The Yukon Rush have had a flurry of waiver signings as of late. They have added a few forwards and defensemen to their roster. I want to breakdown what I have seen from these players in the short period of time they have been with the team. I will be talking about their training, their activity and how they are in the teams locker room.

Mickey Dickson

Yukon’s first signing was Right Winger Mickey Dickson. The shifty winger weighing in at 180 pounds and standing 5 foot 10 inches caught Yukon’s eye right away. He’s an electric winger who uses his speed and agility to weave his way through traffic and create scoring chances.

Training - Dickson has a lot of work to do to be able to compete at the level required to remain in the VHLM. He has been to the practice facility a few times but will need step up the training in order to remain on the top line with the Rush. I have no doubt that he will find his stride soon enough and get into a set training schedule.

Activity - Activity hasn’t been an issue yet. Real life comes first and we all understand that. Activity will improve once the season begins next week.

Locker Room - Dickson gets along well with his fellow teammates in the locker room. He is one of our more quiet players but is liked enough to have gained a few votes for the recent captaincy vote.

Gary Neal

Yukon’s next signing was multi-sport athlete Gary Neal. He plays in both the EFL as well as the VHLM now. Neal is 6 foot 8 inches tall and weighs in at 225 pounds. This monster of a man is going to be slotting in on the left wing for the Rush. He’s the size of a football player but moves around the ice as if he’s played hockey his whole life.

Training - Being that Neal is a multi sport athlete a lot of the training he already does for EFL he can transfer over to his training as a member of the VHL. This is extremely advantageous as he can train for both sports while doing the same amount of work. He’s always around the practice facility but does the extra work to continue to work on his skills.

Activity - Activity is no issue with Neal. He’s always around and isn’t afraid to ask questions when he needs advice about hockey.

Locker Room - Gary Neal is a great locker room presence. He is always in the room talking shop with his team mates. He is constantly trying to convince other members of the team to try become multi sport athletes as well. His popularity in the short time he’s been there has grown tremendously and has earned him a spot as an alternate captain for the Rush in this upcoming season.

Zyrok12

Zyrok12 was the first Defensemen to sign with the Rush. He is a young up and comer who is a student of the game. Zyrok12 is 6 foot 1 inch tall and weighs 180lbs. He is a very mobile offensive Defensemen and looks to play a big role this season for the Rush as their number 1 Dman.

Training - Work, work and work some more. Zyrok12 is always looking to train every chance he gets. He completed all of his training last week and was chomping at the bit to do more. The coaching staff has had to remind him not to overdue it as they want a fresh Zyrok12 at the start of the season. The Rush do love how hard he works to get better!

Activity - Zyrok12 is a very active member of the team. When he isn’t training he is working closely with the GM, AGM and the coaching staff to learn every intangible of the game. He is a very smart player and is picking up on things very quickly and that has the Rush excited.

Locker Room - A steady presence in the locker room everyday. He is a favourite amongst his peers and was recently voted as the Captain of the Rush for the upcoming season. This is an incredible honour for any player and the organization is confident that Zyrok12 will lead this team during the current rebuilding phase that the Rush are in.

Jason Goesen

Jason Goesen is the most recent signing by the Yukon Rush. Goesen is the definition of mean. He’s a big bodied shutdown Defensemen that has a nasty mean streak. Another member of the Rush team standing at 6 feet 8 inches and weighing at 225 pounds. He isn’t the most mobile but his positioning and physicality are what make him the most effective.

Training - He has only been with the team a short time but in that time his training has been steady. He’s doing enough to keep in shape but could definitely pick it up a notch if he wants to become an elite shutdown Defensemen in this league.

Activity - It’s still very early to tell but he has been active up to date. I’d love to see Goesen do a little bit more and take more initiative to learn the intangibles of the game but I think with a little bit of patience and working closely with Goesen the Rush can have him up to par in no time.

Locker Room - He is still very fresh to this team and hasn’t really had much of a chance to build relationships with his teammates. It’ll take some time to warm up and get comfortable with everyone. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later as the season draws near.

The Rush have made a few nice waiver signings this offseason but they are still in the market for a one two punch down the middle. Centres are hard to come by as of late but the Management team will be doing their due diligence to find the right player for the job.

Review:

Wonderful idea for a Media Spot. I love the format; with the overview and the 3 categories (training, activity, and lockeroom). Looks like Yukon is setting up for big things this season. Nicely done grammatically and well presented. The one thing that I'll always say to Media Spot writers is to just add a picture somewhere. It just makes the presentation look more sharp. But great read and great effort in this! Well done @Krice13
