  Pros

  Scoring

Sergei Kovalev’s strongest asset is by far his ability to put the puck in the net. It does not matter what situation he is put into on the ice. You will always find him open for the one-timer, going in on breakaways or even just blasting it from the point. It has been said that a lot of players around the VHLM are already talking about his shot and how scary it truly is.

      Skating

They say once Kovalev gets going he is as fast as a bullet. Trainers insisted that he trained skating repetitively from a young age because you make it big you always had to be ahead of the play and that is just what Sergei does. Rumor has it he is not a fun person to cover on the ice because it is hard to keep up to him.

       Puck Handling

The final pro we will mention today is Sergei’s ability to handle the puck. It is hard for opposing players to strip the puck from Kovalev because he is so smooth moving around with it. Almost like a figure skating, except less girly of course. This benefits Sergei for moving around and getting open to help his goal scoring, but it is also a huge factor on his assist game. He is able to dance around with the puck until teammates become open for a clear shot on net.

Cons

 Defense

One of Sergei’s biggest weakness’ this early in his career being a pure sniper is his Defence. He lacks the defending because he is always found hovering around the blue line waiting for a break out pass. Which does not always help the team when needed the most. He strives to work on this, this season as he is aware in he VHL It is much needed.

Checking

Checking as never been a priority for Kovalev as he as always been very good with his hands. Been kind of a weak player at this time Sergei gets hit more than he hits. When Kovalev does hit its not very hard or “big” as the hockey world would call it. But it is enough at times to get the puck loose. In the near future he strives to work on this so it does not feel like his opponents are being hit by a pillow! (LOL)

Fighting

Fighting is by far Kovalev’s biggest con. In his eyes he likes to be the superstar and does not like to fight as it may not him out or even injure him for future games. Thankfully in today’s hockey you do not really need to know how to fight as the refs call penalties on sneezes. With that being said Sergei has no plans on working on his skill to fight, instead he would rather score goals and have the enforcers do the dirty work.
