Junior Review
Sirdsvaldis Miglasķēms

Start of his career

Sirdsvaldis Miglasķēms is a 2.07m and 113kg bear of a player hailing from Selonia region of Latvia. Born in Nereta, Latvia, he was already an absolute beast in the local Nereta Junior Hockey Association  Tournament that featured 12 teams of players younger than 16. Sirdsvaldis was already picked out of a group because he was not only much, much taller and bigger than everybody, but he also was the older of the bunch as he somehow managed to fake his ID and apply to the tournament as 28 year old. In his first game with Neretas Jaguāri he faced against Cīruļu Cīruļi. He finished the game with 18 goals and 58 hits.

With the strong start in the Tournament some players and coaches from other teams filed a complaint about Sirdsvaldis age but it was ignored as someone had paid off all the organizers to make sure Sirdsvaldis is the best player.

His first professional team experience

His season before coming to VHLM led him to Latvian Hockey League where after a dominating performance in the Nereta tournament he joined Aizkraukle Pētersīļi team that had recently joined the Top tier league of Latvian hockey. As their only real player Miglasķēms was involved in ever goalscoring opportunity, every powerplay chance.

Sadly, his career was cut short as he made a dangerous hit to a 17 year old player from the Zemgale/LLU team that resulted in a 17 game suspension. The Aizkraukle team was not able to finish the season and was disbanded without their star player. In the 8 games Sirdsvaldis Miglasķēms played, he was able to score 15 goals, get 7 assists and a dominating 75 hits. His +/- rating however took a huge beating as he finished his season with -12 rating in 8 games.

After the disbanding of the Aizkraukle team, Sirdsvaldis was looking for another team to pick him up as a player but it was to no success. He spent his next months training at his private facility in Nereta, waiting for the start of the season with Houston Bulls in VHLM who had made a waiver offer to him.

Junior review assessment

Overall, even though Sirdsvaldis might look like a dominant player on the paper, there are lots of things that he still has to learn about the game, for example, his skating ability is not really equal to what we usually expect from a Centre forward. An extremely physical player with a great offensive sense that allows him to make high IQ passes to open players. His goal scoring ability, even though his previous season results might show you otherwise, is lacking and will not hold on any higher level of the competition.

Sirdsvaldis has played hockey only for the last 5 months when he joined Neretas Jaguāri team and Aizkraukles Pētersīļi team in the Latvian Hockey League.
