TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Here are are back at it again with the Season 1 draft. We draw near the end of this historic draft that paved the way for future VHL draftees. This week we talk about the Stockholm Thunder. 1st Round, 4th Overall: Center Alex Gegeny Career Regular Season Stats: 222 GP | 149 G | 181 A | 330 P Career Playoff Stats: 9 GP | 4 G | 8 A | 12 P Alex Gegeny was drafted just outside the top 3 at 4th overall. For the short time he was with Stockholm and in the VHL for that matter he was good. He played in only 222 games scoring 149 goals and assisting on 181 goals for 330 points. He unfortunately was on some bad teams though only playing 9 playoff games in his career. In those 9 games though, Gegs scored 4 goals and assisted on 8 goals for 12 points. He is a boarder line hit for me right now. He was a 1st line center and he produced like one albeit for a short amount of time. I will get back to it at the end of the article. 2nd Round, 13th Overall: Left Wing Chris Julien Career Regular Season Stats: 576 GP | 341 G | 370 A | 711 P Career Playoff Stats: 32 GP | 14 G | 15 A | 29 P Now there is no question here that Chris Julien is one of the better players of his generation. He is serverly underrated and I think deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He played in 576 games, scored 341 goals and assisted on 370 goals for 711 points. He also played 32 games in the playoffs scoring 14 goals and assisting on 15 goals for 29 points. He was the face the Stockholm franchise throughout his whole 8 season career and pretty much the first decade. Just a shame he was not well liked. 3rd Round, 20th Overall: Goaltender Ookie Mexico Career Regular Season Stats: 29 GP | 10 W | 12 L | 2 OTL | 0.882 SV% | 3.85 G.A.A | 0 SO | 0 A Career Playoff Stats: N/A Now we see why the beginning was such a high scoring era. Just take a look at how bad the goalies are. Ookie Mexico was supposed to be a starting goalie for the Thunder but he didn't pan out. He finished with a career record of 10-12-2 with a 0.882 save percentage and a 3.85 G.A.A. He had no shutouts or assists. Overall, not very good for a player selected in the 3rd round and expected to be a number one goalie. 4th Round, 29th Overall: Defenseman Petter Vishofski Career Regular Season Stats: 505 GP | 61 G | 206 A | 267 P Career Playoff Stats: 35 GP | 4 G | 9 A | 13 P You can make a good argument that Vishnofski was not a very bad defender at all. He was a solid depth player for 505 games. He scored 61 goals and assisted on 206 goals for 267 points. Very good 3/4 numbers in my opinion. He also played in 35 playoff games, scoring 4 goals and assisting on 9 goals for 13 points. You can't even make the argument that he played on bad teams only that's why he has so much points and games played, he played in 35 playoff games too! Couldn't have been that bad of a player if he played in that much playoff games. 5th Round, 36th Overall: Defenseman Steve Kent Career Regular Season Stats: 505 GP | 75 G | 291 A | 366 P Career Playoff Stats: 39 GP | 1 G | 18 A | 19 P Steve Kent was another great depth defenseman, all though he was more of a 2nd defenseman on a bad team and a very strong 3rd defenseman on a good team kind of player. He played in 505 games, scoring 75 goals and assisting on 291 goals for 366 points in his career. He added 1 goal and 18 assists for 19 points in 39 playoff games as well. Overall he had a very solid career in my opinion and he is one of the underrated defenseman of the VHL's first era. 6th Round, 45th Overall: Center Jon Arsenault Career Regular Season Stats: 358 GP | 55 G | 95 A | 150 P Career Playoff Stats: 14 GP | 1 G | 3 A | 4 P Jon Arsenault was a 6th round draft pick who turned out to be a solid 3rd line center. He would move up to the 2nd line if he played on a bad team. He played in 358 games, scoring 55 goals and assisting on 95 points for 150 points in his career. He played in 14 more games in the playoffs adding 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points. Decent player but not good enough to make a big difference. 7th Round, 52nd Overall: Left Wing Marian Oshie Career Regular Season Stats: 72 GP | 12 G | 24 A | 36 P Career Playoff Stats: N/A Last and least is Marian Oshie. He was the last pick of the Thunder in Season 1. He had a fairly decent year scoring 12 goals and assisting on 24 goals for 36 points in 72 games. That is all his VHL career had in store for him though. Overall: I want to give Gegeny the hit rather than a miss but he may have shone bright in his short career but he didn't shine bright for long enough in my opinion for a 4th overall pick. Chris Julien and Steven Kent are the only hits for the Thunder. 1. Calgary Wranglers - 5/8 = 62.5% 2. Hamilton Canucks - 3/7 = 42.9% 3. Amstel Tigers - 3/8 = 37.5% 4. Helsinki Titans - 2/7 = 28.5% 5. Seattle Everblades - 2/7 = 28.5% 6. Stockholm Thunder - 2/7 = 28.5% Edited November 4, 2016 by TheLastOlympian07 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/35074-claimed6-points-pls-part-6/ Share on other sites
