Tagger 2,722
Will Threencarnacion be a first round pick despite his intentions to be a backup goalie for life? The things that we'd need to assess here would be: - Are there any teams with a first rounder that could possibly benefit from picking a backup goalie ahead of a standard player? - How many players are there who have the potential to be solid contributors for a team? - Will any teams foolishly attempt to convince me to (or not paying enough attention to know I won't) play as starting goalie? Are there any teams with a first rounder that could possibly benefit from picking a backup goalie ahead of a standard player? The five teams currently in possession of a S52 first are: New York Quebec Seattle Helsinki Stockholm You would have to say that for any team that doesn't have immediate title aspirations that there are very little benefits to acquiring the services of a backup goalie. That would imply that both Helsinki and Stockholm will look elsewhere. Quebec could potentially enter Championship talks with a good Free Agency, but their first is looking likely to be lottery, which is obviously way too high for a backup goalie. Seattle and New York are the two teams that could compete with a good Free Agency and have later firsts, I think if any team were to consider taking Threencarnacion, it would be New York, as Seattle are dealing with larger contracts than New York while New York could perhaps use a safety blanket at goalie with no guaranteed starting goalie and M.T Power currently under 100 TPE. How many players are there who have the potential to be solid contributors for a team? There's perhaps not as many great prospects as we had hyped at the S50 Trade Deadline, but there are still quite a few players that can contribute to a team. Looking at the TPE counts and looking at some players activity who haven't currently updated their players, I think there are roughly 15 players who I believe will make the VHL by their second season, and I think that's a large enough total that, unless someone REALLY wants a backup goalie, that Threencarnacion won't be a first rounder. Will any teams foolishly attempt to convince me to (or not paying enough attention to know I won't) play as starting goalie? It's something that I'm expecting, but rest assured, it will not be happening. Some people with long memories may doubt that statement considering I made a similar bold statement with Reencarnacion and didn't follow through. Essentially, I made a media spot saying that I would only play for the team that drafted me until the end of my rookie contract, before moving to a team I'd never played for before. As evidenced by my six and a half season stint with the Americans, that didn't happen, but I only did that because I posted that article after the lottery (which wasn't really fair on Chris) and I'd been told that I could eventually be given the GM role at New York (My main reason for wanting to move around was more out of frustration that my high draft stock affected my shot at the Seattle GM spot that I had previously been offered). This time, I've given plenty of notice that I intend to be a backup (it was pretty much the first thing I confirmed after I stepped down as GM), so there's no excuses for GM's not knowing my intent and there's no reason for me to alter my intentions. eaglesfan036 4,604
I don't think it makes any sense for a contending team to have a backup goalie as it takes up cap space and won't be played in the playoffs. If Kesler was still GM he would probably be all for you because he thinks regular season stats are the most important thing. I'm not saying this because I dislike the idea as I do think it's cool that you are going to only be a backup, but you likely will only play for rebuilding to average kinds of teams. Hope you have fun with it though, you always like the quirky things and I look forward to goalie sacking you! Molholt 2,185
I tried to acquire a backup this season, so I could be convinced but I don't have a pick.
