ScottyP 189
Vancouver Wolves Recap: A Bite Out of the Big Apple and Howling for More: Season 94 Review The Vancouver Wolves finished the 94th version of the Victory Hockey Leagues regular season with, clawing their way to a 40-24-8 record. Good enough for a wild card playoff spot in the VHL’s North American Conference. This hungry pack, under the leadership of a battle-tested management group, proved they have the teeth to contend for the VHL championship. Leading the offensive charge was the red-hot duo of Rip Wheeler and Owen Lazaro. Wheeler, a walking quote machine (“Fucking-A right baud!”), and fan favorite on the right wing, notched a career high 31 goals and a 46 assists for 77 points. Lazaro was an absolute stud on left wing, lighting the lamp 39 times and chipping in 56 helpers for a cool 95 points (no big deal)….These two were a nightmare for opposing defenses, a constant blur of motion and pinpoint passing that had fans on the edge of their seats. Lurking just behind the Wheeler-Lazaro show was the ever-dangerous Martin Kemp. Kemp managed to put up 27 goals and rack up 38 assists in just 59 games for Vancouver. Since he came over from Riga; Kemp has been force on the left wing, using his size and strength to protect the puck and find open teammates. The rest of the forward group provided valuable secondary scoring. Right wingers Riley Martin (24 goals, 32 assists) and Logan Ninefingers (32 goals, 44 assists) were offensive threats every time they stepped on the ice. Ninefingers, a skilled sophomore with a nose for the net, has emerged as a future star and cornerstone of this Wolves franchise for years to come. The Vancouver defense was a formidable unit, anchored by the steady presence of veterans, Captain Mark Calaway and Liv Slater. Calaway, a mountain of a man, logged heavy minutes and used his booming slap shot to keep opposing forwards honest. Notching 19 goals and 57 assists for a total of 76 points overall. Slater, a puck-moving defenseman with a knack for finding teammates in scoring positions, chipped in with a solid 69 points (23 goals, 46 assists). Also on the blue line, the unheralded Guntis Gavilrovs emerged as a key contributor…just a gamer in every sense of the word, chipping in 10 goals and a surprising 39 assists. With 248 hits and 249 penalty minutes, he was a physical presence on the blue line this season. His ability to set the tone physically was a difference make and made him a celebrity out on the town with fans and in the room with the boys. Left Alone solidified the defensive side of things putting up 61 points (15 goals, 46 assists) while providing a steady presence on the penalty kill. Anchoring the Vancouver net was the steady Dalkr Vidarsson. The Icelandic netminder started 64 games, posting a very respectable .919 save percentage. Vidarsson's ability to steal games single-handedly was a major factor in the Wolves' success. There were nights when he seemed to stand on his head, frustrating opposing scorers with skills on the net….. Smarch 3,117
Review: Good overview of the Wolves season. I enjoyed how you broke It down between offense, defense and goaltending. Lots of good information including stats. Maybe the only thing missing to draw the readers attention was some color or bolded words and maybe a picture or two. Other than that good read!
