Top 5 VHLM Puck Magnets

As the minor league has almost reached the halfway point of the season, the time has come to look at the players that have racked up the most marks and bruises in the season so far. Either intentionally or entirely by accident, these players have been a major help to their goaltender, taking upon themselves to ease their burden of shots.

1. Charlie Paddywagon - 95 shots blocked (Las Vegas Aces)  @DMaximus

Starting off our list is an impressive physical specimen by the name of Charlie Paddywagon. The youngest son of a New York cop and most recent in a long lineage of Irish law enforcement, Paddywagon is not only a big strong defender, but has a terrific sense for the game and hockey IQ. He has proven this with his uncanny ability to get in the way of shots, as proven with his league-leading 95 shots blocked.

2. Codrick Past – 91 shots blocked (Ottawa Lynx)  @Kylrad

Coming in 2nd on this list is Codrick Past, with 91 shots blocked. One of only a few Brits in the VHLM, Past is one of the best 2 way defensemen in the league, steadily maintaining over a goal per game well passed the halfway point of the season. Out of his 61 points, Past has garnered 52 assists, as well as a very solid +18 rating.

3. Rusty Shackleford - 86 shots blocked (Saskatoon Wild) @K1NG LINUS

Player number 3 on this list is Arlington’s own Rusty Shackleford. At 86 shots blocked, Shackleford is no defensive slouch. However, pucks are not the only thing drawn to him, as he has dished out 149 hits already this season and seen plenty of punches thrown his way in a few fights this year as well.

4. Basaraba Moose – 84 shots blocked (Halifax 21st) @Toasty

Tied for fourth is Basaraba Moose, an actual moose of a man. Just barely ahead of Past in points among defensemen with 63, Moose is second out of all defensemen in points in the league at the moment. He also has an absurd 166 points so far as well this season. His size, strength, and tremendous defensive ability have been huge assets for Moose and for Halifax. He has undoubtedly been a big part of Halifax having the lowest goals allowed and best goal differentials out of all teams in the league.

4. Jerry Garcia – 84 shots blocked (Houston Bulls) @GustavMattias

The second half of the fourth place tie is Jerry Garcia, who will be joining Paddywagon and Shackleford on team USA in the upcoming World Junior Cup. Garcia’s defensive output is nothing to scoff at, with 169 hits in addition to his tremendous shot block total. His high PIM total of 118 also proves that he is no stranger to violence, and a sign that he is a true warrior willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win.

This concludes the top 5 puck magnets of the VHLM. The players mentioned above are not the only ones to lay their bodies on the line for their team, but they are certainly some of the most prolific at getting in the way of the puck.
