Once again we are taken into the mid-first round of the S70 VHL Entry Draft with Lewis Dawson. Like many of the prospects at this range, Lewis is a highly skilled prospect who had a rather difficult season with the Mexico City Kings as he put up 30 points in 72 games. After Lahtinen, both Magnum and Dawson slot in as the top ranked centers in the draft, but the point production discrepancy is very evident. Dawson, much like Magnum, puts up question marks as to whether he can make the step to the VHL and be productive. Magnum had a high hit total to lean on where really all you can lean on is the depth of his team. Mexico City had both Shush Nyko and Jaxon Walker puting up points and actually put Mexico City in 3rd place. We believe that Dawson will find his way, he is just developing his secondary center skills like faceoffs and strength before his skating and stickwork become elite. This is a player that will definitely take some time; could use some extra time in the minors but will be a good VHL player. This is a player that could be a depth piece and could end up developing into more - just don't expect it right out of the gate. We put this prospect as a mid-to-late first round pick.
