Inconsistency Overshadows Solid Start

Trevor Van Lagen’s first week of his rookie VHLM hockey season is in the books. It was a wild first week for both Van Lagen and his Halifax teammates.  Off to a 6-3-1  start, Halifax looks like a dark horse contender early in the season.  A dynamic offence let down by some shoddy team defence, Halifax is looking to clean up some areas of their game as they push the upper echelon of teams.

Van Lagen did his part to contribute to the inconsistency of his team. His overall line of 4 goals, 5 assists, 9 points, and -5 plus/minus rating in 10 games is a solid production line for a rookie, however, when you split his stats it becomes a tale to two stories.

He broke out of the gates with a stat line of 3-3-6-(+3). His next seven games were a paltry 1-2-3-(-8).  He’s had both a three game goal streak and a four game goalless streak.  Take out his worst two games (0-0-0-(-9)) and you’re left with a stat line of 4-5-9-(+4) in 8 games.

So while he has some areas to clean up in his game, and some awful games have clouded his overall stat line, Van Lagen has put together a solid start to his rookie season.
