A quick update for you all today. No punishments or anything coming from it but its something @Quik and I wanted to address. Officially tampering; that is trying to lure players away from their current teams and to your own, has always been illegal in the VHL. However there's never really been officially worded rules regarding it or any consistency regarding punishment for it. That is why the following clarification is being made:

Quote

The act of tampering, which is prohibited by the VHL, is defined as any member of a VHL team making direct, or indirect, contact in order to entice, or persuade, or attempt to entice, or persuade a member under contract with another VHL team to enter into negotiations with, or request a trade to, a team that they are not currently under contract with.

The punishment for tampering is decided upon by the VHL Commissioners, and may include sanctions against offering Free Agent contracts to the player(s) in question, sanctions against offering any Free Agent contracts in upcoming Free Agency periods, and/or draft pick forfeiture.

That sounds a little legal but it gets the point across. Basically, you can chat with other members about your teams all you want, that's fine. But do not, either publicly or privately, try to persuade other members into joining your teams. This goes double for GM's but it applies to regular members as well. We will be policing tampering claims and we will be punishing for them if they appear severe enough. This is, of course, up to our discretion so not all claims will receive punishment but the option is officially out there.

Thank You,

@Commissioner

Also, just a note: if a claim includes a team with a Commissioner on it, that commissioner will not be involved in the final verdict, regarding punishment, and a stand in may be used to help decide what punishment may, or may not, be handed out.

I once tried to get K Louth to Seattle but was told tampering only applies to GM's.

It’s the effort that we greatly appreciate. Thank you for your service!

Which is why we wanted to now make it clear that it’ll count for anyone so that GM’s can’t send their players to break the rules instead of them; not that it’s what happened. Been kinda a grey area for awhile that some people complained about it and others didn’t.

So just to clarify... this doesn't including free agents?

Correct. Once discussion opens with free agents that’s when teams are free to talk with them about signing.
