VHLM Newsletter - 31st Edition

Recommended Posts

Just over halfway through the season, and some teams are hitting the 40 game mark. Ottawa leagues the lead but Philadelphia is only 5 points behind them with a lot of games left. On the other side of things, Houston has only won 2 games and Yukon with only 5. Another team who is struggling is Vegas, who has only 9 wins so far in the season. All 3 of these teams have struggled quite a bit so far and are hoping for some more success as the second half of the season begins. It will be interesting to see how the standings change or stay the same as the season winds down to an end. As always, this edition of the VHLM Newsletter will contain:

1) Uncapped TPE OpportunitiesAny time there's a one-off or once-a-season point task available to enter, you'll find out about it in the early headlines of the article.

2) League RecapThe middle of the Newsletter is generally based around keeping you up to speed with what's going on around the league, be that changes to how the league works, new features or how the current VHLM season is progressing.

3) TPE Earning GuideThe bottom section of the Newsletter follows the same format each week. There, you will be provided with the links you need to get to the regular TPE earning activities.

4) Trivia Help: To help you guys learn how to navigate the site, the very bottom of the newsletter will contain some hints on where to find answers for each week's trivia questions! This can be turned in every week for 2 capped TPE, and will also be worth some extra uncapped TPE in the offseason!

Before we start with anything I would like to remind you about the Official VHL Discord ServerThe discord is a great place for you to connect with other members of the site and get help with anything you need! I would highly recommend joining and being apart of the community there. Like the last VHLM Newsletter, some of this newsletter will re-tread on the old ground as, with this being a VHLM newsletter, there will inevitably be new members reading this for the first time that won’t be aware of what was in previous newsletters. So what I’ll do is put a bold *NEW* next to any information specifically made for this newsletter so players who have read these before knowing where to go to find the new info!

1) Uncapped TPE Opportunities

Weekly Reddit Threads

No new weekly Reddit thread this week, but make sure to check out the thread and keep an eye out for future Reddit threads by clicking the link here.

Recruit a Friend TPE

Probably the best way to earn some uncapped TPE is to recruit a friend! You can receive some hefty uncapped TPE bonuses by recruiting a friend and helping them make a player! You can earn up to 15 Uncapped TPE from a single recruitment! For more information, click this link.

Practice Facility

Every week, players in the VHLM are granted 2 free TPE every week for simply posting in the practice facility thread. If you haven't already, go post your player name and "+2" here.

Career PT - Player Biography

Once per career, you can write a biography about your player for a whopping TEN uncapped TPE! The biography must be at least 1000 words in length while detailing the history of your player's life, starting off the ice and eventually working up toward it. A more specific rubric can be found on the page here. When claiming the TPE for this task, make sure you submit it under via portal as "Other" --> "Biography"

Career PT - Rookie Profile

Once per career, you can write a rookie profile that specifically details your player's strengths and weaknesses on the ice. Think of this like a scouting report, where you're telling GMs what to expect out of your player. A more detailed rubric for the rookie profile can be found on this page. This report must be at least 500 words in length, and focus only on your player's on-ice attributes. When turning this task in, be sure to submit it under "Other" --> "Rookie Profile"

Practice Facility

Every week, players in the VHLM are granted 2 free TPE every week for simply posting in the practice facility thread. If you haven't already, go post your player name and "+2" here.

The VHL Fantasy Zone

Every week, players are given the chance to guess the results of upcoming VHL games. This comes in two different forms- the weekly Pick 'Em's (which are worth 2 uncapped TPE for getting all of them correct), and the weekly Score Prediction (which is worth 3 uncapped TPE for getting correct). Even if you don't get it right, it's worth a shot to take a look at the games and give it your best guess! If you want, you can even cheat and copy the guesses of a member that's already posted. These will be posted in this subforum every week.

Player Store- First Generation Doubles Week

If you've got the money (1.5m in player store cash, the amount of every VHLM contract) you can purchase a doubles week if you're on your first player. For those who haven't had one before, a doubles week allows you to claim an extra 6 uncapped TPE if you submit a media spot, graphic, or podcast!

The VHLM Fantasy Zone

The VHL Fantasy Zone's younger brother allows you to earn even more uncapped TPE for guessing the correct winners and scores. However, these predictions are only available to players within the VHLM, so make use of them while you can! The VHLM Fantasy Zone differs in its TPE rewards, in that the weekly Pick 'Em's are only worth 2 uncapped TPE, but guessing the correct score is worth 4! These will be posted in this subforum every week.

The First Generation Bonus

As a thank you to the newer members for sticking around and participating in the league, we're offering 10 free uncapped TPE for your first player, once they cross the 100 TPE milestone! If you've passed that mark, or are about to pass that mark, make a post in this thread and use it to submit an update. To make the job of the updates easier, please select "Other" when applying the update and fill out the box as seen below:

2) League Recap

With teams approaching 40 or already at 40 games played, let's take a quik look at 5 of the more interesting games played recently in the VHLM.

