Robin Gow Goes to Riga

For much of S35, many draft pundits labeled the S36 VHL Entry Draft as a two player sweepstakes between winger XXX and defenseman Godavari Yumalatopinto, with some publications calling these two players the consensus top two picks. However, the S36 VHL Entry Draft saw the Riga Reign select center Robin Gow with the second overall pick. Although Gow was slightly behind XXX and G.Y. in TPE, Riga Reign general manager Mike Szatkowski saw something special in the young forward. “Anytime you see a player dominate the VHLM like Robin did last season in Ottawa in his draft eligible year, you know he’s going to be a special player. We believe Robin has an extremely high ceiling and that he has the potential to be one of the best centers in the VHL during his playing career. Not only is Gow a good player, but he provides solid leadership both on and off the ice, as displayed during his run with Ottawa to the S35 Founder’s Cup.”

While Riga should improve from their dreadful S35 campaign, not much should be expected from the Reign this upcoming season. However, Robin and the rest of Riga’s S36 draft class should help improve Riga’s core for the future.
