The actual rule is that a former GM Player can stay in the VHL until the new GM Player is in the VHL. Once the new GM player is in the VHL, the former GM must be out of the league. I would think with Ironside, it’s either he can be moved as a rental, and needs to retire after this season, or we set a new precedent and allow him to walk as FA at the end of the season. The issue with a new precedent is that what happens if a GM Player steps down with more than one season on their contract? Does the new GM need to wait before creating their own GM player?
