Speculating the Lotto Picks

200.gif#24

It's that time of year again in the VHL and no, I'm not talking about Christmas because I haven't decided yet what kind of awesome Christmas themed shit I want to add to the forum for the season! I'm talking about draft season and tonight we have a big one with the first pack of 2nd players making it one of the best drafts we've seen in awhile. The draft order was published officially this morning so what better time than a few hours before the draft to make a few wild predictions about the first few selections.

The New York Americans won the draft lottery a few weeks back and therefore secured the 1st overall selection. The undisputed favorite for this pick has to be Phil Shankly and I just can't think of a scenario where New York would pass on him. The Phil Knight agency proved with Phil Hamilton the kind of talent they can cultivate and Shankly thus far hasn't shown any signs of deviating from the course we've come to expect from Phil. I predict 1st overall will be Phil Shankly.

Stockholm received 2nd overall in the lottery and there's a couple of different ways this could go. Stockholm needs a goalie and it just so happens this draft has two great ones - the wrench in the mix is that one of them is a self-proclaimed greatest backup goalie in the world. Advantage and YEAH have some history together so I wouldn't be too surprised to see Threencarnacion go to Stockholm and become the starting goaltender, but I'm going to assume YEAH will follow through and predict that 2nd overall will be goaltender Rhett DeGrath.

Quebec is at 3rd overall and, again, the Threencarnacion wildcard is really messing up my predictions. I have no idea what will happen or how far he will fall as a result of his pledge to only play 8 games per season. Fabio Jokinen would be an extremely solid pickup for Quebec at this pick, with jRuutu just finishing and impressive career with his first generation player. I predict Fabio Jokinen will be selected at 3rd overall.

At 4th overall we have Helsinki and given Higgins' recent switch to goalie, it's safe to assume he won't be risking Threencarnacion. Daryl Dortch, Sami Zayn, and Grigory Kopralkov would all be great candidates for this pick. Based on the history between the Titans franchise, Higgins as GM, and the Tylar player agency - I suspect Sami Zayn will be selected at 4th overall by Helsinki.

The most interested thing to watch tonight will be what happens with Threencarnacion. I would guess he will still be a 1st round selection for sure, but it's hard to say when he will go and even harder to imagine what kind of career he has ahead of him if he sticks to his word and remains a backup goaltender. It's likely that he would do a lot of bouncing around between lesser teams as competing teams will be hesitant to accept his cap hit for 8 games per season.

What game is the Blue Team playing? Perhaps it wasn't Draper that was Higgins multi but Frank instead. :P
