VICTORY CUP

In contrast to season 83, where the Moscow Menace won the Victory Cup in a tiebreaker, this season they ran away with it and would win the award by a margin on 13 points over the NA’s top team the D.C. Dragons. Allowing them to capture their 2nd consecutive Victory Cup! Congratulations Moscow!

Continental Cup

After a blistering start to the season, Warsaw did slow down towards the end and finished with 96 points and in 3rd position in the EU Conference. In the 1st round they would take on the Helsinki titans and boy would this series be something to watch as Helsinki would take the eventual champs to game 7 before Tavish Degroot @rory would score the series winning goal at  7:47 of the 3rd period on the powerplay. In the conference finals it was more of the same as they would take Moscow to game 7 overtime, where Zach Kisslinger II @Kisslinger would score the series winner and propel Warsaw to the finals. In the finals they would take on the defending champs in Seattle where Warsaw would win the cup in 6 games in a dominant 5-1 game #6 win to take the cup back to Warsaw! Congratulations to @dlamb and the season 84 Continental Cup Champion Warsaw Predators!

Each season the Alexander Beketov trophy is presented to the player who leads the league in assists, this award is commonly won by a defensemen and this season is no different with 3 of the top 5 players being defensemen; Tui Sova @v.2 , Hard Markinson @STZ, and Biggie Cheese @a_Ferk, and our two forwards in the top five were Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath , and Anze Miklavz @kelvi. In what was a 2 horse race up until the final couple of sims where Sova would stretch his lead to 4 assists over fellow S78 defensemen Hard Markinson who would finish the season with 73 assists. The Winner of the season 84 Alexander Beketov Trophy is Tui Sova with an impressive 77 assists!

The Kevin Brooks trophy is awarded to the player(s) who leads the league in scoring at the end of the regular season. Notably this season we saw 1 player in particular run away with this award late in the season establishing a 7 goal gap between them and 2nd place, and 13 goals between them and 5th. The top 5 goal scorers this season are; Nico Pearce @Spartan , Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath , Baby Bob @Baby Boomer, Alex Johnston @Alex, and Reylynn Reinhart @Ricer13. The previous two awards covered assists and goals, the Mike Szatkowski Trophy is awarded to the player who leads the league in points at the end of the regular season. Even though scoring is down compared to previous seasons we still had 6 players score over 100 points! The top 5 were Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath , Nico Pearce @Spartan , Hard Markinson @STZ, Tui Sova @v.2 , and Anze Miklavz @kelvi. This was a pretty close race compared to our other statistical awards as this one came down to our final sim of the season, following this Duncan Idaho would have a 2 point lead over Nico Pearce with 122 points compared to Peacre’s 120.

Now how about them goalies? The Greg Clegane Trophy is presented to the goalie with the lowest GAA over the course of the season. This season we saw one goalie take the lead in GAA early in the season and never let go of it with Papa Emeritus @Beketov having one of the best seasons by a goaltender in recent history. The next closest goaltender behind him was none other than Bubbles Utonium @fishy with a 2.09 GAA.

Congratulations to Papa Emeritus for winning the Greg Clegane Trophy with an astounding 1.97 GAA!

Possibly the most important award we will discuss this evening, the Fredrik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy is sometimes referred to as the ‘top member award’ as it is awarded to the member that goes above and beyond each season to make the league a better place for everyone involved. This season we had 4 nominees;

@Arce- Positive Presence in multiple communities + VHLM GM

@jacobcarson877 - VHLM GM, Junior Showcase Tournament, great focus on retention, and helping new members (on his team and otherwise)

@Ptyrell- Town of Pallet

@Shindigs - helpful to new members and passionate about the league

First off I would just like to thank all the nominees for all the work they put in this season and making the league a better place each and every day. Without further ado, the winner is…

Spoiler

The winner of this season’s Fredrik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy is… @jacobcarson877!

The Dustin Funk is awarded to that season's most improved player, this season we had a lot of players take a huge step forward. For this award each VHL GM can nominate 1 player from their own team, this ensures that no player is overlooked in any way. This can lead to a crowded field and with that it was narrowed down to four finalists, who stood out above the rest. These were:

S83: Papa Emeritus @Beketov (MOS) - 64GP, 47-14-3, 0.926SV%, 2.21GAA, 4SO, 1881SA

S84: Papa Emeritus (MOS) - 65GP, 48-11-5, 0.939SV%, 1.97GAA, 6SO, 2106SA

S83: Perry Laperriere @KaleebtheMighty (PRG) - 16G, 21A, 37P, 30, 65PIM, 169HIT, 14SB

