D. Maximus responds to Bud Knight

In a recent interview following a lifeless 5-1 loss at Mississauga, Reaper star Bud Knight ( @Dilly Dilly )  blasted the Reaper organization for not providing him with enough surrounding talent and for not giving him more ice time, (https://vhlforum.com/topic/73239-bud-knight-is-unhappy )

Reaper GM Domini Maximus responded to Knight’s comments today. “I know he was just venting after a bad loss, but he needs to realize that the proper way to vent is not to go to the media and say things you might regret later. This isn’t Hollywood where any press is good press.” Maximus said in an apparent dig at Bud Knight’s recent celebrity due to a successful television ad campaign. “Causing distractions that take the team’s focus away from our only goal, which is winning a championship, does not help anyone, including Bud.”

Maximus then addressed Bud Knight’s complaints directly, “First off, he’s the offensive leader in ice time for the Reapers. I’ve never heard of someone who has the most ice time on the team complain about not having enough ice time. Maybe he needs to cut down on the Bud Lights he’s drinking before looking at the stats. Second, I think we have a talented group of players on this roster. Talented enough to win it all. Knight should spend some time with his teammates rather than shining his armor or whatever he does in the locker room. Maybe then he’d realize teamwork is essential to winning.”

Recent reports of the Reaper organization scouting a hot prospect and possible Bud Knight replacement, Bud Knight Platinum, may have contributed to Knight’s outburst. Bud Knight Platinum has been promoted more than Bud Knight in recent advertisements. On top of that, there’s whispers in hockey circles that Platinum could be a better player than Bud Knight. When asked, Maximus brushed concerns aside “Of course we’re looking at any and all prospects. Bud Knight Platinum is definitely a huge prospect and a hot commodity. We’d love for him to join the Reaper franchise. But I don’t think us looking at a prospect should upset our current roster. If it does, maybe they need to focus on their game rather than staring in the mirror.”

Maximus may have realized that she was unloading a little too much on her star player because her tone and content changed as she began to speak about the importance of Knight. “He’s a great player and he’s extremely important to this franchise. When he’s on the top of his game, he’s practically unstoppable. He has a chance to go down as the greatest Reaper in the team’s history. When we win the cup this season, Knight will be the first to hoist it in the air.”

There’s some evidence that Maximus took some of the criticism from Knight to heart. The Reapers rolled out some new lines in the past couple of games and Knight has seen an increase in ice time. His teammates also appear to have taken notice. The Reapers have been playing with a renewed focus and purpose. Maybe Knight’s outburst to the media accomplished exactly what he intended it to.