Game #168. :hfx: Halifax 21st (8 - 4) :hou: Houston Bulls

Halifax put up double the amount of goals Houston did in this game to put up a total of 8 for their side. Houston did put up quite a fight though, scoring 4 goals on a mere 19 shots. Halifax had 4 players with 3 points each and 2 with 4 points to their name. Emil Passerelli was one of those players who put up 4 points. His 4, were ALL goals getting him a hattrick +1. On Houston, Koda Adok lead them with 2 goals, an assist, for 3 points. Neither goaltender had a great game. Colin Conklin failed to get his first win of the season and let in 8 on 46 shots. Michael Johnson let in 4 on 19 shots and won the game with his 0.789 SV%.

Game #172. :veg: Las Vegas Aces (2 - 6) :phi:Philadelphia Reapers

Kyle Sabertooth lead his Philadelphia Reapers with 4 goals, one assist, for 5 points to help them secure this blowout victory against the Las Vegas Aces. Philadelphia threw 51 shots Virgil Ligriv, who managed to save 45 of them. On the Other side, Kolur Bjoernsson saved 14 of the 16 tests he faced during the game and managed to secure the victory for the Reapers. Vegas did not have a good time and they were completely dominated by the Reapers offense and stood no chance against them.

Game #204.:veg: Las Vegas Aces (1 - 7) :ssk: Saskatoon Wild

The Saskatoon Wild managed to put 7 behind Virgil Ligriv on their 30 shots to secure their victory. Tormund GiantsBane lead his team with 4 assists and John Perdue and Titus LaClass helped him secure the victory with 3 points each of their own. Vegas, on the other hand, couldn't find any success as Benson Van Roosen, Emir Hawley, and Xander Hawley were the only Aces who managed to put up a point.

Game #208. :hou: Houston Bulls (1 - 😎 :ott: Ottawa Lynx

The Ottawa Lynx completely destroyed the Houston Bulls in this game. Colin Conklin was unable to stand strong against the 36 shots he faced from Ottawa. Pekka Pouta on the other hand only let in one out of the 19 shots he faced during this game. Ottawa's Don Draper scored a hattrick and an assist to tally 4 points on the night. He also had offensive assistance from Jordan Joshua Tonn and Pascal Batz who put up 3 points each. Ottawa players had a great night with a lot of their roster putting up a point or two each. The same can't be said for Colin Conklin and his Houston Bulls though.

Game #213. :ssk: Saskatoon Wild (5 -6) :hfx: Halifax 21st

This was a close matchup that lead to an overtime victory by the Halifax "Please Change Our Team Name" 21st. Aj Axelsen, Blake Gaudette, and Guy LeGrande each had 3 points to their name. Along with other depth scoring, they were able to defeat Brian Strong, who also had a 3 point night, and his Saskatoon Wild team in overtime. Michael Johnson of the Halifax 21st was pulled 17 and a half minutes into the game after he let in 3 goals on a mere 3 shots. He was then replaced with Thorvald Gunnarsson who was able to stand strong and only let in 2 goals from 28 shots to help Halifax secure this victory. Juan Jaundice of Saskatoon managed to stop 27 of the 33 shots he faced and wishes he was able to save that final shot in overtime, which lead to their loss.

Stars of the Week

Now, let's have a look at my stars of the week! In this segment, I will be stating who I believe were the First, Second, and Third Stars in the league this past week.

★ First Star ★

Blake Gaudette

:hfx: | LW | @Gaudette

39GP 28G 34A 62P

Blake Gaudette exploded recently and now sits on top of the league with goals and is second in points, only 4 off the league lead of 66 held by Rocky LaGarza. Blake has definitely been Halifax's best player this season and they are glad he is there with them as they start to make a push towards securing a playoff spot. He is looking to take the top spot from Rocky LaGarza, but it will be tough as Rocky has been able to secure his league-leading position all season so far. Blake is just getting started in the league though. and It'll be exciting to see how Malmo's prospect finishes this season with Halifax.

★ Second Star ★

Don Draper

:ott: | RW | @Infernal

40GP 27G 31A 58P

Don Draper has shown he is a top player in the VHLM this past week as he holds the #2 spot in the league for goals scored, just 1 behind leader Blake Gaudette. Draper is one of Ottawa's top players and one of the reasons they have been so successful and dominate so far and hold the league lead. Ottawa relies heavily on Draper to assist their other star players and he has been able to provide the support they need of him. One of Vancouver's top prospects, he looks to be a great player who can make an impact.

★ Third Star ★

Hulk Hogan

:mis: | D | @HulkHogan

40GP 9G 48A 57P

Hulk Hogan leads all defenseman in points with 57 and all players in assists with 48. He is definitely the best player for Mississauga right now as they have struggled so far in their inaugural season in the VHLM. Hulk has been very dominate so far and has been able to help Mississauga not only offensively, but defensively as well. He is an impact player and I hope to see more of this from him in the near future.

4) Trivia Help

1. Which VHL member has the most Continental Cups?

This is a very straightforward trivia question. You can check out the spreadsheet on this page and find the answer VERY easily by just switching spreadsheet tabs to "Cups, by member".

2. Which team held/holds the longest gold medal streak at the World Cup?

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a spreadsheet or anything else that would make this easy to solve. The best method I found was to check out this section of the forums and count it out.

That concludes the 31st edition of the VHLM Newsletter! If you feel like there is something I can improve or change, let me know! See you next week.
