SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN -- The Wild season has started, and over their first thirteen games, they’ve managed to string together a respectable - but not desirable - 6-7-0 record. Today we’re going to recap each game the Wild have played and hopefully take you deeper into the Wilds’ position in the standings.

GM 1: SSK 2 @ YUK 3
Record: 0-1-0

Unfortunately for the Wild, and their players, the first game of the season was a 3-2 regulation loss to the Yukon Rush. Kronos Bailey secured the Rush a victory with a suburb performance, registering two goals in the victory while goaltender Rhett STiffiday saved 17 of the 19 Wild shots.

Rylan Peace and Chance Trepanier both scored a goal and registered an assist during sixty minutes of hockey. Rookie Piotr Jerwa recorded his first career assists with a helper on Rylan Peace’s second period tally that drew the Wild within one at the 17:24 mark of the second period.

The Wild were heavily out shot (32-19) during the game.

GM 2: LVA 1 @ SSK 4

Record: 1-1-0

The Wild recorded their first win of the season thanks to a dominating performance by the Wild’s top line. Rylan Peace recorded a hat trick and an assist, Chace Trepanier scored a goal and provided three assists, Toby Fitzgerald contributed three apples and Piotr Jerwa continued his point streak with an assist.

The Wild scored three power-play goals and killed off every penalty they took to cruise to a 4-1 victory over Brick Wahl and the early struggling Aces.

The Wild outshot the Aces 38-19.

GM 3: SSK 2 @ YUK 3

Record: 1-2-0

For the second straight game against Yukon - the Wilds’ only opponent so far this season - the club from Saskatoon suffered the same fate, a 3-2 regulation loss. Up until the third period it was looking like the Wild would be victorious thanks to two goals by Chace Trepanier, two assists by Toby Fitzgerald and Piotr Jerwa continuing his point streak with another assist.

Unfortunately, once again, Kronos Bailey put the Rush on his back and carried them through to a victory - a second victory against the Saskatoon Wild. Bailey scored a natural hat trick in the third period as the Rush defeated the Wild 3-2.

The Wild killed all three penalties they took, but failed to convert on the five power play opportunities they had; over the game the shots were relatively even, although the Wild controlled the second period with a 19-9 shot advantage. In the third, with the Rush dominating the offense, they limited the Wild to just one shot while throwing 13 of their own on net.

GM 4: YUK 2 @ SSK 1

Record: 1-3-0

Another game against Yukon, another loss to Yukon.

If there wasn’t a rivalry between these to clubs, there certainly is now.

This game was largely a goal-tending battle between Rhett Stoffiday and Kevin Weekes, as the score after the first period would be the final score of the game. Rylan Peace scored the lone Wild goal assisted by Chance Trepanier and Piotr Jerwa, who both continued a four game-point streak to start the season.

Kronos Bailey, once again, registered the game-winning goal for the Rush.

GM 5: SSK 3 @ HFX 4

Record: 1-4-0

The Wilds’ struggle to start the season could be contributed to multiple factors, but ultimately scoring depth was the most crucial aspect to the early struggles out of Saskatoon. If the Wilds’ top line was shut down, then so was their scoring. Thankfully, in this 4-3 regulation loss to Halifax, some secondary scoring finally got on the board.

In fact… it was all secondary scoring.

Burnt Toast scored a goal and registered two assists, Kip Baier scored a goal and an assist, Kyson Blake registered his first career VHLM point on his assists and - like Blake - rookie Magnus Backlund recorded his first career assist during the Wilds’ defeat.

GM 6: SSK 4 @ OTT 3

Record: 2-4-0

The Wild finally snapped a three game losing skid with a 4-3 victory over the Lynx. Prior to this game, the Wild had traded picks for Anthony Dabarno and immediately slotted him into their lineup centering the first line with Rylan Peace and Chace Trepanier as his wingers. The move proved worth it.

Rylan Peace scored his sixth of the season - and unfortunately for the VHLM’er - his last recorded goal so far on the season. Dabarno scored his first with the Wild in the second period and assisted on Chace Trepanier’s conversion in the third.

Rookie Piotr Jerwa recorded three assists during the game, Chace Trepanier scored a goal and an assist, Anthony Dabarno recorded a goal and an assist, while Kip Baier, Burnt Toast, Magnus Backlund and Rylan Peace all recorded a point.

GM 7: YUK 1 @ SSK 3

Record: 3-4-0

Finally.

A victory over the Rush was a much needed confidence boost for the Wild.

Burnt Toast continued his hot play lately with two assists, Piotr Jerwa extended his impressive point streak with an assist, Chace Trepanier recorded his sixth goal of the season, rookie Kyson Blake scored his first VHLM goal, Zippy Zaramo recorded an assist, Jordan Tonn recorded an assist and Rylan Peace recorded an assist in the Wilds’ 3-1 victory over Kronos Bailey and the Yukon Rush.

The Wild and Rush played a fairly defensive game, each only recording 16 shots on goal. Both clubs penalty kill units were flawless during the hockey game.

GM 8: HFX 1 @ SSK 0

Record: 3-5-0

Unfortunately, the Wild were shut out despite throwing 23 shots on net against Cole Mertz.

Halifax player Gene MacTavish scored the only goal of the game in the first period.

Shots were 23-16 in favor of the Wild.

GM 9: YUK 2 @ SSK 0

Record: 3-6-0

Another home game shutout.

Another loss to Yukon.

Rhett Stoffiday shut down the Wild offense with 29 saves, most of which came from the Wilds’ top offensive line.

GM 10: SSK 4 @ OTT 2

Record: 4-6-0

The Wild finally started producing goals again against - arguably - the weakest roster in the VHLM, but a win is a win after two back to back home shutouts.

Chace Trepanier scored two goals, Jordan Tonn and Kyson Blake both scored their second of the season while Rylan Peace contributed two assists, Anthony Dabarno potted a helper, as did Piotr Jerwa, Curtis Gary (his first point of the season), Burnt Toast and Magnus Backlund.

The Wild outshot the Lynx 29-22; specialty teams favored the Wild as they went 2-5 on the power play while killing off all five penalties against them.

GM 11: OTT 5 @ SSK 3

Record: 4-7-0

In a back-to-back cage match between the Lynx and the Wild, each team ended up with a victory against one another. The Wild were defeated in their eleventh game of the season in regulation by a score of 5-3.

Piotr Jerwa, continuing an impressive start to his rookie season, scored his first career VHLM goal and his tenth assist in the defeat. Rylan Peace recorded two assists, Anthony Dabarno registered a goal and assist, as did Chace Trepanier.

The Wild failed to kill off a single penalty with the Lynx going 2 for 2 on the power play, meanwhile Weekes continues to struggle in net. The Wild outshot the Lynx 26-14.

GM 12: SSK 3 @ YUK 1

Record: 5-7-0

Fuck you, Yuk- wait, uh, I mean… The Wild managed to claim a victory over Yukon on the road with two goals from Chace Trepanier and a goal from Jordan Tonn. Burnt Toast recorded three assists as did Curtis Gary. Although the lines were mixed this game, it ended up being a quality change for the Wild.

The Wild improved to 5-7-0 for the season after a rocky 1-4-0 start.

GM 13: YUK 0 @ SSK 1
Record: 6-7-0

Get shutout, bit- er, nevermind.

Kevin Weekes recorded his first shutout of the season over Kro-who Bailey, Rhett Stoffiday and the Yukon Rush.

Anthony Dabarno recorded his third goal of the season, Chace Trepanier extended his point total and Piotr Jerwa registered his eleventh assist.
