Da Trifecta 1,896
Injuries and Fighting The Victory Hockey League or VHL for short has been going on for a healthy 51 seasons already. During that span many people have seen things happen that have blown their minds and many things that have been planned. From things like the very first back to back champions, to the best save percentage to the three peat. Some records have stood over the course of twenty plus seasons and some records haven't gotten the chance to even be tested. I want to talk about some of the things that could bring in more interest to not only players but the general managers. Those things are fighting and injuries. Two things the league doesn't have implemented but really should. Now we have heard the argument for both I am quite certain in the 51 seasons the VHL has been around. Let's get into why I believe they should be added into the league and what kind of impact they could have. First off fighting. We had Molholt once make a player that was all for the fighting and was looking forward to it. The sad thing is no one else ever added into fighting and it made for his build to be pointless. With the fighting being turned up just a little bit, it would allow for more fights to happen and we could see more bruisers around the league. I mean we could even have fighting specialists on teams who would be the one to initiate fights and it could impact the game. Whether someone starts the fight or decides to get into it, it could allow for players to be sent to the box. That could allow one team to have a more favorable powerplay and it could help a team get a much needed win. It could also allow an underdog to come out on top because they may have used a player to take out the other teams best player. This would cause some people to get upset but it could be something that people could actually enjoy. It would also coincide with the injury part of this. By adding injuries it would allow for GM's to have to plan accordingly when a player is out. The injury could be turned on to a three or five game max thing. This would make depth players get the chance to have some more play time. Now that we have the two player thing going on, this could be something more interesting. Some players may be solid depth players who could be starters but signed onto a team to be stacked and never get their chance to shine. Some people would prefer to get a cup over being a top player on the team. This would allow them to live in the glory of being a starter for a brief amount of games while still being the depth player they want to be. Some of the fights could also result in injuries which would be completely awesome. It would give more people content to write about or even podcast about. Granted this is still a simulation league first, but lets throw in some realistic feels to it. Personally I think this would give all those people out there aka the TPE whores something else to spend their TPE into so they just don't keep banking and banking. There is also one more thing I wanted to address. Make the penalty shot attribute matter. I mean I know it is there and not many people update into it, but it should matter. All these extra statistics could be something fun for the league. We have had records stand like the best save percentage or the most points or assists or goals scored by a rookie and so on and so forth. Why not allow for people who haven't been here since day 1 to get the chance to be able to cement their names in the history book. This would also be something for those TPE whores out there to have to add into as well. I mean it could be something that most people would enjoy and it could be fun. Some people may not like these ideas of be impartial to changes but this could be something that could help the VHL in my opinion. Would definitely make the league more interesting for sure and allow players and GM's to have to strategize things more and have to do their homework. I know these things may have been talked about in the BoG, but let's get some input from the other members not in there. Let's actually see if people would be willing to give this a chance. I mean no one would have ever thought the two player idea would be a good idea, but here we are. I mean would the two player thing have been thought of a decade ago? Some things are meant to happen for a reason and I believe this is one of those things that could be a real game changer. Some GM's may not like it but think about it this way, if you are a good GM this could show your true colors. Let's see if you are actually that good of a GM that you could handle injuries and manage your team to deal with those. It's time to nut up or shut up. Let's see who will be a part of the elite in terms of being a GM and who will fall flat on their faces. JardyB10 4,865
I probably will play around with the Fighting sliders now that I'm actually going to have a fighter in the league. Injuries I've brought up, but it was aggressively shut down. I would also be curious as to what the rest of the league thinks of it, but I'm assuming it will be more or less the same. I'm fairly sure the Penalty Shot attribute was introduced with V2, and therefore there's simply no way to make it matter unless we switch the engine to V2. Which is not particularly feasible. Good Media Spot though, and I would like to see what other people think of at least injuries! Toast 887
I like your way of thinking, but injuries simply don't work in a league of the VHL's scale. If we had replacements for injuries, sure, let's go nuts... but there are no replacements. If a player is out for a few games, general managers will be forced to either: A) Double shift another player or B) Let a CPU player take the spot. Sure, you could argue that there is a pool of 100-250TPE players who can easily fill holes with the injuries happening, but this just causes headaches for the GMs and the simmer, who will have to keep moving players around during the season. I like the idea, but it boils down to rosters being too small to handle these issues. Fighting though... let's crank that up. Let's see some fists flying! Banackock 8,044
No injuries. Our rosters already have limited amounts of players on them. No point losing more just to cause bigger roster holes. But see this allows for GM's to have to manage their cap accordingly and such. This will make sure that GM's can show they know what they are doing and can handle the pressure of an injury. I mean like I said 3-5 game max. Sometimes it could make or break a team but a great GM can manage to handle it and get past it. I think it would be interesting because then some players who are second liners could show off their value and such. Why not show you can be a REAL GM and handle this problem if it occurred? Are you afraid? I dislike managing the amount of players we're able to already. 1.5 set of D pairings and potentially 2 full lines barely. Can't imagine what it would be like with injuries. Not a real GM with injuries on. Just more of a challenge because your roster could be stacked (example CGY), but let's say by shit luck they have Kopenen and Kohler injured in the finals and they lose.. or regular season.. that's bull shit and wouldn't reflect Eagles at all. Like I said, are you just that afraid? If you dislike managing the amount of players why the hell did you sign up to be a GM then? Sure, there are players who are significantly weaker in attributes, but most teams seem to employ the mixing-the-lines strategy, with players of all talents working all areas of the game. Keep in mind there is the third and fourth line which is essentially used to shuffle the first two lines a bit? Rules would have to be re-worked since inactive signings have the 24hr wait. Then you have to assume GMs can log on every 12 hours essentially to make sure everything is going okay. I, for example, can check the results every day. Some days though, I wouldn't have the time to scramble through free agency or make a deal to respond to these injuries. What happens then? Are my lines autoed? I don't think that's fair for someone who was simply too busy for the day with work or family commitments. See the thing with the logging on to check things, why not have the GM assign an assistant GM and then inform the commies and such in the VHL LR that way they could handle things if need be. I get that not everyone can get on that often but I am certain that things won't be that out of control that it would make say like a team like last years Reign or Wranglers go from 1 to 3 seed that quickly. Constant injuries could do that but I don't mean for the injuries to be turned up so they happen frequently. Just for them to happen every so often would be kinda cool. Like "last season we had x-player out for 2 games and y-player for 1 game." Not something like "we had x-player out 3 times for 2-3 games at a time and y-player out twice with 3 days at a time." Guest
Approved! I know the SHL treats Fighting and injuries as a joke, with only the Enforcer build there and injuries off. I wish we could find a way to make things seasmless and see a be-a-pro league actually do it instead of wimping out and saying, "Nah."
