Game Recap

Game # 29 Philadelphia Reapers vs. Saskatoon Wild

Round two of the VHLM playoffs started off with a blowout.  Game 1 between the Reapers and the Wild was as exciting as could be for one team and a let down for the other.  Philadelphia jumped out to an early lead with a Jarno Lappi rebound off a missed shot by Eldon Escobar.  Sihanouk Yasilievich gave Philly a 2-0 lead a couple minutes later after Bob Chicoine’s shot was blocked by Kyou Fujibayashi and bounced right on the stick of Yasilievich.  Napoleon Dynamite was called for tripping, who allowed the Reapers to get the power play.

The second period was just as ugly for Saskatoon, as The Reapers scored 3 goals in the first 5 minutes of the period.  Alf Larsson got his 3rd goal of the playoffs, followed by Dylan Powers and Sebastien Dokis.  Brian Kowalski scored midway in the period off a shot by Jack Quill, making the game 5-1 going into the third.

Jeff Buffy scored on a power play to help make the game seem respectable for the Wild, but Eldon Escobar finished the scoring 8 minutes later to make the final outcome 6-2.  The Reapers had 34 shots in the game while the Wild shot 31 times.  Sivan Yasilievich earned the first star of the game with 1 goal and 2 assists.  Eldon Escobar had a goal and an assist to earn the second star, while Alf Larsson got the third star with a goal and an assist as well.

The Reapers come off a game 7 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, while the Wild topped the Miami Marauders in 6 games for the first round win.

Saskatoon is home again against the Reapers in game #31.

Game Recap:

Game 30: Mexico City Kings @ Houston Bulls

Both teams entered the second round taking care of business in the first. The Mexico City Kings swept the Ottawa Lynx and the Houston Bulls were able to hold off the Halifax 21st in five games. The Bulls had a dominate start to the game, generating 18 of the 23 shots of the period. As the period was ending, the Bulls struck first as Ivan Retoslav ripped the first goal of the series off a beautiful feed from Doug Matchet. It was Retosalv's 3rd goal of the post season. The Bulls continued to suffocate the Kings in their own zone as Hammar Voss blasted one off the crossbar and in 17 seconds later with 1:29 remaining in the first period to give Houston a 2-0 lead. Nine would net their 8th assist of the postseason on the Voss goal. The Kings settled down as the 2nd period began, and took advantage of some Houston miscues. Tomas Sogaard would cash in on the power play 5 minutes in off a little tic tac toe from Jason Argo and  Leandro Goncalves to cut the Bulls lead to 2-1. The momentum had clearly shifted from that point as the Kings would not let the Bulls to generate much offense the remainder of the period. With less than 30 seconds to go, Mexico City made Houston pay from a bad penalty as Matt Rooster tied the game 2-2 on the power play. Rooster danced in past Houston defenders and past Aves for his 3rd goal of the post season. Both teams looked exhausted as the 3rd, and OT periods drug on. Houston started to pour on the shots,  but Brandt Fuhr kept Mexico City in it. Halfway through OT2, Diabetic Cheese sent a breakout pass up the boards for Doug Matchett who had an odd man rush with Ivan Retoslav. Matchett got the puck over to Retoslav who lifted the puck right above Fuhr for the game winner! Retoslav sends Houston to a 1-0 series lead in a thriller. The Bulls will look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead while the Kings look to even it up.
