Hi everyone, and welcome to this first weekly (I hope) S65 VHL Draft Ranking. As Tagger did before my time, I'll try to present the draftees and team needs every week, up until we reach the end of the season. Then we'll try and (fail to) predict the outcome of the draft with the official mock drafts!

This draft class is pretty different from the last couple ones. While the S63 and S64 were heavily led by first-generation players, this one relies on a good mix of both first-generation players (including the 1st ranked player at the moment) and a good amount of re-creates. This doesn't mean there aren't any valuable new members in the league though. They're right there, sprinkled throughout the re-creates. Here, I present to you the top 10 first-gen players from this draft class.

Carles Puigdemont (C) - @Eudaldkp

Puidgemont not only leads all first-gen players, he also leads all re-creates in TPE. He looks like he'll be the first to pass the 200 TPE threshold at some point next week, as he is currently at 190 TPE and gains north of 10 capped TPE week in week out. The Spanish center, whose highest attributes are 80 in both passing and scoring, is currently 1st in the VHLM in goals scored with 11 and 2nd in points with 22. The way Eudaldkp is building his player and the rate at which he gains TPE both grant Puigdemont the potential of a superstar. He could start his rookie season well above 300 TPE and dangle with the 1,000 mark, if he stays active the whole time.

Joe Nixon (G) - @Bonzaijoe

And the goalie situation is on again. Like many before him, Bonzaijoe was warned about the current goalie situation and offered to change position. But, again, like many before him, he turned the offer down and went on with his initial idea. Nixon is currently 4th in TPE and is the 1st goalie on the board, but he probably won't be drafted as high as 4th, considering every VHL team has a starting goaltender set for seasons to come. He might just make it in the end though, as he's getting TPE at a crazy rate, reaching 125 TPE in only his 5th week with us. I don't know much about goalie builds, so I can't really comment on that. Plus, he only had 2 starts so far this season, so it's hard to say if he's current attribute spread is efficient but, I'm sure he'll get more starts as the season goes and he actually passes Weekes in TPE.

Viktor Kozlov (C) - @Kuch9

The giant Russian enforcer comes in at 3rd with a pretty interesting build. Kuch9 put most of his TPE in checking and it's paying off right now, as Kozlov is 2nd in the minors, and 1st among forwards, with 51 hits. Despite his lack of TPE added in both passing and scoring, Kozlov was able to score 10 points in 12 games, good for 4th on his team, as he has enough strength and puck handling to be able to control the puck for a while. Being a relative of @Sonnet, Kuch9 unwillingly got dragged in the ways of TPE whoring. He's one of the few newcomers to whip out podcasts in his first season, actually doing it more than once already (think he's at 2 or 3 podcasts, already). He's looking like he'll continue gaining from 10 to 12 capped TPE per week, making him a great enforcer, and eventually potentially a top tier power forward at the top level.

Mitch Matthews (D) - @Antone10

Matthews is the 10th ranked player overall in this draft class, the 4th defenseman and the 1st among new-gens. Despite being so high on the list in only 3 weeks in the league, Antone is surprisingly a welfare earner. Well, there's nothing bad about claiming welfare if you're also going to do a bunch of 2-TPE tasks, as well as getting your bio and rookie profile out early in your career. Matthews' strengths right now are his defensive and his checking skills, as he's building a traditionnal defensive defenseman. He was able to notch 8 points in 12 games, as well blocking 7 shots and hitting 26 opponents down. So far, it looks like Matthews might be drafted early in the 2nd round and he might be a steal if he stays as active as he's been these 3 past weeks.

Roll Fizzlebeef (C) - @TacticalHammer

A pure affiliate welfare earner, TacticalHammer never pursued a single capped TPE task that was not called welfare. While this may look bad at first, he is consistent with it and, as a sim league veteran, he brings some sort of security to his ways. Players have been successful before despite winning 6 to 8 TPE per week throughout their career, and the same could happen with Fizzlebeef (amazing name, by the way). He is actually scoring at a point-per-game rate down with the Ottawa Lynx and he might just improve from that as he and the rest of the team around gets better.

Nico Sulerzyski (LW) - @Brolaski

Sulerzyski opens the 2nd half of this top 10, as his 77 TPE is good enough to put him at 12th in the overall rankings. His build is pretty spread out, with his best attribute being a 68 in Scoring. His scoring build hasn't translated too well on the ice though, as his limited icetime hinders his scoring chances. Playing on Las Vegas' 3rd line, Sulerzyski was only able to score 1 goal in 12 games this season. Hopefully, this doesn't lowers Brolaski's motivation, as he was a solid 6-8 capped TPE earner until this point. Maybe a trade to another team would boost his confidence and help him get back on the right track?

Jack Lynch (RW) - @xsjack

xsjack is consistently adding from 5 to 8 capped TPE to his player weekly, making him a consistent welfare earner. He is building his player as more of a playmaker, which is actually pretty rare in the VHLM these days. His build seems efficient, as Lynch amassed 4 goals and 3 assists so far this season, playing for the solid Ottawa Lynx. If he can keep his current rate up, he might get drafted in the 2nd round and become a great value piece for contending teams in the future.

Elasmobranch Fish (D) - @Sharkstrong

The Fish that didn't know how to skate is taking the league by storm. The second Spanish skater in these rankings (?!), counts on a combination of high speed and high defense to do his job well. Sharkstrong has only been here for 2 weeks, but he capped his TPE gains and got his rookie profile out in his first week, putting his player safely at 73 TPE. Sharkstrong is another new VHL member who's actually a simleague veteran, which makes him a known entity and brings some level of security with him. You know what amount of TPE you get when you draft Fish.

Don Draper (RW) - @Infernal

Coming straight out of the Mad Men universe (another one?), Draper has been somewhat silent this year in the VHLM. Despite using most of his TPE to take his scoring abilities up, he only managed to score a single goal (and no assist) in 12 games. Infernal has been doing graphics every week, but lacks the side 2-TPE tasks to catch up on the players ahead of him in the rankings. If he could add press conference questions or VHL.com articles to his weekly gains, he'd turn Draper into a better player and everyone would win.

Dick Rash (RW) - @nick_716

We haven't been hit by too many silly names so far this season (looks back up at Fizzlebeef and Elasmobranch), but this one is one for the ages. Rash hasn't committed to the VHLM too long ago, but he's been making most of his oppotunities so far. He's another rare pass-first type of player, and that let him get 5 points in 12 games. When it comes to nick_716's TPE gaining rate, we only have two weeks to look at, but they are pleasing to look at. Last week, he was able to get as much as 8 capped TPE. In only his second week with us, he switched his welfare style and wrote us a media spot. He is a guy to look out for in the next couple of weeks.
