Daryl Dixon Biography

       In an alternate reality, Daryl Dixon was just a regular trailer trash kid from Northern Georgia. He was delivered on the floor of his luxurious double wide trailer by his own parents. He was welcomed into the world with an alcoholic father, self centered mother and a brother who took out all of his frustration on Daryl. A home of abuse with no where to turn too. Even school was a place where Daryl couldn't stand to be. Constantly bullied because of where he lived and who his family was. This led young Daryl into some pretty dark places as a child, that is until he met Rick. 

 

     The two met in elementary school when they were only 8 years old. Rick came from a police family and never really went through what Daryl had as a child. These two became friends because of their differences and learned to help each other through the tough times. Daryl was a very introverted kid who didn't want to get involved in any sort of activities. Rick was always trying to pull Daryl out of his shell and get him involved in different things but this wasn't very easy. One day at home Daryl was flipping through the channels on his TV when he came across a VHL game between the Calgary Wranglers and the Chicago Phoenix. He was amazed by what he was witnessing. The speed, the physicality and true team work really drew Daryl in to liking hockey. He liked it so much so that he told his buddy Rick and they both started looking into whether or not they could play hockey in Northern Georgia. 

 

     Daryl started playing hockey at the age of 9 with a minor league team in the town next to his. He had a ton of support from his teachers who helped link him up with a program that supplied new gear and looked after financial costs for kids in poor communities. His first season in minor hockey was a rough one. He could hardly move on skates and when he did he would end up on his ass. The one thing he had going for him was his grit and determination. After a full season of development under his belt he could finally move around the ice fairly well. He spent all of his first offseason training on his own. He found a pair of rollerblades at a local garage sale and spent all summer playing shinny with his buddy Rick. Coming into his second season Daryl tried out for the "elite" team. He knew there was no chance he would make that team but wanted to see where he stacked up against the rest of the competition. Little did he know all that training had paid off. He had a great tryout and made the elite team in only his second season as a player. The coaches couldn't believe the progress Daryl had made in such a short period of time and knew there was something special about this kid. He started on the 4th line with the elite team as he adjusted to the pace of the play. Within a few short weeks he had moved himself further up the line up and eventually was getting the most ice time of any forward. He learned systems, powerplay and the penalty so quickly that he was being used in all situations. His team would end up losing in the championship finals that season but that did not deter him from wanting to continue to work hard and become a better hockey player.

 

     Daryl Dixon had an amazing support system throughout his early hockey career. He had coaches, teachers, teammates parents and so on helping Daryl every step of the way. Providing him with the resources to be able to learn and play to his fullest potential. It wasn't long before he was moving on from the local elite team and playing for the state elite team. Not long after that he had college teams knocking on his door trying to recruit him into their systems. What Daryl will always remember is that day he was flipping through his TV and seeing his first VHL game. He knew the path he wanted to take as soon as he realized he had the potential. College was not an option for him, he wanted to take the path that would get him into the VHL. Once eligible he declared immediately for the VHL Minor League and now his dream is even closer than ever. He went from a broken home to becoming one of the next bright starts of the Victory Hockey League. No matter the situation you're in, never give up. Have people in your life that never give up on you like Rick not giving up on Daryl.