S84: Perry Laperriere (PRG) - 34G, 49A, 83P, -26, 82PIM, 179HIT, 49SB

S83: Ronan Lavelle @Arce (DCD) - 13G, 27A, 40P, 6, 15PIM, 46HIT, 13SB

S84: Ronan Lavelle (DCD) - 38G, 60A, 98P, 41, 19PIM, 40HIT, 20SB

The Scott Boulet Trophy is awarded to the two-way forward in the VHL each season. Of late, Duncan Idaho has won the award 4 times, a feat that has only been done once before by Scott Boulet. This raises the question of “will we see this again” as Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath has won the last trophy for the last four seasons and had another good season this time around with 122 points, 368 hits, and 29 shots blocked. Other players who had incredible two-way seasons are Druss Deathwalker @animal74 with 85 points, 404 hits (now has the VHL record for most hits), and 59 shots blocked, and Nico Pearce @Spartan who had 120 points, 284 hits, and 32 shots blocked. Will Idaho continue the trend and capture their 5th straight, or will a new player break the current trend? Let’s find out, the winner of the Scott Boulet Trophy is…

Duncan Idaho is now the only player to win the Boulet 5 times (previously tied with Boulet at 4 wins a piece)! Raising the question if it is time to rename the award?

The Alexander Valiq Trophy is awarded to the VHL’s top offensive defenseman, this season we had a race that was closer than in recent history as Hard Markinson @STZ and Tui Sova @v.2 both finished with 106 points, with Markinson having the edge in goals scored!  Our 3rd nominee for the award, Hulk Hogan 2 @Hogan finished 37 points behind them with 71, although they did score 24 goals. Each of these players had a spectacular offensive season, but the Valiq Trophy can only go to one of them. The winner of the season 84 Alexander Valiq Trophy is…

The Jake Wylde Trophy, on the other hand, is an award recognizing the best defensive defenseman in the league, a role that is often overlooked and thankless. However we do have 3 finalists, first up we have Sven Eightnine @BarzalGoat who was a -53, had 299 hits, and 208 shots blocked. Hard Markinson @STZ also had a remarkable defensive season as they were a +41, had 253 hits and 116 shots blocked. Additionally Brian Payne @Scurvy carried the brunt of the defensive load for Warsaw last season and did a great job at that finishing the season with a +14, 261 hits, and 190 shots blocked. Without further ado, our top defensive defensemen of season 84 is…

One of the most prestigious awards in the VHL, the Sterling Labatte Trophy is awarded to each season's top defensemen. It can be very difficult to narrow down the nominees for this award and with that we have 4 nominees, they are; Biggie Cheese @a_Ferk who was a standout defensemen for Riga this past season with 81 points, 164 hits, 138 shots blocked and was a +42. Hard Markinson @STZ who continues to be one of the top defensemen in the league season and won this very award in season 81 and 82 was solid again in this one with 106 points, 253 hits, 116 shots blocked, and was a +41. Tui Sova @v.2 , helped D.C. to the top of the NA with their stellar play on both sides of the puck and finished the season with 106 points, 129 hits, 132 shots blocked, and was a +40. Lastly, Alessandro Nano @leafsman had a breakout season for Helsinki which saw them put up 79 points, 182 hits, 133 shots blocked, and a solid +14. The Aiden Shaw Trophy is presented to the VHLs top goaltender each season. This past season goalies stole the show. Among goalies 4 stood out above the rest this past season, they are; Augustus Kennedy @InstantRockstar, who came in and robbed everyone as a rookie goaltender, finishing the season with a 0.931 SV% and a 2.8 GAA. Papa Emeritus @Beketov finally had the standout season we have been waiting for and finished with a 48-11-5 record, 0.939 SV%, and a 1.97 GAA. Bubbles Utonium @fishy took the Dragons to the top of the NA with a 0.928 SV%, and a 2.09 GAA. Now that we have most of the player awards done it is time to honour the people who make it all happen with the David Knight Trophy which will be awarded to the leagues top general manager. Let’s meet the finalists:

Blake Campbell @Banackock - Made the necessary trades to keep Seattle a cup favourite.

Eno Rama @Enorama - Over time created a contender in DC that the rest of the league dreaded playing against.

Alex Johnston @Alex - Took a reformed Davos team to their first playoff series win in some time and made way too many trades along the way.

Jeff Downey @JeffD - Built a contender in Chicago and fostered an engaging environment around the team.

Kris Rice @Ricer13 - Turned Calgary into a contender after what could be the shortest rebuild ever.

Euron Leonidas @Spartan - Has made Moscow possibly one of the greatest teams of all time over the course of the past few seasons!
