S69 Calgary Wranglers Draft [1/2]

Last season the league wrote of the Wranglers after they shed cap and star power at the deadline in a re-tooling move. The team then went on to be a better team than they were before and also beat the Vancouver Wolves to go on to the North American Final in the VHL Playoffs. Although Seattle had their miracle run to the Championship win, our team looked pretty good for a re-tooling team. With the plethora of picks in this seasons VHL entry draft the Wranglers added some new young talent and we would like to introduce you to that talent now.

1.5 RJ Jubis

RJ was the pick I knew I was going to make right as soon as we started talking. Although he was ninth best in the draft pre-rankings he just seemed to be a good fit and eager to join Calgary. It also helped that our new winger is a Bruins fan. I debated back and forth between Jubis and Okada before talking to them but Okada being busy at the time I really didn't get a chance to talk to him pre-draft so I jumped at Jubis who seemed all in an looks to be one of the future first line anchors in Calgary. It is also really nice to have someone to talk hockey with that is not a Sens fan, lol, I kid.

1.9 Hiroshi Okada

So Okada was the logical choice for me at fifth pick based solely on training hours but I was unsure if he had some friends he wanted to play with and I went with a sure bet at fifth. Then the unthinkable happens and I wind up with Okada at ninth pick, OMG, almost shit myself here. I mean how does this happen? I researched and consulted my co-GM team and nobody could figure it out so we took a chance on a guy we hadn't even spoken to and then we figured out why he slid in the draft... Because the GMs picking in those slots are fucking stupid. What a great addition to the locker room so far. This is going to wind up a steal in this draft for sure and I can't wait to see what this guy does his rookie season.

1.11 Kris RIce

So my original plan was to grab Rice at pick nine but that fell through a bit when Okada fell in the draft. The reason I wanted Rice so bad at nine? Well there are a lack of playmakers on the Wranglers, or at least there was until just recently with trades and this draft and a re-roll from a defender. I did my research, I read the draft article as well where Rice suggested he'd be a great fit in Calgary and he seemed very open to the idea of it, this was a real no-brainer pick for us and I just had to cross my fingers when I took Okada but thankfully it worked out. Getting these three in the first round was a dream for me when looking at my rankings pre-draft I feel I did well in the draft and that Calgary's future is as bright as it ever has been.

3.33 Kim Jong Un

I had banked on Gaudette being active with this pick that was kind of a shot in the dark. So far this looks like it could easily be the steal of the draft. A player that has logged a lot of training hours since the draft and is really active in the locker room. I think Kim Jong Un could easily be playing in Calgary next season. Everyone on my team seems to be getting along really well and happy with their situation and I feel like things couldn't be going better. Wish you all a good day and can't wait to see what all these young guys do this coming season.

Review:  Good, strong article.  It was cool to get some insight as to why certain players were picked when they were and what the opportunity cost might have been in terms of players not available later.  Not as crazy about calling out other GMs as "stupid' just because they didn't value everyone in the same way as Calgary.
