th of the season, and Deke Rike's 52nd assist. The 17-8 shots of the 1st period clearly were the reason that the Kings took a 2-0 lead. In the 2nd Period, the Reapers player Drakon Zabastovka scored his 4th of the season on a PP, to bring the game to 2-1. But, Mexico City fired back, going on their own PP only a minute later, where Rhys Trenton scored his 26th of the season. Chances were had both ways, but late in the period with 30 seconds left, Luke Pastrnak scored his 23rd goal to give the Kings a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, Philly battled back and Connor Wilson scored his 14th, bringing the game to 4-2. Despite a 11-3 shot period for the Reapers, they weren't able to capitalize any more, and Mexico City won 4-2. Bastian Greiss' 23 saves were the difference in this one.

:mck:Mexico City Kings vs. Yukon Rush:yuk:

This game was between the favourited Mexico City Kings and the 14-30-4 Yukon Rush. In the 1st Period, Mexico City's Watson Stonebridge put them on the board on the PP, bringing the game to 1-0 in a 14-5 shot period. Both teams swapped some penalties but only the Kings were able to score. In the 2nd Period, Yukon's Johnny Appleweed got their first marker on the PP, bringing the game to 1-1. The Yukon Rush were having troubles staying out of the box, and so Mexico City then capitalized again on the PP later in the 2nd. Luke Pastrnak scored his 24th of the season at 13:15, then on another PP 2 minutes later, Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 25th goal, giving Mexico a 3-1 lead. Giving the Rush some hope, Johnny Appleweed scored his 2nd of the game late in the 2nd Period, bringing this one to 3-2. In the 3rd Period, Johnny Appleweed got his hat trick just 2:04 in, and tied the game 3-3. Mexico City kept fighting in this one with a 11-5 shot final period, and managed to score late with Dookie Headtop getting the 4-3 goal. Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen scored an empty netter, and this game ended 5-3 with a late scare for the Kings. Neither goaltender had a notable performance in this one, but Mexico City still escaped with a win despite outshooting their opponent 39-16.

Mexico City's last game was another win against the Philly Reapers, by a score of 5-4 in a shootout. I'm not going to summarize it though because I already have 500 words. Hehe.
