TIM RIGGINS

LW | 6'6'' | 220 lbs

The relatively unknown Tim Riggins was born in Montreal Quebec, Canada. He showed passion for the game of hockey at a young age. At 4 years old he was skating with a custom size stick ( his father cut the shaft of the stick for his size ) on city rinks. As he began his hockey career in the Tim Hortons Timbits hockey program and was quickly noticed as having a natural gift for the game. At age 8 his family moved just north of Montreal to a city named Laval. There he began playing to the local triple A team, the Laval Titan. By age 10 he was an impact player for the Titan and but age 13 he was named an alternate team captain. By age 15 he had grown to 6 foot 6, 220 pounds and developed his game to be a power forward. Not afraid to go into the corners and hit, shove and check, he also developed a nose for the net in the dirty areas of the ice. Riggins began to go to the blue paint and score off of rebounds, deflections and lose pucks around the net. It became the very thing he was known for. His final 2 seasons with his hometown triple A team he had 193 goals and 230 assists. He set a hits record with 294 hits in his final season. Tim Riggins biggest career moment to tat point was scoring the winning goal in game 5 of the Championship final. His double overtime winning goal was one the teams greatest moments as they clinched their 10th championship in 14 seasons.

He had become a force in the league and slowly caught the attention of a few VHLM gms. Most were unsure that his game would translate well for their team. Coming into the draft, there was talk that he would maybe go in the fifth round at best. To the surprise of almost everyone, he went 28th Overall ( 3rd round ). One analyst said Riggins was “ a big bodied forward who could hit, but unsure how his scoring game would translate to the VHLM “. However, the Mexico City Kings obviously saw something most other Gms didn’t see and called his name 28th overall in the entry draft. Obviously there will be a learning curve, but MExico city hope he can find his footing quickly and become the type of player he was back with the Laval Titan.  IF he can find his footing in the VHLm quickly, and bring a solid defensive game, He may just surprise in the VHL draft. Until then, Mexico City can benefit from Riggins, if he can adapt quickly.
