Mysterious Pepper

The VHL's 64th annual Continental Cup tournament is about to begin, and for the Helsinki Titans, it looks like it will be without their MVP this season, goaltender Alexander Pepper. In a shocking announcement, the league has announced that, under the Keaton Louth rule, both the Titans, and the soon to be relocated Quebec Meute, will have to sit their starters for games in the playoffs. While that is the official ruling, there are murmurs out of Finland that, at least with the Titans situation, things may not be so cut and dry.

Prior to the team's final game, HSK G was set to start the team's 72nd game, making his required 8th start of the season. Once the puck was dropped however, General Manager/Head Coach Matt Bailey was surprised to see Pepper between the pipes. With him being there for the initial face-off, there was nothing he could do to change his team's fate, so he left the star in net. Here's where things get weird: making his 65th start, the Las Vegas native put his Goals-Against-Average in harms way, as he was looking to pass Tristan Iseult and finish in the top 3 for GAA this season. Many feel that the real reason he is being suspended from starting this game is that he may have put money on the game, breaking the league's gambling rules. It is doubtful the full story will ever come out, but the fact is the Titans will face the daunting task of being shorthanded against the Riga Reign, the favourites of many to win the Continental Cup.
