VHLM Newsletter - Sixth Edition

Recommended Posts

Hi there and welcome to another edition of the VHLM Newsletter, a series of articles that will be posted on the VHL forums every Tuesday to let you know exactly what’s going on in the league, how you can earn more points for your player and some extra tips to help you on your way!

As always, I’d like to kick things off by telling you all about the VHL Discord. A lot of you are already in this and can probably attest to how helpful it’s been, but if you aren’t in it already you should definitely give it a shot, especially if you have any questions about the league as that will be the quickest place to get them answered! Like the last VHLM Newsletter, some of this newsletter will re-tread on old ground as, with this being a VHLM newsletter, there will inevitably be new members reading this for the first time that won’t be aware of what was in previous newsletters. So what I’ll do is put a bold *NEW* next to any information specifically made for this newsletter so players who have read these before know where to go to find the new info!

S62 Mid-Season PT Special! *NEW*

To add a little spice to the middle of the regular season, we’ve added in a special bonus for any Point Task this week that will offer you an extra 10 TPE on top of the usual 6 TPE for completing it.

Go to the S62 Mid-Season PT Special thread and claim the player that you plan on doing a Point Task for (it can’t be yourself!), make sure your player of choice hasn’t already been claimed here, then post the PT in the respective forum (Media/Graphic/Podcast) and then you’re able to claim your 10 TPE bonus on top of your 6 TPE for your point task!

In the portal, the best way to claim this would be to claim your point task as usual (Update your Player -> Claim Weekly TPE -> Media Spot/Graphic/Podcast) and then add your 10 TPE as an Other claim (Claim Other TPE -> Other), and then post the link and description to the S62 Mid-Season PT Special. If you have already done it another way in the portal though, don’t worry, it will still get processed accordingly.

VHL Twitter *NEW*

The VHL has re-launched its twitter account and we’re offering members uncapped TPE for following the account and re-tweeting the advertising message for the forum. You can find more information HERE

VHLM Magazine

The VHLM Magazine is back for a second edition and is filled with even more information about the league, from breakdowns of under-the-radar stars to World Juniors analysis. Give it a read HERE and let the guys know how good a job they did with it!

New League Jobs Available

The league has made openings available for a Player Updater and a Player Store Manager for an extra way to earn some more capped TPE! If you’re interested in one of these roles, post your interest in the thread!

World Juniors *NEW*

The World Juniors has come to an end and in a hotly contested final, it was Team Canada who wound up taking home the Gold Medal with a 6-5 victory over Team Asia.

The two participants in the Gold Medal Game were as expected based off the performances in the Round Robin phase of the tournament as they were both comfortably ahead of the other three teams. Canada stormed through to the playoffs with a 7-1 record, with their only loss coming against Team USA in a 3-1 defeat, which saw a terrific performance from Team USA goalie Ismond Kingfisher to hold a team that had averaged over four goals a game to just one. In the semi-final, they came up against Team World and while Chace Trepanier did his best to give Team World the upset victory with two first period goals, they fell just short as Team Canada ended up winning 3-2. In the final game, it was a showcase for the first overall pick Leph Twinger, as he scored a first period hat-trick to send Team Canada on their way to World Juniors victory!

Team Asia suffered a few more losses than Canada in the Round Robin phase, going 5-3, but their place in the Semi Final was never in doubt. Team Asia fought their way into the Gold Medal game after defeating Team USA in the Semi Final, a team who they had already beaten twice in the Round Robin phase. While Team USA did well to fight back having gone 3-0 down after just the first period, it ultimately wasn’t enough and Team Asia were through to the final after a 5-4 victory, mainly thanks to 3 point performances from defenseman/defensewoman pairing Maxim Kovalchuk and Tzuyu.

Team World would have gone into the Bronze Medal game hoping that their effort against the eventual winners Team Canada in the Semi Final would transition over to this game against Team USA and see them bring home a medal. Unfortunately for the fan of the underdog, Team World were completely outplayed and took a heavy 6-0 loss, with Helsinki Titan forward Dan Montgomery having a huge game, recording two goals and two assists.

The one team that I have yet to mention, Team Europe, missed out on making the Semi Finals after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Team World in the Quarter Final, a disappointing result given that Team Europe had beaten Team World twice already in the group stage. Alvaro Jokinen and Lando Baxter put in solid performances, finishing joint-fifth in defenseman points during the Round Robin phase.

You can check out how the World Juniors panned out for yourself HERE

The VHLM *NEW*

There are now just 17 games left in the regular season and it’s still anybody’s game at the top of the standings! Currently the Halifax 21st are in the lead with 84 points, but they’re only five points ahead of the Las Vegas Aces, who are themselves only one point ahead of the Ottawa Lynx. Adding an element of intrigue to this battle will be how much of an impact each of these teams new additions will bring; forwards Rylan Peace and Kronos Bailey for the already free-scoring 21st, Bo Axelsson and highly promising defenseman Jesse Wilson for the Lynx and Ryan Sullivan Jr., son of the VHL Hall of Famer Ryan Sullivan, joining the Aces.

In the bottom half of the table, the Oslo Storm have kept up their very physical play, having nearly 200 hits more than every other team in the league. Kisshan Shan has been earning a lot of TPE recently and it’ll be exciting to see how much of an impact he can have for this Storm team in the playoffs. The Saskatoon Wild and the Yukon Rush occupy the last two places in the league, while the Wild haven’t really done anything to replace Dylan Nguyen and Ryuu Crimson, who were traded to the 21st earlier in the season, the Rush have been acquiring not only new players in Paris Papadakis, Kerry Hallett and Fizz, but also draft picks, as they’ve acquired a few higher up picks in the Season 63 Draft in an effort to compete next season.

On the player side of things, Karl Von Moltke is still the undisputed king of the VHLM. With 97 points in 55 games, Von Moltke is a comfortable 24 points ahead of his nearest rival, teammate Shawn Glade, and thirty points ahead of his nearest rival from an opposing team, Aces forwards Jose Gonzalez and Scott Shawinganen. Those two have good stories for their careers so far; Gonzalez started off as a projected third liner for the Aces, but after trading Von Moltke to the 21st, Gonzalez has moved up to the second line and has performed very well alongside Shawinganen, who despite joining after the S62 VHLM Draft will likely skip the S63 VHLM Draft due to having too much TPE and will likely join the VHL right away.

For the goalies, out of the full-time starters, it’s a close race between Ottawa’s Kallis Kriketers and Las Vegas’ Alexander Pepper for the best goalie this season, with Pepper currently holding a miniscule 0.001% advantage in save percentage. However the best goalie in the league regardless of starts continues to be Cole Mertz, who’s rebroken the .900% barrier.

Trivia Assistance *NEW*

For this instance of the trivia, I will ask for question number two.

2a. What is the highest point total ever achieved in a single VHLM season and who achieved it?

The highest scoring player of each VHLM season wins the Ethan Osbourne trophy. The answer to this trivia question will be in there

123b. What is the lowest point total ever from a Rookie-of-the-Year recipient?

The answer to this should be found in the page for the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy awarded to the best rookies in each VHL season.
