The Stinkiest VHLM Mock Draft of All Time - Round 1

In many sim leagues I have been, I found as a new user mock drafts is the best way to learn about the league but also to have fun. So in the spirit of being in the VHLM draft for the first time, I wanted to create the stinkiest VHLM mock draft of all time. I wanted to start off the draft with some logical choices based on position need and prior draft tendencies and then in the later rounds find ways to link in prospects to teams even though it may be far stretched. So as I make a fool out of myself and most likely get 99% of the picks wrong, I present to you all the stinkiest VHLM mock draft of all time series. This will be part one aka Round 1 as I look to mock players to teams and picks so we cover the whole 55 person draft.

And away we go!

San Diego (1 OA): Konstyantyn Shevchenko, RW (der meister)
The last time San Diego had two draft picks were in the S89 and S90 drafts. In both cases they drafted two different positions rather than stacking up a position. Who did they go with then? In S89 they went with two 1st gen players at D and RW. In S90 they went with a 1st gen player in LW and a recreate in D. So it would be a smart guess to mock them with a W and D player for their two picks and one being a 1st gen user. They have also made recreate users and W their top pick  the last two drafts they had a 1st rounder so I mock them the top recreate at W who would be der meister's player, Konstyantyn Shevchenko. They were debating going for the highest 1st gen player Matteo Stefano but loved the reliability and veteran leadership of recreates that they go back to their well of top wings.

Miami (2 OA): Roger Eagles, G (Greg_Di)
This pick would have been easy on paper. They would have gone with the top TPE player and well known user who not only is the most popular but has a perfect Miami user name in Vice! He was a standout in the VHLM last season and again in the Junior Showcase Tourney. However, he has over earned and will need to go to the VHLE directly, so Miami is left scratching their heads. However Miami is stacked with draft picks this season so they are able to go with best player available strategy. However, they are worried with so few top Gs they may end up on the short stick so they go with the top G in the draft in Roger Eagles, user Greg_Di. They debated going with the top W in Stefano but was worried they may try to go to the E so passed on them. User Greg_Di retired their prior player as a champ and Miami is banking on Roger Eagles to be the missing piece in getting them back to glory!

Mexico City (3 OA): Ahsoka Tano, D (aimkin)
Mexico City like Miami has a treasure chest full of draft picks so they can really stack up on players this draft. Mexico City is an interesting team as they have not been afraid of picking any position in the 1st round from D, W, C and G. They do have a common theme and it is they love recreates. So I'll mock them the top recreate available Ahsoka Tano, D, user aimkin. He is a well known and respected AGM and would make it a home run choice for Mexico. Mexico had originally wanted to get Vice if he was eligible to stay in the VLHM or Der Meister or Greg_Di's players but all were unfortunately drafted right before them. However, Tano is not just a consolation prize but a sure fire captain that would lead any team's defense.

Mississauga (4 OA): Nicholas Sunderbruch Jr., C (NickSunderbruch)
Mississauga needs anyone but Ws as they already have two. So they are focused on going after a non-W player with their early pick. They have 1 D and no G in their roster and with only limited early picks, they go the safe route and address a position of need. However they are torn between two players - do they go with the red hot rookie in G THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD, go with the proven veteran user in C Nicholas Sunderbruch Jr, or bring back their player RW Matteo Stefano. Going down the list, there is a big drop off between Sunderbruch and the next highest C so they go with the smart route and select C Nicholas Sunderbruch Jr.

Philadelphia (5 OA): Tim Robinson, LW, (Tim Robinson)
Philly is pretty barren on their roster. They love drafting Cs in the 1st round but unfortunately with Sunderbruch Jr being drafted right in front of them they go searching for a great recreate at any position. They debate between the two top wings in a young 17 year old Phil Sakic and the aging wonder in 42 year old Tim Robinson. They go with a known product and bring back their LW in Tim Robinson. His 12 points in 15 games during the regular season and 3 points in 5 playoff games sold the Reapers in bringing back one of their own.

San Diego (6 OA): Alphonse Desjardins, D (Anthique)
San Diego can now bring in a D for their pick. However with Tano being already picked they kick themselves and now have to decide if they go with a top W in Matteo Stefano, G THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD or D Alphonse Desjardins. This is a tough choice for the Marlins as the smart choice says go with W Stefano but they like to diversify positions. San Diego loves bringing in one new user and don't draft Gs but rather a D to complement a W in the draft so this is a tough choice for the GM. With much sleepless nights, the Marlins decide to go with D Alphonse Desjardins.

Miami (7 OA): Matteo Stefano, RW (mmrs617)
The draft has proceeded as a nice surprise for Miami as they are able to take one of the two players that dropped in the draft in W Stefano or G THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD. Since Miami already drafted a G prior at 2 OA, they go with W Stefano finally taking them before they fall any further in the draft. Miami isn't worried about rumors they may go to the E and feel good about their chances in persuading them to play out the year so they can go break many minor league records in the M.

Mexico City (8 OA): THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD, G (Royski)
Mexico City is looking good too as they get the final steal of the draft in G THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD. Mexico lucks in to not only the top D but also who they had as the top G in the draft. The fans in Mexico City are all high-fiving each other as these two picks mark the start of the Kings being back and they believe the two will anchor their defense this coming season.

Saskatoon (9 OA): Jerry Box, RW (barryst)
The Wild aka Champs are happy they not only won the title but also have not the 10th but 9th pick in this draft. The top options on the board for the Wild are LW Phil Sakic, LW Gabriel Finley, RW Captain Nugget Jr, RW Jerry Box and D Boris Bone-Breaker. And who do they go with you ask? Well it was easy. They decide to bring back RW Jerry Box of their championship team and hope he brings the same level of energy to repeat this season.

Las Vegas (10 OA): Boris Bone-Breaker, D (RileyL)
Las Vegas has already 4 wings on their roster so they will look to address the other positions this draft. They missed out on their top targets in The MIGHTY ICE WIZARD, Desjardins and Nicholas Sunderbruch Jr. as they had hoped one of them would fall to them at 10 OA. So their choice is easy - get a non-W and that would be D Boris Bone-Breaker.

For those who have read this mock draft, share with me on the reply of which picks seem like steals and which are reaches by the teams if it played out this way. Let's hear from the mob!
