One thing I like to do is pick every series in either 5 or 6 regardless of how long I expect it to go - if you pick 4 or 7, there's only 8 possible points. If you pick 5 or 6, there's 11, you have more leeway.

Series goes 6 - 3

Series goes 7 - 5
